OS FS70S Plumbing??
All, I picked up an OS FS70S and am ashamed to admit I'm clueless about the pressure fitting on the bottom of the engine. Can someone enlighten me as to the plumbing for this fitting? Thanks a Ton

RE: Don Lien 80" Hellcat Build
I have struggles long and hard on a method of hinging the elevators to the stab. I started by using hardwood dowels as hard points on the TE of the stab and epoxied them in place. Worked great and was a no brainer. I then decided to cut pockets out in the elevators and insert some hardwood blocks to accept the hinge points. I used Gorilla Glue on the blocks. Big mistake. The stuff started expanding and now I have glue oozing all over the place and clogging up the holes for the hinges. I ended up sticking pieces of piano wire in the hinge holes so I know where to drill them out later. Last time I try using this method.

Glad to see your back in the saddle Paul. Cool plane to put your fan to use in. Sorry I haven't shipped your stuff back yet. Been busy. I'll get it out next week. I'll be keeping an eye on your progress. Doug

RE: Don Lien 80" Hellcat Build
Finished up the rudder framing. It still needs to be sanded to an airfoil shape but first I need to sheet and install the trailing edge on the fin. I used blue tape as a hinge and glued the sheeting together with Titebond. Stacked the sheets with waxed paper and use a piece of plywood to hold the flat while the glue drys.

Got the engine aligned and the holes drilled for the engine. I cut 1/2" too much off the front of the fuse so I had to block up the mount.
ORIGINAL: hellcat56 Wish I could be more helpful but I never have even looked a the recommended throws on any plane
Thanks Lawrence. Here's a thought. I'm guessing the throws would be about the same as your Zcat. Maybe the next time you take her out, you could measure them and let me know what they are. Might be a good place to start. Thanks, Doug

Tonight I cut the front off of the fuse. Used the part I cut off as a template to make a new firewall. Tacked it in place with some CA and poured some 30 min. epoxy around it with some glass cloth for strength. Man, what a mess.
ORIGINAL: FLYPUCK
ORIGINAL: Chad Veich I wonder if the configuration shown in your picture is a partial flap setting or something. Chad Veich cvnkv@aol.com
That would tend to make sense of it. Good observation.
I happened upon a F6F training video from the 40's I'm guessing. It stated that there were only 2 positions for the flaps, full up or full down

RE: Don Lien 80" Hellcat Build
ORIGINAL: Chad Veich The Hellcat actually uses a slotted flap and I have an old RCSM article on how to accomplish this on the Lien Hellcat. Lots of fiddling to get it right but it looks fantastic. I can send you a scan of the article if you're interested. The posted pic looks odd as I have never noticed the difference in deflection between the inboard and outboard flaps before. Wonder if that is just a byproduct of the operating linkage or if it was purposely designed to work that way?
I'm not sure what the deal is with that flap. Just looks really odd to me. If you wouldn't mind scanning the article, that would be great. Thanks for the help Chad! =Doug=

RE: Don Lien 80" Hellcat Build
Ran into my first major problem with the firewall today. This kit was designed to use a ST-2500 for power. Hence the funky firewall set-up. I tryed mounting the engine to it and the prop was sticking out Waaaaay past the end of the cowl. Also, the magnito on the engine would be so far foward that I would basicly have to destroy the divider between the upper and lower openings of the cowl. I figure I have to drop the firewall 1-1/2" from it's present location to get the engine to fit correctly. I took a straight edge across the exsisting firewall and marked a line 1-1/2" down all the way around. This is where I figure the firewall needs to be. I invite any and all opinions on if this is the correct way to fix the problem and any suggestions anyone might have before I start cutting. PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks
ORIGINAL: LDM I will look it up for yuo , looks like that flap is a flowler (spell check ) but its moved out as well as down , it can and has been successfuly imitated in models
Right you are LDM. Single slot Fowler. I've just never seen one go so far out without moving down. They can be replicated pretty easily with the proper hinging. Although not a true Fowler, they look pretty convincing.
ORIGINAL: US185Damiani FlyPuck, Indeed you are half correct, A Hellcat has a Triangular shaped door attached to the Gear leg, but no door over the tire itself.
Then I guess the most scale thing to do is cut the door short of the wheel and leave it open under the wheel. Thanks for the input.

RE: Don Lien 80" Hellcat Build
ORIGINAL: LDM Turn over the curve so you can cut from the inside out and cut slowly so that you get the smallest , straightest cut possible
Thanks for the tip LDM. I'm not quite sure what to do with the TW door. It appears that on the full scale the front of the door goes up into the fuse and it has a smaller one behind the wheel. I'm not sure how that works. I may end up just leaving a hole where the wheel is or hinging some split doors. Take a look at the pic. Also, the outboard flap. What's up with that??
