RE: Does this mean no maidens @ Sanctioned Event?
Well, you guys better stay clear of IRCHA. It's just as much a funfly as a trade show. New helicopters are taking to the air every minute of the event, as well as newly repaired ones. Many new pilots bring their new birds to IRCHA and many other smaller events around the country to get expert assistance in setting up and tuning their models. I guess it's understood in the heli community that a heli that isn't going to fly isn't going to get very far, but there are still inherent dangers. So who wants to be the one to stand up in front of 980 helicopter pilots registered at IRCHA and tell them they can't fly their new birds bought at one of the dozen or more vendors at the event? Rules or not, you'd be laughed off the site. It'd be like enforcing a dress code at a tractor-pull :) Oh, and what do combat pilots do at their events? They don't make repairs and continue in the event? Yeah right... Just sayin'

RE: Models can be Autonomous y/n
Here's what I don't understand: Why does the control system of a particular model dictate if it's a hobby or not? Hobbies come in all shapes and forms, electronics, sizes, etc. All I see here is a bunch of folks that either don't understand or maybe fear what they don't know - autonomous flight control systems. Didn't you old guys go through this same process when RC came about? All the CL and FF veterans poo-pooed RC and said it wasn't true aeromodelling either? You all are stuck on defining autonomous for some stupid reason, when it looks to me like you need to define what a model is, and what a hobby is. If I want to spend my own money on building a UAV, and enjoy operating it for recreational purposes only, then that is a obviously hobby of mine - nevermind what you think or not. Considering that it is an aircraft, it classifies as an "aero hobby". Whether it's a model or not can be debated. I'm somewhat under the impression that a model is a reproduction in scale of some larger version of a particular thing. However, following that strict definition, most of the planes and helicopters we fly in RC are not really models, either. So, those of you building ugly stick and sport "models" aren't true "aeromodellers" either, since those planes aren't models of anything in full scale. Of course, that would be as absurd as saying that someone building and flying UAVs for recreational purposes is not a hobby. There are plenty of folks on here that are self-righteous enough to declare whether someone's activities are hobbies or not. So, there is a new direction for this debate. Stop arguing the definition of autonomous (since it's pretty obvious to more reasonable folks) and agree on a definition of what a hobby is and a model is.

RE: 3D flying
Ya'll are offering rational suggestions to appease irrational people. I would bet that they don't have any clue what any 3D maneuvers are called, how to define it, etc. They just don't like seeing folks have fun doing things they feel are "unnatural" or "annoying." None of the suggestions here offered to the OP will work with such people. OP: The only thing to do is what you did before. Take a stand with your rational flying peers and keep voting them down, or better yet, out.

RE: FAA under pressure to open skies to drones.
The point is (again) that the DraganFlyer is not marketed or sold as a model, as you put it. I agree with a lot of your points, but your argumentative nature over semantics is painting you as the quintessential academic with too much time on your hands. Despite this, I doubt you could school me in anything RC or UAS related. I've been involved in the former for over 22 years, and the latter for over six, with more than 2000 flight hours on various small UAS. However, it has been fun watching you bicker back and forth over semantics and playing the blame game. I will say again, some of your points I agree with...but you aren't making friends and influencing people with the way your going about it. [:)] BTW, love the ferret! I used to have a couple myself [:D]

RE: Is 55 pounds extremely critical?
Yes, it's very critical. The moment you lift off the ground weighing more than 55 pounds, the Earth's magnetic field will reverse, and a time/space wormhole will appear at the spot you broke ground. All life as we know it will cease to exist, being instantly sucked into a vortex that time itself cannot escape. Or... You can file for that experimental certificate them other guys told you about and all is good again. [:D]

RE: FAA under pressure to open skies to drones.
I know the idiots in the media won't let the term go, but PLEASE stop calling them "Drones". Drones are remotely piloted aircraft meant to be shot down as targets. UAVs, or UAS, are not "drones". As an industry professional, I plead with you! [:D]

RE: T-maxx 3.3 vs. Baja 5b ss? Can anyone help?
ORIGINAL: Freezetron I live in apartment too and I have no gas fume issues. Coleman fuel has also been found to foul up the engine quicker and its lower octane rate increases the chance of premature detonation which can result in a destroyed engine.
Interesting. This is completely opposite from my experience. My engine is sparkling clean inside, as seen from the exhaust port and spark plug hole. I don't know what you mean by fouled up. I have over 5.5 gallons through my CY26, which, from what I read everywhere, is 2 gallons more than it should have lasted. I've only been running it since mid March. I've never encountered detonation, either, so, you got me [8D] I have a couple buddies that operate gasser helicopters, one for professional aerial photo/video services, and have tons of hours on their G230s and G26 engines using Camp Fuel without "fouling up' engines... so, who knows?

RE: T-maxx 3.3 vs. Baja 5b ss? Can anyone help?
I live in an apartment at the moment...so I went with Coleman Camp fuel (White Gas). It's for all intents and purposes odor-free, burns incredibly clean in the engine, and makes excellent power. It is about 3 times more expensive per gallon, and you can only get it at Wal-Mart or Outdoors stores, but to me it's worth it. I don't understand how a gasser can end up more dirty/slimy than a Nitro, though.

RE: Which 2,4 Ghz Radio?
I have been running a Spek DX3S on a rock crawler. The range on it is very poor (about 100 yards). A Baja can cruise 100 yards in about 5 seconds. I decided to opt for the Futaba 3PMX on advice from others. I have no idea what the range is on that radio...haven't had it give up yet at over 300 yards. The DX3S has a pretty screen, though. [:D]

You really want to get the HPI Alloy Clutch/Pinion Holder. The stock plastic one just sux. If you have budget left, get a nice clutch bell, too. I opted for the King Cobra vented bell. Both of these come out to just under $100 together.

*AHEM* Back on topic... Has anyone tried Coleman fuel (white gas) mixed with synthetic (Sabre, Techniplate, etc)? Coleman fuel is popular in the gasser helicopter arena, and works great, burns clean. I live in an apartment and can't have gasoline stink in my unit.
