RE: Nitroplanes Seawind
Sushi, On my Great Planes electric powered Seawind (foam version) I hold full up elevator for the entire take off from water. Works every time. Try it on the NP Seawind and see what happens. Have you waterproofed all your on board electronics: RX, servos, electrical connections?

RE: Nitroplanes Seawind
Hello, I started this thread and have since bought a GP EP Seawind. This is the smaller, foam version. I now have this plane dialed in and it's a joy to fly. Here's what I learned form others. On takeoff from water, hold full up elevator and go to full power quickly. This will stop the bouncing effect. It works for me every time. Perhaps this method will work on the larger Nitro and GP Seawinds as well. Has anyone tried to do an electric conversion on the larger Nitro Seawind? The reason I ask is that electric motors produce far less vibration. The motor pylons in these large Seawinds seem to weaken over time due to extreme glow, motor vibration. Any thoughts, opinions?[8D]

[8D] Rick, Thanks for the info and link to your build thread. Very informative. Do you think .46 engines would be more than enough to power this plane?

[8D] Hey Rick, You said you're running (2) .55's on your KMP CL-215. Who makes the engines? How many minute flights? I'm debating electric vs. glow as electric can get expensive very fast. Beautiful photo of your 215 on step!

RE: Canadair CL-415 by Nitroplanes
[8D] The Canadair CL-415 by Nitroplanes appears not to have wheels and landing gear, but I could be wrong. Why would anyone want to fly this plane from land anyway? Heck, it's a flying boat! Put it in water and go have some real fun! KMP also remarked that they would be coming out with an updated CL-415 to replace their CL-215. KMP's CL-215 also comes with a fiberglass fuse. Possibly the same manufacturer in China? Hmmm, the Nitroplanes CL-415 at $239 is very tempting indeed!! Oh brother, decisions, decisions! Help!

[8D]Hi Sid, It's been awhile since I've checked this thread, but you're really coming along quite nicely. Man that's a lot of airplane and a lot of balsa dust! I know how the motivation thing goes and how one is tempted to put a current project on the backburner when the boredom factor sets in. That's why I have 4 projects in various stages of completion. My problem/enemy right now is no time. My pleasure is watching you guys build these awesome planes. For what it's worth, keep up the great work!!

RE: Nitroplanes Seawind
Foz, Man, I am so sorry for your troubles! That sucks when a plane crashes due to design flaws in the construction process. From watching and reading this thread and the GP Seawind thread I have decided not to purchase these large Seawinds. They just aren't made well. The Seawind shape is so cool and futuristic looking, but I've gotten over that aspect of the plane and have decided this plane is just too problematic. I have the GP electric Seawind made out of foam and that's enough for me.

RE: 2,4 Ghz and float planes
[8D] I use Corrosion X too. Simply submerge it in the liquid type, that's right, submerge it, then wipe it off with a paper towel, then let it sit on the paper towel for a few hours so that most of the Corrosion X is absorbed by the paper towel leaving a film on the receiver. Link http://www.buycorrosionx.com/index.php?app=ccp1&ns=catshow&ref=ProductsCX&sid=45v22ct261117g5usf7uxa7159u00woi You want the 16 oz. trigger spray. It will last you forever. If you're a serious seaplane flyer, you'll want to use Corrosion X at the beginning of every flying season. Also, coat all electrical connections, male and female.

RE: Lanier Mariner 40 MKII ARF 62"
[8D] Beautiful photo Mustang! I have the original Mariner with probably over 200 water flights on it. The fuse has been completely overhauled including stripping all covering, sealing up all lightening holes with sheet balsa, fiberglassing and finally repainting entire fuse. No covering on fuse for me as the maintenance is too high. I'll recover the wings this winter. Plane is a little heavier, but it flies very scale like. Too bad Great Planes bought out Lanier and essentially put all their planes out to pasture. I wanted to purchase a Mariner MK. II, but missed the opportunity. I'll keep flying my Mariner until it literally falls apart. Maybe I'll attempt to draw up a set of plans before it dies! Know where I can score a Mariner MK. II?

[8D] Thanks for the heads up Sid! I was hoping I could find a well made kit for the CL-415 as I just don't have the time to do a scratch built plane from plans. kmp.ca and mraerodesign.ca are options.

RE: RT Models - Canadair Build
[8D] Hi Sid, We meet again! Beautiful job! You're lucky you got your hands on this kit. Beldone models, a Canadian company has since gone out of business. Did you purchase this kit through Canada? Kit looks like it went together fairly well. I'm trying to find a source for this plane in the US, but so far have not had much luck. 2 Canadian companies produce the kit. www.mraerodesign.ca makes one, but it is huge, costs $440.00 for the complete kit. Also, www.kmp.ca makes one with an all fiberglass fuselage, something very desirable in flying boats as they are less likely to leak. I don't know, will have to think about this one. Carry on.

RE: Vintage R/C Plans 9' Catalina PBY-5A
Hi Sid, Fancy meeting you here again and that's a beautiful PBY you built. In reference to Ivan Pettigrew's plans I have started the 72" Short Sealand. I have temporarily shelved it after frustration with the plans as there there are quite a few inaccuracies. From what I've read in other build threads on www.rcgroups.com this is common. Don't get me wrong, Ivan is a great designer and his planes all fly beautifully, but there is a certain level of angst and frustration one must go through to get to the final product. It truly becomes a labor of love. I also have his 72" PBY and Grumman Albatross plans. Some day I'll get the Sealand finished.

RE: Vintage R/C Plans 9' Catalina PBY-5A
[8D] Hi Kevin, Have you ever thought of going electric? All of the issues concerning multi-engined planes including altitude, one engine out and engine synchronicity become meaningless with electric power. There are electric motors and the batteries to power them equivalent in power to .91.'s. Yes, it is more expensive, but if I were building a 9 foot PBY I'd want some kind of insurance against the above mentioned multi-engined problems. Just a thought, but you might want to look into it.

[8D]Hi Sid, Did you purchase your kit, SETRC2052 Sunderland Set from www.myhobbystore.com ? Also, I assume the kit included plans, laser cut formers, ribs and plastic and / or fiberglass parts. Wood for stringers and sheeting I assume needs to be provided by the builder. Is this correct? I sent them an e-mail on international shipping costs. Have to figure out if it's worth it for me to buy the plans only or the kit.

Siddus, Sanding sealer is not water based, but a solvent based product. I've used it before with good results and it will not warp the wood.
