RE: Need opinions on Mach One
It's going to be faster than your Super Kaos with the thin leading edge, but should be nothing to worry about...lands at a reasonable speed. Thing to watch for is weight. The original Midwest kit had you basically build a balsa log and whittle a fuselage from that. Unless the builder was careful, it was easy to wind up with a brick. As with just about every plane, you may want to use some minimal mixes to get the thing to trim out to your liking.

RE: Pipe for DLE 35 RA
ORIGINAL: vatechguy3 bump... got a pipe a header for this engine yet? tony
I just got this for the DLE 35RA: http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/JMB40REHEADER-25.html Got it from Troybuilt...$35.00...not bad. It' made for a ZDZ40 Rear Exhaust and they have a straight, as well as the 25mm drop down header. I was fully expecting to have to mill an adapter plate but it turns out that the mounting hole alignment is perfect...don't have to do anything to mount it up. May open the pipe flange a bit to more closely match that of the motor exaust port as it looks a bit restrictive. Going to put it and a ES Composites 40cc pipe in an old Piedmont Focus II that currently has a YS140DZ in it. Need to lengthen the pipe tunnel a bit. Weight & performance should be interesting.

RE: post some pictures of your pattern plane!!
ORIGINAL: MTK
ORIGINAL: papaone Hello RM We uses muffler sold with the engine. But it is too noisy. We are looking for a cheap canister or exhaust tuned pipe.
Claude, the Mintor 38cc is all aluminum and is reasonably priced. I paid around 115$ US for mine purchased from the Area 51 UK distributor. The header is the same as used on the OS140RX which Tower sells for about 50$ US. It needs a little modification to fit the PTE36 (I have a PTE36 also and it will go into a Vanquish ). I am curious as to which prop you are using on the PTE36
That OS140RX header lists for $75.99 at Tower. Going to try this from Troybuilt $35.00: http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/JMB40REHEADER-25.html Going to try either the DLE 35R or PTE36 with an ES 40cc carbon pipe in an old Piedmont Focus II as a test bed. Both engines appear to be about equal in weight. Not sure which to go with yet...leaning toward the DLE. I was looking to do something similar with the Vanquish also....How do you plan to work the pipe into it? Did a L'Essence some years ago and had to mold a Carbon Fiber pipe tunnel ....maybe something similar would work on the Vanquish.

RE: Typhoon 2+2
ORIGINAL: impactiq Here a little inside.
I remember seing that Gator RC ad from back then. I forgot about the reference to the "MV1 Typhoon" . Jim at RC City apparently has the 909sq. in and 1000sq. in. versions. I need to look at the 2+2 plans to see the difference in the 1,140sq. in. wing. Jim thinks that the fuselage is the same for all of them and the wing area is the only difference. Can anyone verify that?

Typhoon 2+2
Not sure if this is the proper place to post this. Was on the RC City Website. This site is currently under construction and seems to be unavailable at times. I saw that a Typhoon 900 and Typhoon 1000 were listed. The Typhoon 2+2 available years ago through Gator RC is my all time favorite plane. I still have a Typhoon 2+2 with a Nomex fuselage. Jim Graham from RC City and I are trying to determine the differences between the Typhoon 900, 1000, and 2+2. I'm not at all familiar with the 900 or the 1000. I do remember a Typhoon 2000?....and then a possibly a "FASCINATION" after that? I still have the Typhoon 2+2 plans from Gator RC. Jim seems to think that the Typhoon 1000 is the same fuselage as the 2+2 with the wings being slightly different. This was a very popular design years ago....hopefully there are some of you out there that are familiar with the different itterations of this aircraft. Your input to help fully identify the 2+2 would be appreciated.

RE: What happens if arf and kit building prices meet?
I really get a kick out of these posts in which people refer to themselves as being on "Fixed Incomes". The reality of it is that for the most part we are all on "Fixed Uncomes". Some more, some less, some in school, some retired. Unless you come into an inheritance or win the lottery, your basic income is somewhat fixed. Maybe the only other option would be to get a part time job to supplement the hobby addiction.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
I was having trouble starting mine before the first flight of the day. Took something like over 60 flips to get it to pop with the choke on. I think it just doesn't have a strong fuel draw on choke. I have a fueling "T" in the line from the tank to the carb. I now fuel the tank until it spills a little bit out of the vent. Without removing the fueling line, I close the choke and with the ignition off, flip the prop 4-5 times. Disconnect the fueling line, turn the ignition on and flip with the choke on. It usually pops in a few flips. open the choke and its starts withing 4-5 flips. Nice thing is it sits sometimes over an hour between flights....it will usually start with one flip...no choke. Great little engine! I think my starting problem was that when I removed the fueling line I introduced air into the line. By choking with the fueling line still connected seems to be a simple fix. Would be interesting to see if this works for you too.

Really like the NGH motors. Have a 25cc....the 58mm made a perfect drop in for a 120 - 140 four stroke motor mount. Was looking at the NGH 35 to replace a YS 140DZ in an old pattern plane.....unfortunately the thing weighs over 10oz. more than the new DLE 35 rear exhaust that is coming out.

Centering Accuracy
I just installed 2 new HS-5645 digital servos in one of my aircraft. I'm dissappointed with the poor centering accuracy. Does anyone know what the typical factory default deadband setting is? I don't want to spend money on a programmer if the deadband is already optimized. Not sure if the issue is deadband or slop in the gear train.

RE: FrSky HV receiver question
The receiver is rated between 3-16vdc. Just use your regular battery pack and it will work fine. I use mine with 2 LiPo cells 7.4vdc, but you have to use servos that will work with that voltage level.

RE: FrSky 2.4gHz. Module/Receiver System - Any Luck??
ORIGINAL: RJConnet I have been flying this system (in a JR 9303) for about three months now. Not a single problem or glitch. After a month I bought another receiver which has also been problem free. The module swap is so easy that I often fly both 72 and 2.4 several times on the same morning with the same Tx........... RJ
I was going to do the same thing.....switch between the new 2.4gHz and existing 72mHz receivers I already have. But, if it all works out, the new 8 channel 2.4gHz receivers are so cheap you can buy a dozen of them for about the price of 2 DSM receivers! I plan of wringing them out in a testbed aircraft before committing to using them on a valuable airframe. Still hard to watch your expensive, perferctly good 72mHz receivers just fall into obsolescent though.

Pattern Box Simulator
I just saw a post on RCU a couple days ago...been all over...can't find it again. Someone posted a link to an Aerofly Sim demo that showed a pattern type plane flying the pattern with horizontal and vertical lines indicating the pattern box. There was also a "Picture in Picture" that showed a closeup of the aircraft so you could see the minute changes of the aircraft flight more closely. Anybody else see that, and if so where is it? I'm really interested in this feature. Is it indeed a standard feature of the Aerofly flight Sim?

RE: Curare Build
ORIGINAL: EJWash1
ORIGINAL: jmb52760 EJ: The sanding sealer is not water based and will not change the shape of the wood. I haven't tried it, but I imagine if you brushed the water based poly on a thin piece of wood it would warp it severely. I've seen this effect on the newspaper that is protecting my building board. I am using microbaloons mixed 50/50 with the poly as the second coat after the glass goes on to fill the weave. It is very easy to sand, and once cured it makes a nice, hard surface.
Mitch, Thanks for the answer. So, the process is: 1- sanding sealer 2- 1/2-oz. fiberglass cloth using 100% poly 3- 50/50 poly/micro balloons Then right to primer, and then paint? I'm a long-time woodworker and tried water-based stain on one project several years ago. NEVER AGAIN!!! Wood + water = movement (swelling, warping, grain raise, etc.). I'll put up with the smell and the non-green guilt. But I will give this method a try in experimentation. It makes sense. EJWash
Wouldn't it be sufficient to just use a base coat of polycrylic as a sanding sealer?
