RE: 2102 FAI/F3A EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
it is Manfred Greves "Bat- style" model ! Retracts and all those sharkfin things. Absolutely constant speed and very quiet too. Who's making a list of equipment for us to see ? [:D]

RE: Temperature of Axi 5325/24 F3A
On my 5325 24 driving a 20x13 APC, measured from behind through vent holes, directly into the windings, after a P11 in very windy conditions, I have measured repeatedly 65- 68 degree of celsius. I consider this to be a little too high for my taste. I think I have more than 200 flights on the setup and I also think that I have lost some power compared to new. The same measurements on my Pletty 30 09 EVO II, with a PT 20x13, reads 41 degree Celsius. Measurements with laser heat gun ....

Hi there 2 Sunny...I appreciate your efforts concerning numbers with the 30 09 since I'm going to operate one very soon. I will be using a Mejzlic 20x12 W. 20x13 seems too hot for my liking. The final temperature of motor must be very high ? Please keep posting observations [;)]

RE: ZN Line Xigris
Hi Morten Here's a couple of 2 cents ... The top wing should be 0 or ½ to 1 degree positive incidence for at least two different reasons! Clearly the topwing, when flying knifeedge, wants to "go strait" in the air causing the whole Cigris to go to canopy. Also adding will be the drag of the top wing and since theres an arm to the CG of the still knife edge flying airplane the momentum will turn the whole ship to canopy. When flying level the topwing with the said incidence of minus 0,5 will force the airplane down and you will need some elevator trim to maintain level flight. Why ? Because the topwing is experiencing the full propwash. My guess will be that you need all the area ( and you know I think it is too small ) to create lift and the fact that you need elevator trim indicates that the airplane is relatively heavy ( I do not know the weight ) flying on 0,5 degree on the main wing. I'd like to hear what you find out ....

....from the video I specially apreciate the footage showing the engineer walking along the leading edge with a F3A stickplane in his hand, and more than once, comparing the two. His mind must be filled with thoughts like : " ..ah those darn guys from production ! They have totally screwed up my brilliant work, even though I made a small model to build from "

ahem ....yup, but I'm just having a very hard time understanding how in the ( F3A ) World :-), 25 judges, at the same time, and apparently for numerous manuevers, can miss 15 degrees deviation from level wings ? Or is it just me .......... :-)

RE: 99+ Amps drawn by my Hacker C50-14XL
.....I have had a similar experience ! Apparently, I had been overloading my motor "with too much propeller", 20x15 APC on a 13 windings, and thus causing the magnets to loose magnetism over time. Hence, i drew 100 + amps from the batteries and the controller cut during flights. Actually "toasted" a couple of cells on that account besides the motor.

RE: Hacker C50-12XL
.......14 days and no expert opinion ? Okay I'm not an expert but I have a "13" Hacker and a "12" might just be operating too small props for 2x2 planes. Problem being, that the efficiency goes down with the diameter of the propeller so you will need more amps from your batteries. Anyway, nooobody uses a 12 wind motor so my advise will be to choose a 13 or 14 wind ...

RE: YS 160 Piston Damage
it is a well known case on dz's. Caused by either violent backfire or use of a very powerfull starter with too much fuel in the cylinder. Look at the carbon- builds around the edges....It is a relative old mishap and the motor can run for some time before the power fails. The piston, by the way, shows signs of excessive wear on the lower parts indicating that piston as well as liner and ring needs replacemant. And I'm not with YS :-)

RE: Hyperion Lipo experience?
sorry for the slow reply. I've just laid my hands on two sets of the CX5350 for the coming season so I have no experience with the Hyperions CX 5350 as of yet. Last year, I tried Hyperions VX 5000 ( heavy, but durable, 25 C cells ) and I know others that are using FP 5350 with good results, i.e. more than 150 flights ! Hyperion comes from this "source" http://www.hyperion-eu.com/howtobuy/ All the best

RE: F09 a killer or not
wait till you find out what F11 looks like ! Now there's a killer ! In the meantime, it is quite funny that P09 and F09 differs so much. K factor going from 60 to 70 ! As i recall there's 3 loops and half-loops with rolls in them and one of those is a half loop with 2 full rolls in opposite direction : Of course you need to setup a more agile plane to fly these manouvers...And practice practice etc etc [;)]

RE: Finding and aliging fuse centerline
Buy a cheap laser that sends out a horisontal line ! Align the fuselage like in the picture of my Integral: Note that 1,5 degree downthrust on motor needs to be taken into consideration. Then the laser will tell you what line your stabilizers should follow ....And the incidence of your wing can also be found according to the horizontal line. 0,25 degree positive incidence should be okay for starting point and means that your wing should follow a line there is 2,5 mm lower pr 573 mm than tha horizontal line. Some kits actually have lines showing the horizontal line from the stabilizers, but I find it difficult to align after those very short marks in the tail, hence this more accurate way. Hope it helps [:)]

RE: Battery future ?
for nordic readers : http://ing.dk/artikel/62962?highlight=Li+ion+batterier%2Cnanoteknologi For others and in short: New Li Ion battery developed and patented by american scientists. Should be recharged in 6 minutes and can hold up to 10 times the capacity and should be able to handle 20000 cycles. We only have to wait a couple of years .....And of course we have to invent a very cheap way of producing the needed Nano crystals Think automobiles....

RE: YS Front Bearing Oil Seal
I have never done it that way .....But provided you can heat the whole case so the front bearing is loose in the house, it is a loose fit on the cranksahft, but not above 120- 150 Celsius !! ( And can the regulator stand these temperatures ? ) and provided you can get a tool in from the front and destroy/ pull out the seal it can be done. The seal can be inserted from the front with a little oil so the edges do not suffer.....Take the motor apart it is much better. Have fun

RE: 14 MZ or 12 MZ for F3A
well well it was not my intend to offend [:)] I should have frased it as a qustion so here goes ! : I operate the 9z and I have been disappointed in the fact that the trimmers on this radio cannot be assigned to adjust the percentages of two servos mixed together. This would be helpfull setting up the correct level of for instance elevator to rudder mixing doing knifeedge or differentiation of ailerons or speedflaps on a sailplane ( The 9z can do this in "glider" model, but not "motor model" ) and you could do this while airborne. Are the 14 and the 12 the same radios when it comes to these features ?

RE: Dual RX Battery & Switch
Things to consider ...When we are putting more receivers and more batteries and more swithes and more servos up in the air we are introducing more possible failures. In my club there's a few electronic guys flying F5B and 10 cells racing gliders with big folding props in the nose and 100 amps flowing through the esc's and they have long ago designed their own heat sink circuits for the rx and servos. Us mortal F3A guys have adopted the system because it generates the best performance regarding instant supply of electrons without huge drops in voltage known from Nimh cells. For my Integral, which was the first all digital servo ship for me, I started with 4 2500 AA NIMH cells and did some testing on the table and I was surprised to see the voltage could easily go to 4 volts with all 5 digitals connected and operating under a little stress from my hand. Absolutely not good enough. The circuit is based on the regulator from Micrel, MIC29502WT and it is usually used in harddrives or other constant voltage apparatus and I have put a picture of the setup in my Integral. 2 lipo's 1300 mAh provides plenty mileage for a flying day. Note the big cooling fin, that is the required size fin whenever the regulator delivers up to 5 amps and 5,1 volts !!!! Without the fin to dissipate heat to, theres a risk the heat will destroy the regulator

RE: What simulator to practice pattern flying?
I have a highly costumized CAP 232 in my RealFlight G2 which I use for training. The model is based on the downloaded, from realflights homepage G2 swap page, model "2 meter CAP232" and it comes with a very good engine but rediculous aileron throws and way to much elevator. The rest is setup so it feels right, i.e servo speed, control throws, exp rate, balance, weight of wingpanels and so on ...Very exhaustive to do....I have recently purchased the G3 and there is somebody who has made a Pinnacle and even a Genesis you can download from the G3 swap page and they are very nice looking planes, but they feel totally unrealistic to fly or manouver around. All parameters have to be adjusted to give the same response and power feeling youd get flying the real thing. I'm keeping my G2 for this reason. I have not flown other simulators, just on very rare occasions, so I only speak for the realflight and I would say yes, you can use this simulator for training. You'd have to learn to count the time in your head for which the plane "are flying in the sky" , because you loose ground view and you will miss placing the manouver correctly. This will take some time to learn. ( But then again: Mike Hailwood counted his way through the turns on Isle of Man because it was foggy, doing a 100 mph on his Ducati ).
