RE: Mato's vs RCCommand's 3:1 gearboxes
I will be using the Tamiya DMD for my KV-1. The small motors that come with the Asiatam gearbox is sufficient? DH

Swathdiver, Would you recommend the RCC 3:1's in the Asiatam KV-1? I was also thinking about the long can 400's too. DH

Try Battlefield Bad Company. It's $20 and has a few large maps to practice your tactics. Alot of fun. Check this clip out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wlNcaEjPG4

Mine will be here next week. Thanks Bill. Excellent service... SU152 is the current plan. We'll see how many times I change my mind before I get it. Would love to be able to mod it to a JS-3 DH

RE: 1/16 TAMIYA KUBELWAGEN STATIC TO R/C CONVERSION
A bit of progress to report. Rear gearbox is done and mounted. Went with a new approach. Motor mounted vertically and on a pivoting rod giving similar action to a solid axle. Gives the most interior space and will be well hidden under the top. Wheels are now mounted up to the axle via 5/32 collars. Will fabricate a dust cover / skid plate for the gears but the clearance is quite good. Now, on to the front. Still have no idea what to do. DH

1/16 TAMIYA KUBELWAGEN STATIC TO R/C CONVERSION
Time to start a small conversion project. Started with a STATIC Kubel with the desert balloon tires and the Rommel figure. My plan is to give it full proportional control via my surplus micro electronics and build a closed cloth top to conceal the goodies. Gearbox is a scratch unit using an old toy for the awesome worm gear. (about 19:1 ratio) Suspension is still up in the air. Might use a flex plate for the gearbox and rear wheels (old school on road pan car style) and still have no idea for the front. The balloon tires are perfect. They give the perfect amount of squish and should perform much better on our battlefield. Darrin

RE: I made a list...can you check it twice?
The Tamiya Tiger 1 sound is also very nice. Startup / shutdown is awesome. I plan to build a Asiatam PIII (all metal) but use the Tamiya Pershing electronics and battle system. (Idle and in gear functionality) Best of both worlds IMO...... DH

RE: The Shermans are in at Mato
Agreed Kalnaren, I don't plan on buying one. Just using the available parts for a full scratch project. (minus tracks, wheels etc.....) Others will do this too. Might even use the tracks for other non Sherman subjects. Double guide horned tracks are rare in 1/16. Darrin

RE: The Shermans are in at Mato
Guys, There is a bright side to all this. We SHOULD be getting plenty of metal upgrades for this tank and possibly some cast stuff.... tracks idlers sprockets suspension upgrades (I would be willing to bet someone will market this) With these parts, a reliable scratch built hull will be attainable. I don't scratch anything unless the tracks are available. The only problem I see is the narrow hull and fitting the aftermarket gearboxes inside. (Working on that solution right now) Darrin

RE: conversions
Ron's Chaffee is really small at a true 1/16 scale. The Bulldog is 1/15th I believe so your scale would be close to 1/13 or bigger if you kept the lower hull stock. Look at the Chaffee in relation to the Sherman.... Darrin

RE: I got a Secret
If they can get the gearboxes to fit, It would be a win. Probably need new shortened final axles to account for the narrow hull. Another great feature, The tracks are "double guide horned" so they could be used for several other subjects that have similar sized tracks and the single type road wheels. Oh the possibilities..... I consider myself a scratch builder. All of these projects feature an rc car type drivetrain with a new chassis and completely scratch hull / turret Here is the list: M1117 in 1/12th scale AEC mk III in 1/16th scale LandRover in 1/10th scale Staghound in 1/16th scale (current work in progress)

Curious how the road wheels are holding up and if tracks stay on over grass and dirt. What tracks are you using? I hear the HL metal ones are not bad. Do the pins stay in pretty well? Our battlefield has a lot of rock and sand so it needs to be a good runner to be reliable. Thanks, Darrin
