RE: What Cloth And Resin Used For A Home Made Smoke Tank?
OK. I have a set of cans, West Systems 105 (red) and 205 (blue), if that's not the desired, I'll get something else for this purpose. The tank is a bit comformal.... wide 'L' shaped that will sit on it's back in the plane. Big Mike, I'd like to do it myself, but if I don't have a warm, fuzzy feeling about me laying it up, I'll give you the plaster moulds, filler ring and the cloths.... we'll see. Thanks Mike. [8D] Bill, sweet looking tanks you got there in the thread, nice job... as you always do! [:D]

What Cloth And Resin Used For A Home Made Smoke Tank?
As the title says, I'm calling on the experience of anyone who has done or knows how to do this. I know how to make a plug and plaster mould, I'm but not sure of what size fiberglass cloth and type/brand of resin and what to coat the mould with prior to the lay-up. I'm itching to create a larger smoke oil tank. [8D]

RE: Maine Jet Rally
What an event!! This show paralleled or exceeded Frank Tiano's FJ event. The big name pilots, vendors, Horizon Hobbies on-site 'store', demonstrations, spectators, after hours dinner.... etc. Thank you Ray, Horizon Hobbies, Sandford Municipal airport and the 100+ volunteers for a most memorable event!

RE: Jet flying near Springfield Mass?
Paved runways for models in the New England area will be a rare find. Jet flying for us guys is typically done at jet rallies (full scale airports w/ paved runways). I'm in central MA, so fields/clubs are not too far from me. Let me know when/where you'll be when you visit... Clubs are much closer to Springfield than Plum Island airport (North Shore)

RE: AMA to close the AMA Discussions Forum
Here is a cut from a comment made by a moderator on the AMA forum..... "Honestly, if I was on the EC or Pres of the AMA, I'd do all I could to get most of you out of the AMA for good, as you do nothing but put forth a bad showing of what the AMA is about, and drive away more people that you bring in." .... not very good leadership skills, IMHO of course.

RE: Llow time turbines for sale - Beware
Rust. A majority or the source could be how/where it's stored. A basement or humid cellar will find turbine bearings/races quite tasty, given enough time.

That sux, especially with the engine having very little time. Bob Wilcox is obviously making an effort to go easy on your wallet. BTW, when you hear about 'Lifetime Warranties' for turbine engines, it's really not what you think it is.... read up on the fine print.

RE: Reaction X issue
It will come off, just gently work it loose with light shock hits. FYI, I've seen this problem one time.... Once you begin using/flying your Reaction, tighten the hex bolt LIGHTLY to secure the nosecone. It doesn't have to be cranked tight, if it's too tight, the fixed securing plate glued in the airframe's nose will break away. ... Just a few words of wisdom. [;)]

RE: BVM Jets Photo and RC Plane Bomber
ORIGINAL: Airplanes400 What I really can't stand is this new generation of cry-babies that was formed because of the internet. I'm talking about people who feel the need to 'blog', write, or complain about things like this and bring it to a public forum. It was a conversation between you and BV, and it should have stayed that way. But because one cry-baby didn't his way, he goes public with his trivial matter! Art, if you are married, would you like it if every time your wife disagrees with you, or vise-versa, she not only tells her family, but also puts the details of the disagreement on her facebook page for all the world to see? Would you be happy with her for doing that? Well, that is EXACTLY what you just did! So, now you further made Bob Violet dislike you. The paranoia that drove you to call him in the first place, is ridiculous. Secondly, your cry-baby rantings on this forum did not get you any friends or supporters here. You lost all respect.
Geez Jimmy, did ya get that 'tough guy' feeling, kicking him while he's down?? ... I'm sure he got the message from the first page. [8|]

RE: Smoke system question
ORIGINAL: kimhey One other thing, I believe I red somewhere that turning on smoke while the engine is at idle is a bad idea (for the turbine). If so, does that apply for both on ground and airborne? Thanks for any reply:)
Your smoke tank could be mounted just a little too high to prevent oil 'siphoning' down the line. Fire?.... It's not a problem for the engine, but could be for the airframe. Turning on the smoke oil during a low throttle setting could ignite the oil to a fireball.... This 'fire' event happens to me once in a while, for my airframe, it's not a problem. The loud sound of the fire does turn a few heads. :)

RE: Ultra lights
I'm not familiar with recreational/ultralight aircraft rules, but any plane can land at a field (R/C field or private strip) without consent ...... if that aircraft is experiencing power/control problems. ... In other words, it better be an emergency if they're landing.
