RE: MIBO A10
Actually, you can get Jet Tech to modify the top tank with a "step" that allows some room under the rear hatch. Bob Levine has this setup and has some of his electronics on a shelf, accesable by the hatch. It's an extra $40 to have the tank made this way, but, IMHO, worth it. BRG, Jon

RE: SU-34 Fullback
Lee, I just checked with HL, they have the Blue SU-34. I ordered the airframe set as my green one is pretty bashed up. Will strip the stuff out of the green one into the blue one. They're running a 20% off sale, so if you're interested you can save a couple of bucks. Where do you get your batteries, I can't find a source. BRG, Jon

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
The 2300 has 25 pounds of thrust. What type of horns are you using? I'm using the aluminum Robart offset hinges, not sure if that makes a difference. You can adjust the speed of the gear up/down as well as the speed of the doors opening/closing with the needle valves on the UP-2. Jon

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
I have the L-39 and never had an issue with the doors not closing. I'm using a SimJet 2300 without a bypass, standard Robart 1" cylinders and the UP valve. I pressurize the system to 120 psi, but even at low pressure, around 70-80, they still work, although slowly. Not sure what's causing your problem. BRG, Jon

I agree about JR. He and I had some heated discussions over the years. In a private e-mail, he told me it was fun posting on RCU but if I wanted info on the AMA, just call them, they'll answer your questions, and you get first hand info, not internet BS. When the "turbine war" was going on with DB, even he answered my e-mails. You know what-JR was right! BRG, Jon

Anyone who hasn't made reservations yet, do so ASAP! I tried to make reservations and the closest I could get for a no smoking room is the HolidayInn Express in Allentown. Tor, So sorry to read about your crash. I'm sure the next one will be even better! After reading your post, I'm concerned that, since I only fly off grass, I was wondering if people are flying large F-16's off grass. If so, any problems/comcerns? I was going to test fly it this weekend, but I think I'll wait. If not, the only time I fly off pavement is at a jet meet soI guess I won't be getting very many flights on the F-16. BRG, Jon

It sure is a great looking model. I'd like to get one, but I'm really worried that it will turn into another Mig-29 fiasco and I can't take that chance on a $10K model. I'll certainly follow the thread as the A-4 is one of my favorites. BRG, Jon

RE: Any jet guys migrate from 9303 to 12X?
I have a 9303 and just bought a 12X. The only thing I don't like about the 12X is the throttle trim is digital rather than the digital. I don't like electronic trims at all, you can't see their position unless you look at the screen, but since no one has manual trims anymore, I have to live with it. However, the nice thing about the 9303 is it still had a manual trim on the throttle, but now that's gone too. It was great for startup. For shut down, I can move the manual trim quicker than the digital trim can react. Oh well, progress-I guess. BRG, Jon

RE: And still a Bottom Feeder
Bill, In his article GH was very clear about who he feels are bottom feeders: anyone who goes on the internet and criticizes AMA or manufacturers, in his case, Futaba. What I find interesting is his choice of using the phrase bottom feeders instead of misguided, or shows a lack of understanding, etc. Bottom feeder is not a common phrase and is certainly a much more forceful and has a denigrating tone than the two examples cited above. Obviously he selected the phrase carefully to emphasize his contempt to those he saw as critical of the AMA. The article came out months ago and I’m sure GH knows the reaction it caused. His supporters have written numerous posts saying GH meant this or that, but GH has never posted anything, anywhere that I’m aware of, explaining what he meant. Therefore, I guess GH feels he doesn’t need to explain anything, as the article speaks for itself. I’m a little surprised that AMA did not issue a disclaimer regarding the article. Again, I guess the staff agreed with the article and felt it wasn’t worth the trouble to post a disclaimer. I’ve never met GH but I wonder if I confessed to him that I’ve gone on the net and questioned some, not all like some posters, AMA policies, if he would be man enough to call me a bottom feeder to my face. Its one thing to hide behind a key board, quite another to be face to face with someone you are putting down. BRG, Jon

The A-10 doesn't use a drag chute-hence the declerons that are deployed on landing to slow it down. They can also e used in flight as dive brakes, etc. Brg, Jon

RE: 4th gen A-10 by Mibo jets
Hi Dan, Thanks for the info. For the vast majority, the little panel doesn't really matter as only HOG fanatics noticed it, let alone incorporate it in the model. How are you doing on the accesories? I'm still building mine, so I have time. Are you working on a scale fowler flap mechanisim? I can't remember if it was you or Roger. I'll send you an e-mail and order the canopy. Also to luckyb001, Squadron/Signal has a nice wakaround book on the A-10 that's not too expensive. Covers mainly the early variants, but has a little on the later models. BRG, Jon

RE: 4th gen A-10 by Mibo jets
The problem making the canopy operation scale is the square panel mounted on the fuse right behind the canopy. On the real plane, as the canopy opens, it moves rearward and then opens and the door raises and moves aft with the canopy. All the pictures I've seen of models do not have the panel, it's just part of the rear canopy. Also, the canopy is raised/lowered using a "folding" bracket that is attached to a jack screw that powers the mechanisim. On the models I've seen, they just attach the piston rod from an air cylinder to the canopy to operate it. Details4scale has a canopy system for the A-10 but I'm not sure if it uses the folding bracket or just an air cylinder for operation. Also I'm not sure about whether the small door is represented. Do a Google search on the A-10, you'll find lots of walk arounds including numerous cockpit shots from the prototype through the A-10C. There's an excellent book on the A-10 that shows all the detail you could ever want but it's pricey, around $45. Unless you're going to really detail it a search will give you a lot of info. BRG, Jon

RE: Future of EDF?
I was at Liberty Bell too and saw them fly. The problem for me was the sound, the D/F noise, sounds NOTHING like a jet. I remember at the first Liberty Bell there were a few IC D/F's trying to get off the ground. It was around 105 degrees out and those OS 91's were screaming their guts out trying to generate enough RPM's to get the model airborne. I really don't understand the waiver issue. When I got my waiver in '02 you had to attend a manufacturers ground school, take a written test and send it in to AMA to be graded and then complete a rather lengthy flight test. Now it's been streamlined to just the flight test and if you can fly a decent sized warbird you won't have a problem. I agree with Ray, it probably will be the wave of the future, but I just can't see me giving up my turbines. I, like Ray, probably have five years left to fly high performance models, so I'll be OK (unless the FEDS ban them). I took the EDF plunge and bought a HL SU-34, but one of the fans exploded the first time I ran the engine up. Boy, they sure are fragile!. BRG, Jon

RE: Hobby-Lobby SU-34 Full Back
I got mine last week and agree there's a lot for the money. I'm thinking of removing the l/g to save weight as I fly from grass. I took it out last weekend and when I ran the motors up to full throttle, the left fan exploded, so that was the end of the test flight. I'm curious to see if it can do a real COBRA and not the zoom climb that is posted on HL's website. HL is sending out a new fan so I guess I'll have to wait until next weekend. This is my first foamie and never realized how fragile they are. BRG, Jon

RE: How was Capital Jets '09 ??
I thought it was a really nice event. Large enough that you had a good cross section of models and small enough that you could see everything and pretty much fly as often as you wanted. The weather on Friday and Sunday was perfect, Saturday AM was OK, but the wind really picked up Saturday afternoon due to a strong front moving through. The facility was great and hope it will be held there next year. BRG, Jon
