RE: apache owners
Just got back from testing minor mods... no gps but decent speed. 7 minutes of driving and the motors do draw more juice then the t600´s I had in this b4. -lipos were warm and slightly puffed after 3+4 minute runs .After they cooled down they were fine. So I need to get another set of lipos so I can plug them to 2p config. Motors, esc´s about 5o deg. C. So I would say that 6-7minutes per pack is easy to do with this. -and if one would have more batteries to use the time would be better, temps were really low so another 7 minutes would be fine . -2p should give 10-14 minutes of fun so not too bad. >Videos here, unedited this time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKNt2t__uAE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58cgyiBFzxc

RE: apache owners
I have not timed runs yet with these motors. I´ll try to remember that when I drive it next(later today) I think that 5-8 minutes should be close to truth) -a bit slower speeds with smaller props and 6s2p I think it could be driven close to 15 minutes without heat issues .

RE: apache owners
Just wanted to post here also, my Navaho is finally working like planned, cheapo electric setup and over 40mph so far. video [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_RcW4yvf3Q&feature=player_embedded#at=63[/youtube] New 910kv motors and new hk esc´s. No heat issues with 57mm props, 5517/3 propshops made the electrics hot, no more then 2 minute runs possible with them, but using the 57mm plastic ones I can drive the whole battery capacity. So far so good!

[quote]ORIGINAL: Justaddwata Perhaps now is a good time to drop a gas motor in her!! Sorry to see all the smoke - hope nothing too expensive [;)] [/quote] Not yet ready to turn her ic, but getting closer... It was only an esc that went poof, about 40$ worth of chinese engineering[:D] -but if that would have not been mounted on the stainless servo mount there would have been a large burned hole in her! The smell is still unbeliveable, now where did I put that denat.alchohol... need to get that hull clean.

RE: apache owners
Hi all, I just finished my Apache build (well, actually it´s a Navaho, from Mart) hope you dont mind me showing my boat! Twin motors and struts, single rudder. Why would you mind? ... -well It is electric powered, only smoke it produces is proof of poof and I hope it never appears. (again [:D] ) Just returned from the maiden, here is a video [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LShaOtIXJw[/youtube] Had minor problems and too small props so it will be faster one day. Build thread is viewable at OSE if interested to see what this has inside. -Pate

RE: Have I fried my ESC?
I think that your 2200mAh packs are way too small and the discharge current they offer is too low and that is harmful to the esc. (only 55A contin.) It could be fried, if not I would not use these 2200mAh packs again on that boat. Were the batteries hot after the run? The 2200mAh will only give about 1-2 minutes of driving until empty so maybe the motor turns slow because the packs are empty. Just charge and try again(using 5000mAh 4s). I dont own BJ26,but I guess it is about the same size and spec as sv27 and it needs better then 2200mAh(ok a cat but the electronics are similar) The spark thing ... -that happens every time the battery is connected to the esc and it is normal (unless the thing fries connectors) and more volts ,bigger spark. There is a fix if you want to get rid of that spark http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1229558 And I recommened that you loose the Deans and solder 5.5mm bullets on, it will handle the Amps way better. -Pate

RE: apache owners
Hey all, I have my first Apache on it´s way from Mart. (well, a Navaho but I guess it´s close enough! ) I will build it to use blue smoke, hope you dont mind me asking few q´s here at the gas section. I would like to get scale looking exhaust outlets for it(4) and thinking what size ones you guys use and if you have a picture of them installed on your apache then that would be great! Thinking that this is too small http://www.toughracing.com/zc126d/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=93 This maybe too big http://www.toughracing.com/zc126d/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6_21&products_id=135 I will use them as water outlets so the first one I linked would be really easy but is it going to look tiny on 57" hull? I have looked through this thread many times and the white "warpath" exhaust outlets looks about the style I´m after. Thanks, next I will finish my friends boats(deltaforce 33,fastech and finnsport). after that I guess I´ll make outboard powered sportboat. The fasteck and finnsport projects are updated at offshoreelectrics dot com forums, threads named "fastec z-drive" and "finnsport " Search for them at OSE if you like to see something new [:D] -or just search under user "fastvee" over there.(I belive that linking to the threads is not allowed here) the deltaforce project is viewable under user matti1983 threads at OSE. -Pate

RE: Making the HK Princess boat more realistic
Because it is wired that way[:)] -this only has 1600kv motor and 120A esc that is rated 3s, so there is no need for 2 packs in series like on Sv and other fast boats.(and there is no need for 2 packs on faster boats eighter, 2 are used because the weight balance is easier to get correct using 2 packs (one on both side)s then one in front -usually.) The battery is mounted front of the motor, so twice the battery=twice weight on front so it would nose dive more on 2x 3s.(or 2x 2s) I plan on installing the batteries(2x 5000mAh 2s1p packs paraller) to the back of the hull so it would have 7.4v 10.000mAh =loong runtime. The stock esc has Deans(or copy) on it and it never gets warm, so the motor is not Amp hungry. And yes, I will update this thread when I get the parts ordered installed(will be here next week). -Pate

RE: Making the HK Princess boat more realistic
If you swap the esc to turnigy 180Amp marine(or other better one) ,you could use 4s on stock motor and it would fly! -I dont know would the stock esc handle 4+ cells. -and you would have reverse too! -messes with the realism when a boat only goes forward... The stock prop is really weird shaped, but it is 40mm, so maybe a [link]http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=Carbon+Props[/link]Graupner 42 to 45mm would work well. If you have 3/16 brass tube you could use the 3/16 props on it(like the ones on SV) ,by doing [link]http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/info-pages/fit-propellers.php[/link]this There are few videos of the princess with led´s and they look cool.

RE: Making the HK Princess boat more realistic
Verado, the reason for these mods is simple: I want it to look and move like a real boat. The stock flex/driveshaft combo is rubbish and the propeller included has too large hole, it wobbles like crazy(4mm shaft and 3/16 prop). Proper .150 fle shaft with 3/16 propshaft fixed that. Here is a video of it on 2s,stock prop and on wot at some points. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgbO-sD5mfk no gps readings, but i belive it is close to 20mph on 2s the esc is rated 3s so It is capable of faster speeds then you see on video. The propellers I have ordered for this are sub surface ones, so less pitch and smaller dia. I have many fast boats, this one will become slow relaxing cruiser with long run times.

Making the HK Princess boat more realistic
Hi all! I recently purchaced the Princess boat from Hobbyking. [image]http://rc10.fi/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=28067.0;attach=12676;image[/image] It is allmost ok boat in stock form, but not really scale looking/working. Short video of it on 2s and SV27 strut/cable.(and half throttle, it would spray huge rooster at wot) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UcHmu8rg7A I started to mod it a bit. Surface piercing prop had to go, the rooster tail it made was massive. I removed the strut and rudder, filled the holes and cut small hole at the bottom of the hull. [image]http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/prev/img2648014.jpg[/image] Then I made the stuffing tube and a piece of ply to strenghten it. [image]http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/iso/img2648010.jpg[/image] Added a piece of styrene to get the shape correct, filled with epoxy. [image]http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/iso/img2648011.jpg[/image] Then some fiberglass filler and sanded it to shape and hitted it with primer. [image]http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/iso/img2648013.jpg[/image] Then I painted the stern white and the bottom to satin black(to look like antifouling paint) [image]http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/prev/img2648015.jpg[/image] Modified a servo to continuously rotate and attached that to the radar using drive dogs,2mm shaft and 4mm brass tube. The table(styrene) rises with the hatch and hides the moving bits when lowered. [image]http://kuvablogi.com/nayta/iso/img2648036.jpg[/image] First radar test http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5dYAWkVntc Now I´m waiting parts from Cornwall modelboats(rudder,propeller,anchor,chain,fenders...) so I can get it back to water. -Pate

RE: which on board camera
I have that MP10/Grayson/gum camera with 4GB card. It takes ok video, but the dam counter/time stamp is annoying...the seconds go way too fast(according to the counter, one minute of video lasts 2 minutes! -and I cant turn that thing off! (I tried it exactly how the instructions told to do) Mine would not charge and XP would not recognize it until I changed the usb wire to better one and it started to charge and Xp recognizes it now ,so try that if you have charging difficulties. If some one could help me with the time stamp thing ,I would appreciate it!

RE: Super Tune Your Super Vee 27
keithbradley , couple of thoughts here. -Do you use teflon liner? -correctly lubed flex shaft? -stock coupler? -few mm gap between strut and drive dog? What I´m thinking here is some of these could be to blame here. The stock coupler slips(mine did) on hi-power applications and that could spin around that flex and heat it and wear it. -I use octura couplers and they work better. The strut/DD gap is important, will keep the drive line smooth and the motor bearings and shaft will last longer. Teflon liner will add drag, i run mine w/o one(using smaller stuff tube) The coupler would be the thing I would change first and go from there. I have NEVER broken a flex shaft. .150 should be fine on yours. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=ose-svcable -I make my own cables, but this one is still better then the stock one. (sv cable has 4mm threads, this has 3/16, so you will need new nyloc or bullet nuts http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=oct-oc6pnmm ) http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=oct-ocfhe5mm15 -i use this one. I use only metar props, they are smoother(when sharped and balanced), but carbon ones work too. The 48mm one may be too much for the stock coupler to hold..and it slips. -was it too much for the motor/esc? (heat issues) Pate

RE: Super Tune Your Super Vee 27
Little bit of OT here, but I just wanted to show you all that the SV parts are good, even when you are fed up with the boat because the leaks and flips ... So If you are thinking of upgrading, concider a new hull. My version of the sv here. [image]http://kuva1.kuvablogi.com/iso/img2188334.jpg[/image] [image]http://kuva1.kuvablogi.com/iso/img2188370.jpg[/image] And a little video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wguZ9He_EU The hull is Delta Force 29 copy. And the strut, rudder and electronics are from sv. No trim tabs or turn fins needed on this hull.

RE: Super Tune Your Super Vee 27
Thanks 4 the info guys. Just found the stocker for 59 on ose, still bit too much(shipping it over seas is expensive) I think that I´ll try changing bearings on this rustbucket and give it a try.(it was working fine, opened it to check the bearings and DAM!) -the parts are cleaned( and few other mods) , looked worse b4 [image]http://kuva1.kuvablogi.com/iso/img2056497.jpg[/image] Is there any reason not to use clutch bell bearings on motors?(ceramic), the size this needs is 5x10x4 The reason I would like to stick with stock can is that I have ordered df 29 hull and will put sv parts on it, and I think that ammo and other hop up motors are too much for the esc using larger hull This is one motor I was looking at http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6678&Product_Name=KD36-74-09XL_1900kv_Brushless_Inrunner -dunno what the esc got to say of this...(poof) looks familiar.. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=5421 -think different colored can... http://kuva1.kuvablogi.com/iso/img2056497.jpg
