RE: Retracts - Mechanical or Pneumatic?
ORIGINAL: makmov Pneumatics The will cycle several times on a single air charge. Yes, if there is a load on the servo up or down on the mech it will be a strain on the battery.
The key word here is IF. Mechanical retracts should always be set up such that no load exists at the end points, i.e. fully extended and fully retracted positions. If I were building the plane you were building, I'd probably use mechanical retracts. However, I expect that pneumatics would work just as well. It is really a matter of personal preference.

I generally don't weigh, but the few times I did, I used the bathroom scale because I had nothing else. What I did was to first weigh myself, then weigh myself AND the plane together. No prizes for figuring out the next step

No it most likely won't fit. We have a guy in our club with a Yak that size who drives a Magnum. He uses a trailer. I think 30% is about all that you can get into a station wagon.

RE: 26cc Extra 260: G26 or SPE 26?
ORIGINAL: victorzamora Ejiro, don't use a carb over 11.1mm in diameter. Anything bigger will just constantly flood the engine and is definitely not worth using. Anything bigger and you will NOT be able to tune the SPE26. I'd bet that an 11.1mm carb would provide significant power gains to the SPE.
Yes you are absolutely correct. RE: Azure 30% Extra 260 87
Oh My!! i didn't realize that Ryan had crashed his python! how sad....well I guess they all will crash someday. Yeah you are right about the rods needing adjustment; they were mostly too long, which is far better than being too short. The guy I bought it from was a bit dodgy; there was no landing gear and no box, but that is not a problem as I had a composite one from a crashed 50cc Yak which I have mounted. Good thing I made him a low ball offer. My job is getting in the way, making me slow in assembling this ARF. I hope to bring it to CRAMS in August.

RE: Zenoah G26 Starting
ORIGINAL: w8ye sounds as though you have a crankcase air leak or have turned the carb to where it no longer gets the crankcase impulse signal to run the fuel pump?
I think that this is the MOST likely reason right there. I had exactly the same issue two -three months ago. Turns out that the carb spacer the engine came with blocked off the crankcase pulse port. Had to change it to another one and problem fixed. I'd advise that you check this.

RE: Azure 30% Extra 260 87
I eventually bought the plane from the guy in Lethbridge, as you passed in the deal. I have not flown it yet because I am still puuting it together, but so far I can say that the quality of the kit is very good for what I paid for it. Although the trim shceme is a bit plain, the hardware is fit for pupose, and I will be using it as is on the model. I'll be putting in a DA 50 with pitts muffler, and if you fly out of CRAMS perhaps you'll get to see it fly when I do have it completed. Cheers.

RE: Servo crosstalk problem
I experienced something similar as well with my JR PCM 9X. Each time I go full throttle on my Venus II I notice it tends to roll left. I thought it had to do with insufficient right thrust at first, but closer inspection on the ground revealed that the right aileron was moving ever so slightly after half throttle! It was as though some sort of mix was in effect. I have managed to trace the issue to the fact that I have travel adjust on channel 1 (throttle) set at +140% and - 140%. Reducing the travel adjust on the throttle channel appears to remove the problem. Could your aileron channel travel adjust be set above 100%?

Thanks guys for the responses; right after I posted last night, I figured I'd do as Pat suggested, and use the SPE. I was planning on getting some of them Bowman rings, a new carb and an ignition unit. I will install it stock and see what improvements I can make.

26cc Extra 260: G26 or SPE 26?
Hi, I have two 26cc engines....a stock magneto Zenoah G26 and standard SPE 26 with Melody CDI ignition. I would like to find out what you'd do if you were limited to only these two (as I am now) for use on the small Extra 260. The plane is built really light, so I am a bit worried about using the G26, and would like to hear if anyone has any experience using it. i doubt there will be problems with the SPE, but power may be lacking........

RE: Flying in Saudi
The truth is, believe it not, you CAN fly with your daughter in Saudi. At least in the Al-Khobar - Dhahran - Dammam area, where I lived for two years. The best thing to do is to contact the Saudi Aviation Club (http://www.sac.com.sa) They can give you the best advice. The club in the Eastern Province were I lived also has it's web page: (http://epflying.org/e_index.asp). We had a lot of fun, trust me with unlimited runways in the desert;some of my Saudi friends came with their daughters regularly. Of course, these were little kids, not teenagers, so that is another issue. Finally one piece of advise you need; don't send your RC stuff there without first getting in touch, and getting clearance from the Aviation Club, or els it will be confiscated by customs. Good Luck

RE: Evolution 45 GX vs. 45 GX2
I don't think that you can repair the ignition. I tried fixing the Vlach ignition for my Evolution 58 GX; this is the old style for a 14mm spark plug. It did not work. I ended up buying a new unit. I bought it from puffin models in the UK, which was much cheaper that what Horizon was selling the same unit for. I also spoke to the chap at Puffin Models, and I remember him specifically saying the the newer model ignition was not compatible with the older cylinder head.

RE: Evolution 45 GX vs. 45 GX2
I believe that the spark plug are different as well. The GX has a 14mm plug while the GX2 has a 10mm. So the plug caps are different. I am not 100% sure, but please check this before you purchase

I fly both "thumbs only" and "thumbs and index finger" I learnt to fly using thumbs and finger method, but started using thumbs only soon after. Sometimes during one flight I use both interchangeably, without any changes in the precision.

RE: which is best? 4.8v or 6v ?
Mark
In an electric motor the torque produced is proportional to E x I. If you increase E you need less current provided you are using them in the same airplane.
That does not necessarily mean that because torque is proportional, it remains constant. After all, if the E goes up whilst the impedance remains the same, so I goes up. What we are seeing here is an increase in both E and I, resulting in increased torque.
