RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Thanks man! Yeah - I was just starting this hobby (well just getting back into it after 20 or so years) when the e-firestorm was new and found the thread. I was amazed by the size of the truck - hence the picture of the tire w/ a quarter. This truck is still great. It can take a beating that is for sure. My only gripe is the light front end but that can be taken care of for the most part. I haven't seen Red on this forum at all in a long time. I assume he got lost in the world of Reddit or something like that but hey we all need a break sometimes.

RE: What are your other hobbies??
Guitar, fishing, computers (both software and hardware - do them both for my job as well but I like them enough to do them at home too), and cooking. Man I love to cook.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Nitro - it was a pretty crazy scene but could have been much worse. Wanna-be nice to see you back. I took a while off and am on another break right now until I finish my daughters room (soon to be born and our first kid!!!). Once I have that done I think I will be able to talk my wife into letting me get another battery and charger. Would love to see a pic of the storm once you have the new part on it.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
So I tried to light my brother's basement on fire... Not sure what I messed up or if it was just a bad battery or what. Anyways I was charging a lipo (brand new just 4 runs on it) and and new charger maybe 12 chargers total. Didn't think anything of it but went into the house to find something and noticed a strange smell. My brother's wife goes into the house and can't find the smell but when she is walking downstairs the battery and charger just burst into flames. I have never seen anything like this. Luckily everyone was fine and not too much damage happened to their basement but I have learned that Lipo batteries are a completely different beast than NiHM. My wife is making me do some things around the house before I can get a new battery and charger - mainly she wants the nursery completed and soon. So I am out of the hobby for a little but will be back with LiPos again. And yes lots of drinking was involved.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
I'd race but the track is just too far away for me to get any real practice time in and my wife was not too pleased when I turned my back yard into a home made track (it took up the whole yard). How do you do with the e-firestorm and what trucks are you racing against?

RE: Musical Instruments you play?
Guitar for me - I have three. Epiphone SG, Fender POS acoustic, and my baby a 1968 Ovation Thunderhead (it is an Ovation electric) man that things plays nice. [link=http://www.baronaudio.com/collection/]something like this...[/link]. Also, I had one of the first 10 Ovation acoustic guitars ever made, unfortunately when I was at college the wood on the guitar finally gave out and tore the guitar apart :(. My grandfather used to work with Charlie Kaman building helicopters and it was during this time he was giving multiple prototypes to try. I am so sad I do not have that guitar more but it is what it is. My amp is a Peavey Bandit 112 - decent sound but nothing great and I have a Boss GT-8 pedal board. It is pretty sick.

RE: NASCAR or F1?
She will - she is driving for Dale Jr. He understands what the image is and what is needed. Think about it this way, he hasn't won a race in years and he is still the fan favorite. Danica is a decent driver - she is getting used to having fenders. She can talk the talk right now but is a little too timid on the track. I do not think she will win a race this year but I can see multiple top 10s. However, she is not the reason to watch the nationwide series. That series is great because even though there are a lot of the top drivers who come down, you get a lot of 19-21 year olds fighting it out. Honestly right now I would have to say the truck series is my favorite - those guys are crazy.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
do you have the castle link? If not, I would recommend getting it and you can program the esc right through the computer. This is really helpful and you can check out the break setting. Also, maybe try to resetting the radio to the receiver. To do that - with the truck off, hold the trigger all the way in and then turn on the car. It should be about four times and then light should start blinking red. Then hold full break and it should beep a few more times, then put it in the neutral position and it should beep a few more times. Once that is done, it should connect to the motor again and see if that helps. If not, it is time to take apart the gearing and see if you messed something out in there. I hope that isn't the case but with a crash that can happen. Anyways, good luck with the problem and let us know any progress or setbacks.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Nitro-Rob. I have only got to take out my Storm a few times since getting the new setup. I have to say I love the MMP ESC and the 5700 motor has crazy speeds. My temps are around 105-115 running full out. I think I am running 87/18 right now. I hit 47 mph with this setup (I could be wrong on the pinion though). Using Lipos makes a huge difference. No more cogging at all. Crazy Wheelies (I need to change some settings but it is fun for right now). The run times are crazy. I guess I need to upgrade my signature now...

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Hey Jaydub! Welcome to RCU! Lipo is the way to go. I didn't realize this until about a week ago when I finally got my new batteries. Until then I had been using some of the better Nihm batteries and would have about 10-15 minutes max runtime and super high heats. Also, I believe they are partially the reason I burnt out my last ESC. I think the Flux comes with deans which are great connectors and you should be able to find LiPos with them without a problem. I switched over to bullets and find them much easier than deans but no reason to change over unless you really want to. I would say something with 2s around 5000 mah and maybe 30c should be perfect for what you are looking for. For the charger - anything that can charge around 5 amps should charge your battery fairly quickly. I just went to the Duratrax Onyx AC/DC Dual Balancing Charger DTXP4245 and really like it. I am sure there are better ones out there but it is a good price and you get 2 chargers in 1. Not needed if you only have one battery or only want to charge one at a time.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
so I am going with the MMP 5700 combo, got 2 of the zippy lipos went 2s, 4000 mah, 30c. For the charger I went with a Duratrax Onyx 245 - currently I had their piranha one and it was great. Got the charger as the LHS but they didn't have the motor combo. Oh well. Thanks for helping out guys. hopefully this one does not go up in smoke as well.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Thanks man. Found out my LHS has the mmp w/5700 for $230. Not bad seems about equal with the prices I am seeing on the net so far. I will check out those chargers. Also, the zippy lipo at least the one posted is sold out.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
I am a little worried about the SV2 as I just had the original SW burn out on me for reasons I can't figure out. I had good batteries, low settings, regular gears and it just would always run hot. I like that the MMP has a fan built in to it. Any other thoughts? I think MMP is the right one for me with the 5700. Any thoughts on a new charger - my current one does not do LiPo.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
well - I had a sweet crash tore the screws out of my motor and the car didn't run. Put it back together as best as I could and everything was working. Ran it some more and noticed I kept smelling an electrical burn but checking the temps nothing seemed too crazy 170 on the esc and the motor was well below that. Charged a new batter plugged it in and the esc went up in smoke. So seeing that the motor is broken (not really but close enough) and the esc is fried I am looking to get a new one. I have been doing a lot of research but still don't have one that I am sold on. I do 90% bashing and maybe 10% racing. I want something that is strong and will last but also fast. MMP - w/ 5700 right now is my thought but I am not sold on anything at all. Beyond that, I think it is finally time for me to switch over to LiPo so if you have any thoughts on that let me know - right now looking at Gen Ace but would love some other opinions first.

RE: Spaz Stix is back
Dude, I just want to let you know - I will never buy paints from that site. First off, it is not well done. Second, you stole a post on a forum to advertise you own company. Not cool man. Have some respect for other companies out there and you will get a lot further in live. With 3 posts you probably shouldn't be posting links either, just saying. This post was just to let people know that Spaz Stix was in business, not the quality of their paint or the price of their paints, just that they are back.

RE: Flysky FS-GT3B
Yeah I have noticed the batteries go down quick. I have 16 rechargeable AA batteries so hopefully that will help but it looks like the conversion to lipo isn't too bad. However, that would require a lipo charger that I don't have (yet).

Spaz Stix is back
So I ordered from them back in February as I could not find their paints anywhere (at least for the colors I wanted). Never heard anything about my order and my card was never charged. I called the 800 number with no luck. I emailed a few times and heard nothing. Finally, about a week ago, I receive an email from the new owner saying that the company has switched hands and my order will ship if I still want it. Just wanted to let everyone know that this company is still around and their paints are great (at least from my practice paint jobs). And no I do not work for them or have anything invested in them, just bought a few things of paint from them.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
Nice man - I know, I am fairly certain this paint job is going to be something awful but whatever it will be fun none the less. I am so far removed right now the last time I was looking at parts RPM wasn't making anything and Integy had just started with theirs. Glad to see the truck is still doing well. It was a great feeling to get the truck up and running again.

RE: Official E-FIRESTORM thread
So - after about 8-9 months off because of a broken receiver (too lazy to replace and didn't want to keep the stock 27mhz radio) I finally got back in the game. Went with the Fly-Sky GT3B. What a difference!!! Loving the 2.4 ghz and no interference. Also, completely got rid of the cogging issues I have been having since going to the 4600 sidewinder combo. Anyways, I think this has rekindled my love for the RC world. Currently, I am working on my first paint job and will post pictures no matter how bad it comes out. Glad to see this truck still is getting a lot of support, even if the model I got is no longer around.

RE: Flysky FS-GT3B
Just got mine. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but did get it setup. Overall the setup was really easy, just needed to figure out how to change the throttle to reverse. Really excited as this is my first radio that was not 27 mhz. It feels a little cheap w/o batteries but I guess they all do. However, with batteries it feels great. So far I am impressed with this and at such a low price I am not sure if it could be beat.

RE: Tell me there is another way! Garage Door Lost Power!
You aren't going to be able to open the door without having access to the pull cord. I am surprised that the person installing the door did not put a keyed lock through the door for just this reason. It is common practice if the only way in / out of the garage to put this in the door. something like the last option on this page [link=http://www.garage-doors-and-parts.com/garage-door-locks.html]Check it[/link]. Other than that you will need to break in however you best feel possible. I highly recommend putting one in if you really only have access one way. Just a good fail safe. Experience - installed / serviced overhead doors for 5 years.

RE: Custom painter try's RC Car body
I like it for the most part. Not a huge fan of the colors on the hood / passenger side but the purple and blue with lightning look sick. Overall I'd give it 8/10. I can say I could not do anything better or near that but I think I would have liked it more if it was all like the driver's side. Real nice job!

I never understand the people who say no right turns. Yes most of their races are left turn only but they run on two tracks (as stated above) with plenty of turns both left and right. The history of racing has always been left turns - just think about it.

Holy crap - what a great way to end the season. Not just because my favorite driver own but the top two in points tie for points at the end finishing 1-2 in the race. Tony won 5 of the last 10 races. Amazing. This was a great year for the sport and Johnson didn't win the title this year which is great as well.
