RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD
well just about any hobby shop in the us will be able to get you the steel gears, the top gear is steel i think in the later black chassis models but if not you can get that as well i got to ask why you want the slash chassis? its so iky and not cool you can buy the new style tranny case molded in black as well so if you want to keep it looking old skewl you can rock that as well

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD
ORIGINAL: Candre23 Not one to do things half way, I ordered an aluminum gearbox, steel idler, steel-ring dif, metal spur, and a CVD kit. Hopefully removing all plastic from the drivetrain will allow it to hold up to (what I thought was) a low-end BL kit. What do you guys suggest for dif oil?
well the diff isnt sealed so you cant really use diff oil (although flm or rcmonster does make one) but for grease i like PTFE model train lube its safe on plastics and is just thick enough to get some nice diff action if you want to lock it up you can get some chunks of dry shoogoo or silicone sealent and just jam it in there it will still slip a bit but not much

a mini lipo set will work fine if you got a 2s in one compartment and a 1s in the other you can get that thing really moving

RE: time for some night racing
peeshaw, i run my cars at night all the time, its actualy when i do the most running. your eyes adjust and for the most part your able to see everything, and if its in an urban area than there should be enough light to get you by. the only thing i suggest is set up 2 lights to tell if its going towards you or away from you. both on the right hand side for example so that if its going away the light is on the right, if its going towards you the light is on the left a light to iluminate whats in front of you is kind of pointless, its not like your in the car or anything, if its a road you play on every day youll know where the curb is

RE: Rustler VXL or Slash 4x4
the slash 4x4 is a bit needy on the maintnence side as far as the drive line from what ive read. where as the rusty is all around idiot proof, had my pede (same tranny, bulk, etc) for 11 years and its still going (sort of) the 4wd is a major plus though depending on your point of view and driving style and surface. if setup right a 2wd stadium truck can handle as good as 4wd truck but thats not something most beginners are able to do (no offense).

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD
maybe add a single "half" or "full" sized preload spacer on the rear and tighten up the slipper a quarter turn and youll be able to wheely easier, you may also want to add a half sized spacer in the front shocks as well if your jumping pretty good sized stuff. can your plane chargers handle 6/7c nimhs? or only lipos? (asuming that is your fly electric planes and not nitro) whats great about pedes imo is that you can do a lot with them, they are really simple and really tough so your imagination is your only limit as to what you can do

RE: 17.5 brushless for short course
well off the top of my head novak, lrp, tekin to name a few. in a spec class a good motor will go a long way so i would not cheap out (as im sure ppl will tell you to) heres a-mains listings, they should have most of these same motors on tower as well so just cross refrence part numbers for anything your interested in (avoid trinity and the other motors that look alike, imo they are crap) http://www.amainhobbies.com/advanced_search_result.php?n=RC-Cars-Trucks-Electric-Motors-ESCs-1-10-Electric-Motors&filter_cat=222&keywords=17.5 tower http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=17.5+ also, cxheck craigs list, ebay and the track for anyone getting rid of a motor, normaly the track will have really good deals (if they are cool and not hard *****)

RE: Hyper7-E conversion
ive heard great things from them, i think a few guys at my track run them but the hot motor/esc setup around the country are the tekin and cc setups, check out kershaw designs, you could even dump in a 700ho brushed motor for very low green and have just as much fun http://204.186.93.64/index.htm (go to the bottom of the products page)

RE: Hyper7-E conversion
unless your track or club specificly allows only roar approved gear id run it. the only fault is that the novaks are not true 1/8th systems like the tekin or mamba's which are way more potent as well (not to say the novaks are not beasts in there own right) "ROAR Aprroved" dont mean a thing except that you can or can not run it at a big event that falls under IFMAR or ROAR juristiction. if your just a club worrior than roar doesnt give 2 craps about it also i would try nitro for a while or atleast give it a try, nitro is fun[:D]

RE: Nitro Hawk build
quick update, its got a wing and since im the greatest vintage traxxas builder of my own mind it also acts to eliminate the crazy bad wooble in the rear shock tower mount which is really bad even factory new. the hpi hellfire wing mount bolted right up, no drilling needed there, only 2 holes needed to be drilled and they were for the brace on the back of the chassis

well more because i can than anything else, and to scale stuff i could not scale with a conversional pede. technicly speaking for offroad racing and regular bashing a independaent suspension is far better than a solid axle

RE: OFFICAL PEDE THREAD
its some axle from axial, got it from a buddy so i cant say for certain but i want to say the ax10, ill get back to you on that edit: yup, just texted my buddy. and confirmed it on tower myself (hes a bit absent minded sometimes) it needs a lot of refinement and tunning not to mention a body and the right rear tires, ive been flip-flopping about where ill end up with this project but i think ill make it into my dedicated beach menace/trail truck since when i was testing it tonight it managed to climb some stuff that i thought was only the realm of 4wd trucks. the front and gearing i got pretty lucky, dind have any trouble with temps either

what to do with burnt out titan's
well if your like me youve gone through a few titans for whatever reason and now your like me stuck with all these hunks of metal [sm=confused_smile.gif] but instead of throwing them out heres a few things to give them new life. [sm=thumbup.gif] paper weight, obvious yes, but still very much a good idea. need that pesky... screw?... hammered in, dont worry you've got an old friend sitting at arms reach, just make sure its not still holding down that paper. need a soldering iron stand cuz you left yours at the track? well here ya go! it works great and can easily fit in you pit box when your done! and of course you could just squeez it and use all your mind's power to try and make it explode in your hand. or do it the fun, healthy way... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4IW02PmAto no good motors were harmed in the making of this thread[:D] thought we could use a laugh or 2 on here

RE: How hot can it go?!?!?!?
ORIGINAL: TheyDontWantMusic
ORIGINAL: overrev A hot tub is 104 so 130 would be to hot for taking a bath. You should shoot for temps about 120 to 160 on motor and esc. and about 90 to 110 on battery
my cup of coffee that I'm holding and drinking is 125 degrees. you can easily hold that temperature,
are we playing with the temp gun right now?[:)] i will sit there and temp stuff all day at the track (probably why i go through those stupid little disk batts like hard candy) one time a guy called a local pizza place and ordered a few pies, and of course atleast 4 of us were there temping the pie's to mess with the poor kid[:D][:D][:D] all joking aside i notice i can guess temps pretty good nowadys, more than likely because i had a refrence with the temp gun so i know how hot the temp feels (120 is the most acurate guess for me normaly since i had nimh race packs that were not supposed to go over 120df)

RE: aluminum a arms bending?
cf is great for a lot of things in a lot of places but for things like a 1/8th truggy main chassis plate your dancing with disaster. now for small parts and plates its great stuff. have a cf radio tray i fabbed up for my truggy and i had the sbv2 pro for a short time (about 80% cf buggy), my srt has replica shock towers made from cf and the chassis is intireely made of plastic and g10 fiberglass. (can you tell i have a thing for cf?[:)]). my only gripe with carbon fiber is how much of a task it is to work with, its messy as hell and frays if not good quality stuff or its hand laid. compared to g10 with is a great materiel to work with, clean, easy to cut, very little wear on bits. when you say bulk head what do you mean like a solid chunck of cf or like a upper steering bulkhead/plate on a 1/8th rig?
