RE: Is a Hitec Optic 6 Radio a Good Choice?
The Optic 6 is one of the finest radios that I've ever used. It really fits my smaller hands and is extremely user friendly especially programming. I had one on 72 MHZ and sold it. I wanted to buy a Hitec radio on 2.4 mhz at the time, but Hitec was still developing it. Therefore I bought a JR 9303 with a bunch of recievers that I am now stuck with. The JR radio is impossible to program intuitively. If I were starting from scratch today, I would go with Hitec. You won't go wrong.

RE: Why Is 3D Hated?
While 3D flying is difficult to master, as a spectator, it's boring to watch. When you go to a 3D event and watch all the pilots doing the same thing over and over, you want to watch something else. I try to fly 3D and find it very challenging and enjoy doing it, but I don't like watching it.

RE: JR 9503 issues
Hoosier, Sounds like your'e the JR 9303 programming guru. I hate this radio because it is hard to program and not intuitive. I've been trying to change my flap control from the flap switch to the left side slider. Nowhere does it say in the manual what the side sliders are called. There is aux1, aux2, aux3 and aux4. What the heck are the sliders and how to you activate them??

RE: New Radio what to choose??
I have two JR 9303 radios. One a 72 mhz with a Spectrum conversion kit and on a dedicated 2.4 ghz. They are good, reliable radios, but I hate them because they are difficult to program. Nothing is intuitive. For a sport flyer, I can't see why you need anything more than 7 channels. In my estimation, any brand radio is a good choice. All of them have had problems which are magnified on these forums, probably due to the operator. Pick one that tickles your fancy.

RE: JR stops the sales of 2.4 as of last night for upgrade
No more JR/Spektrum stuff for me. I'm going to stick with what I have until it dies, then buy a Hitec Aurora.

RE: Is Spektrum worth it?
I have two JR 9303 systems, one a dedicated 2.4 and the other a conversion. They are good radios and work well, but I hate the fact that they are not intuitive to program. If I were starting out today, I would definitely buy a Hitec Aurora 9. It's a beautiful radio, very ergonomic and easy to program.

Regardless of whether dbcisco is a ranting nut or has a legitimate beef about the AMA, I can't see why any competent legal firm would send a letter such as this to an individual who rants on a forum such as RCU. Heavens, there are thousands out there that do the same thing every day. I supsect a turd has been uncovered here and the smell is starting to bother someone.

RE: Airplane rudder gyro
I use a GY401 for the rudder on my Hangar 9 cub only on takeoff. My JR9303 allows me to shut the thing off once I break ground. It works great. Since I installed it, I haven't ground looped it yet.

RE: JR X9303 problem
I had a similar problem. Ultimately found that the elevator function was mixed with the flap. Make sure you inhibit any functions that you don't want. In my case, everytime I went flying and unconciously moved the flap switch, the elevators wer WAY out of trim. It drove me nuts until I figured this out. Good luck.

RE: what was your first radio system?
My first was an Orbit 10 channel reed set. I was able to stuff it into an Andrews H-Ray (3 servos only) and learned to fly on this in 1967. A year later, I bought a Kraft 4 channel Gold Medal series radio. I thought I died and went to heaven.

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48
I find that many airplanes of this type are rather delicate and can't tolerate any roughness on landings, etc. The landing gear mounts seem to be the most likely thing to break. Anyone have that experience with this one?

Truth be known is that the cells all come from the same factory in the far east. They just change the covering and label.

Sounds like your charger malfunctioned. Check to see which version chip is inside. Astro has changed these a couple of times. Get the latest one (Ver 2.0 I think). I would write or email Astro about this problem and ask them for a free replacement.

This looks identical to my H&M Performance Spitfire (no longer in business) that is identical to the Hangar 9 Spitfire. I'm sure there is only one Chinese factory cranking these things out for various customers. BTW, mine flies great!

JR 9303 vs. 9303
I have a dedicated 2.4 JR 9303 and an older 9303 with the conversion module. Can't say as I notice any difference when flying, nor does there seem to be any reliability issues. Any of you have both types and have you had any issues with either?

RE: Question about Lipo disposal
Disposing of them is easy. 1. Discharge them using your lipo charger as much as it will go. The battery will not be fully discharged at this point. 2. Buy a 12 volt RV light bulb (a big one, just like you use at home) from Walmart or RV store and wire it to fully discharge the battery. After you connect the battery to the bulb, wait until the light goes out. 3. Pierce the battery with a nail or some other tool 4. Put the battery in a salt water solution overnight 5. Throw the battery in the trash. You may want to salvage your connector.

RE: JR 9503 OR aURORA 9?
I have two JR 9303 radios, one on 72 mhz and one on 2.4 ghz. I like them except for the extreme difficulty in programing them. The programming is definitely not intuitive. I had a Hitec Optic 6 which I loved! It was very easy to set up. Today, if I were buying a radio, I would definitely buy the Hitec Aurora. As far as I'm concerned the backlit display and the timer function is no big deal.

RE: Covering claimed to be Monokote on Great Planes RV-4 after 2-1/2 years
The last GP ARF I covered in genuine "Wrinklecoat" bought came with the usual wrinkles. I had to practically burn the stuff to get it to shrink. A couple of weeks later, the wrinkles were back. I've had several models covered with Ultracoat and they all held up well and still look good today. Tower doesn't want to seem to stand up and fix the problem.

RE: TRIM CHANGE
ORIGINAL: jaka Hi! Let me give you some advise. Never do the final trim of the plane using the electronic gismos, like sub trim. Understand me right! You can do this the first couple of times you fly a plane but always remember that you must do a sound mechanical trim once you have landed. So set the sub trim to zero and adjust the linkage mechanically first and then fly again, then land and trim the side rudder mechanically and so on..until finally you can do slight trimmings using the electronic trim functions in the radio. Using the sub trim function 113% is way too much! Just check the servo arm and you see that it is not sitting 90 degrees when the plane flies straight. The servo arms should always be set so the arms is in a 90 degree position when the plane flies straight. This means adjusting the linkage mechanically!!!!
That's exactly what I did when I originally set up the plane. But after 12 flights, the trim suddenly changed 113 percent all by itself. I guess you guys don't understand my explanation. Now you figure it out.
