RE: FSR nitro boat ?
Yes, sure it is a FSR-V 15 class boat. The hull maybe is a delfino or something around. I would say this is a boat from the late 80s or maybe begining of 90s. The fuel´s thank size is OK for a 30 minutes race. There are people around that can be much more precise thant I.

May be I am wrong, but I think the turbo glow plug has a M8X0,75. At least this are the tapes I use.

RE: .21 Mono - Gear Drive or Direct Drive?
These are some examples of the gearboxes a make. Now I can do the gears, but some years ago I didn´t have such a possibility and I ordered the gears, the steel gear with the flywheel and the delrin gear (you have perstwich, iansboats, and white&red RC). I think if you search you will find the gears. Always remember the MODULE 1 for the gears is the most used. I am now developing a gearbox for .21 outboards The first experience was very good

RE: .21 Mono - Gear Drive or Direct Drive?
I never used such a gearbox. In the past I used mocom gearboxes and now when I need I make them. The main thing is the engine should be mounted in a flat surface and the the distance between gears. In almost every situation you must fine tune the fit between gears. With a little of skill it´s possible to make a gearbox assuming you can buy the gears. Anyway this gearbox you show in the photos looks fine.

RE: .21 Mono - Gear Drive or Direct Drive?
The dimensions of the hull are important to determinate if would be better to use a gearbox or not. Assuming a standard 2:1 ratio for a .21 gearbox you will use allways a much bigger prop and the hull dimensions must be also bigger to compensate the aditional torque. If you pay atention to the Naviga world champs results in th .21 and .45 offshore classes you will see always geared engines.

Once in the 80s I raced a geared webra speed 20. I made the gearbox and I only can say this was a wonderfull engine. I still have it. The gearbox was inspired on the speedy 1.8

RE: Need Help First Boat Ever Undertaken
Hi This hull is for sure a multi racing class hull, probably from the the begining of the 80s. It is no longer competitive, but it will be a nice sport rc boat. Prestwich models offers you a wide range of items for that kind of boats.

Why don´t you try the marine version, I mean the OS VZ-M. It works great

RE: What hull is this??
Yes there is difference, but this is important for racing. For sport use a plastic propeller is OK.

RE: What hull is this??
Usually the shape of the blades is different as they work in different conditions http://www.icboats.org/boat/documents-pdf/propeller%20and%20ruder%20information.pdf Here you have some good information. Submerged propeller as a rule is more thinner in the trailing edge area. About the Octra 1240 I think they work well as submerged but as you can see in this site http://modelmarinesupplies.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=53&products_id=121&osCsid=eb69ce718d89e8940465e894b1708acc They are too big for your engine. I would try a mocom 1816 or a plastic Radio-Active X-35 5mm. The Octura X-438 may work (but it seems to me they are better for surface).

RE: What hull is this??
I don´t know the age of this boat, but the type of the the hull´s shape that is in the photo is about 38 years old. The size and type of the propeller I gave you is a starting point. As everybody knows the best way to find th right propeller is to try. If your boat is running it´s great. Try some submerged type propellers around 40mm diameter.

RE: What hull is this??
Let´s imagine the engine is in good shappe. I would mount a mocom Propeller 1816 ( you can buy at prestwich models UK) a fuel tank and would go to the pound. A 25% nitro fuel with at least 15% castor oil. Firstly check everything and then try to run the boat. Good Luck P.S. In the past around 1970, more or less, such a kind of hull would need a .40 engine, but this was 38 years ago.

RE: What hull is this??
It would be good if you could show the bottom of the hull. About the engine I can say only two things. It seems to me to be a .21 with one "OS" type carb and you will have some work to put the engine in running condition. Could you give the sze of the hull?

RE: MDS 3.5 (.21) Glow Marine Engine
I have some. This is what I do. First of all change the bearings, after change the conrod ( force.21 works great). Forget the carb I use an OS. The exhaust timming should be at least more tha 170 degrees.Fuel with 25% of nitro and more 18% of castor oil. With this mod the engine is sreams and is very reliable. Don´t forget the tune pipe.

RE: Project 2 Backup Plan
The exhaust timming should be about 180 deg, so you must cut the upper part of the exhaust port till you get it. This should be done very carefully. I race in FSR multirace so I don´t have too much experience with popellers for deep Vees but I think a prather 215 would work fine or maybe one octura X-440. If you are or live in UK you can buy one PMC a tuned pipe. They are very expensive but they work great(Prestwich models). If you take a look you can always find on the ebay a tuned pipe for a resonable price(I mean a rossi for example). As a rule any 180 deg exhaust manifold for a .21 car engine should work with the force engine.

RE: Project 2 Backup Plan
If the boat is the Speedmaster .21 I think it should be any .21 engine. In this case the Force .21 . With a .21 engine you will have a boat which can compete in the .21 offshore class, but with a .26 or more you will be in the .45 class. So the choice is yours.

RE: Project 2 Backup Plan
I saw already some pictures of the boat you are talking, but I never saw anyone. I have some experience with Force engines and they need some tunning before they begin to put the power out, in stock form the OS is much better. I made an Outboard based on the OS lower end with a gearbox made by me and to power it I chosed one Force .21 with an OS carburater and a Silver bulet pipe. Everything was completely new and after the break in I was disapointed with the engine´s performance. After I modified the exhaust timming the engine began to scream. In the near future I will put some photos of this project. About the force you will need to open the exhust port and you will have a powerfull engine.

RE: New project model unknown
It seems to be a Graupner Maxi Speed from the 80s converted to take a glow engine. If this engine is in good shape the power is quite enough. If you will need to mount a new engine I think a new .12 can be already too much.
