RE: Look what Santa "Gaspar" Claus sent to me...
A Newton is the SI unit of force. It is defined as the force required to accelerate a mass of 1kg at 1 m/s/s. So in simple terms 100N equates to 10kg of thrust which in imperial terms is ABOUT 22lbs Hope that helps.

RE: Sadly our hobby has lost a wonderful member today, Vern Kramer.
Larry, I know for sure that Vern will never be forgotten, I too lost my Dad (and best flying buddy) early on and think about him everyday. You will do the same, when you are in the shop, at the field and at "meets". There are so many reminders out there to be proud of. Firstly all your own planes, then those that you built for others and lastly lots and lots of photos. And then there are the memories. There will be days when the weather is not so good and the "hangar doors" will be open, they will be good days as we will have lots of great stories to recall. Thank you for sharing some of those moments with us. We look forward to spending some time with you later this year. Jonathan and Johanna

RE: Sadly our hobby has lost a wonderful member today, Vern Kramer.
Larry has asked me to post some pictures of Vern with his friends at his home airfield, whilst he enjoyed being with all his modeling family around the country this was where he really enjoyed being. We came over from England as much as possible, at least twice a year and spent a whole week going out to fly. Some days we could not fly as the wind was too strong, but it did not matter as we would tell stories of the other great days we had previously had. Vern we are going to miss you!

Sadly our hobby has lost a wonderful member today, Vern Kramer.
It is with such sadness that I tell you that Vern Kramer passed away on the 14th August at 14:05 peacefully in his sleep having been unable to beat cancer. Jo and I met the “Kramers (Vern, Beulah and Larry) in November 2001 at the Florida International Jet Rally, we had come over from the U.K. for a holiday, but mainly to see the “Jets in action with some good weather. Vern invited us to stay under his tent, as he was very worried that we would get sun burnt being out in the sun all day. This was the beginning of a wonderful relationship. The following year we returned but this time with models and had a great time at FIJR. After the meeting was over we then travelled south to stay in Naples and sample the delights of the south west of Florida. This led to us becoming good friends and meeting up with Vern and Larry all over the USA. We have kept 2 models in a storage unit ever since and wherever we went the models would follow. On 3 occasions Vern and Larry brought them up to Indiana to Tim Redelman’s meeting ‘Jets over the Heartland’. We would never have been able to fly direct into Chicago and have such a wonderful time had it not been for them. Master builder and Master painter, Vern will be well remembered for his stunning models, BVM Bandit and BVM Kingcat, to name but 2, always winning trophies at many events around the country. The number is too many to recall, but if ever you stopped by his tent he was always happy to show you his models and explain how the building and painting was done. Recently he purchased a ‘Boomerang Elan’, well this was just fantastic, always a good pattern pilot, he was just ever so happy to come out to field with his Brit friends and give the Boomerang a good fly. He was just able to relax that bit more and really enjoy each flight. Not to mention the hundreds of flights he put on his famous Compensator. I was fortunate to spend a week with Vern in May this year, we went to the field each day and just messed about and flew planes, talked about this and that for hours, sat under the tent while it rained, but none of it mattered as we were just having a good time. His trust was wonderful, on one occasion he offered me a flight on his Venus with the single stick tx, I was well made up seeing I fly mode 1. I am happy to say all ended well. I have lost a friend, a second father; the hobby has lost a great builder, painter and a true ambassador of the “Jet scene. Vern I do hope that everyday has blue skies and no wind, endless Jet A and that you have many more flight with you’re your friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with Buelah, Larry, Sheila, Diane and the rest of the family.

RE: Jets Over Kentucky Week
Boli man, you have it all set up, well impressed. As I said to you when I saw you at Florida Jets earlier this year I am sorry that I will not be there with you this year. Jo and I made a lot of new friends when we were at KJ 2008, and we will really miss being with all of you. Hopefully all being well we will be back next year. Lewis, what can I say, so sorry we can not be with you, however we are sending our "reps" Larry and Vern !! I know that they will have a wonderful time at your meeting. So to all those new friends we made last year, keep the blue side up, oh yeah the reason we can not be with you is that I am on a B747-400 course and am a very lucky guy. Have fun, Jonathan and Jo.

RE: Jets Over the Heartland 2009
Hello to Tim, Tracy, Ralph and all our friends, Jo and I will sadly miss all of you this year at the "MAC". We had everything organised. The vacation, the flight tickets, the minivan and the Super 8 in Rochester and last but not least Larry and Vern Kramer to bring our planes up from Naples. Then the phone rang and it was work. It was one of those once in a life time phone calls. They asked me to go on a course from June the 9th until July 22nd. Oh no that is right when 'Jets over the Heartland' is. Well I could not say no and had to call Tim and say sorry but we would not be able to attend. Then cancel all the bookings. Well one thing is for sure this is a fantastic meeting, we have attended for the last three years, all week from Sunday to Sunday and had the most wonderful time. Met lots of new friends and we will be back next year! We wish all of you a great week and look forward to seeing the photos. Oh yeah, I nearly forgot the course.........B747-400 erf See you next year Jonathan and Jo

RE: Sapac L-39 & T-45 Composite + Hoffman 70 Storm
Yeah you guys are right, I'm going to mount the ESC outside of the tailcone so it does not constrict the airflow to the motor. You know examining the fan unit I came to the conclusion that the tailcone of the Storm fan unit actually creates a vacuum that actually delivers to the front of the fan unit passing through the motor. So the way most motors cool down in the fan units is from spinner to tailcone which is actually the exact opposite compared to the Hoffman Storm which cools from tailcone whole through the motor to the spinner, WHO WOULD OF THOUGHT!! :) Cant wait for the Joe Nall people are going to flip when they see this thing fly. I came back from vacation so we will get some detailed build info very soon. Dean

BVM Ultra Bandit Maiden
Bennie and Anita Van de Goor (from AMT NL) came to the U.K. to take delivery of their new AMT (NL) Olympus HP powered BVM Ultra Bandit. The weather was nearly perfect, warm with a light crosswind from the right. We arrived at the airfield at about 9:30 and spent the next hour or so going over the aircraft to make sure that all was well. Geoff White took charge of the proceedings as he was the Master Builder on this occasion. After the obligatory range checks and final battery charge she was ready to go at about 11:30. So there we have it, she was airborne and "WOW" this was looking to be a really lovely aeroplane. Safely back on the ground the laptop was plugged in an a few minor adjustments were made to the Weatronics receiver and she was ready to go again. In all we had 5 flights and each one was an improvement on the last, flight 5 and Bennie was really in the grove. The pictures show for themselves, especially the high speed pass down the runway. We packed up at about 17:00 and went for supper, all in all a fantastic day and another Ultra Bandit has joined the fleet. Be sure to see it fly at Jet Power 2008 in the hands of the legendary David Schulman. Thanks to Andrew (Dr Jet) for the great photos.

Hey Lewis, We had such a great time with our vacation this year we have booked for a full three weeks for next year. I understand the date issue from both sides but as they say "you gota do what you gota do". So 2009 is going to be 'MEGA' for us. A week with Tim and Tracy and then a week off to recover and then a week with you. My maths tells me that I burnt nearly 40 gallons this year so will have to see if I can burn more next year. Rgds Jonathan and Jo

I will back up Bob as I saw most of the 16 flights, it was just amazing watching him "fuel and fly". There were no issues at all and the model sat very well in the air. All credit to Bob. If you look at the rewards you will see his efforts were recognised.

RE: Jets over Kentucky 2008 pics!!!
Synthetic, I took that photo, and the chrome thing you see is called an "aerial". Funny old thing but it works very well. Actually I use one too!! I am a little confused why you did not know what it was as at both Winamac and Kentucky about 30% of the pilots found this a very good way to control their aeroplanes. I am sure in time we will all use 2.4, but just because it is now available does not mean that 72/35 mhz is dead. When we had nothing else we were all very happy with what we had. The guy in the photo is Dave Murray from Chicago and he had many successful flights with his MB339 and F5.

RE: Winamac Jets Over The Heartland 2008 Event!
Tim, Tracy and all of our friends. We have now arrived back in Europe and it is 58 degrees with low cloud and rain. Oh how to be back at Winamac!! After a fantastic holiday it only leaves us to say a big thank you for all your efforts. We had a really great time and have already booked up for next year. The whole week worked out really well, The new Catering Co was fun and may be we could offer it from day one so that nobody would ever have to leave the field. Seems to me that we need accommodation on the field then we would be in "paradise". So here is to "Jets over the Heartland 2009", bring it on!
