RE: Sig 1/4 J3 Kit converted to PA-18 Super Cub (Build)
You built it well the first time. Any less craftsmanship would have had more damage for sure. I knew you were not gonna toss it. I didn't expect you to start back on it so soon, but she's a beauty, needs to get back in the air. Looking good. Neuport is too.

Glad to hear that you are gonna repair it. Nice to see the covering off to get another glimpse of the craftsmanship.

I know its disheartening, but that is not bad at all. You just need a break from it. I have a friend that flies (tries to anyway) he crashes all the time and has me repair them. If I was close to you I would fix it for you. Would be a shame to toss it after all the work you put into it.

It looks great SDP. Needs a pilot so it doesnt look like a possessed piece of machinery. Im sure the pic and movies don't do it justice. Im looking forward to seeing the Nieuport build.

RE: T-38 Talon 3-views and cross sections
Hello Butch, I am interested in the 3D files. Been watching B1 Bob and have a lot of time on my hands since I been out of work, so thinking about scratch building a T-38 to keep me out of trouble. I send you an email already but didn't get a response. My email is bassman2003@earthlink.net I have SolidWorks (prefered) but can also use TurboCAD. Thanks, Garry

RE: Sig 1/4 J3 Kit converted to PA-18 Super Cub (Build)
I think you are just confusing yourself. The two pictures you selected that inspired you for the paint scheme (same aircraft with the red horizontal stab) show the small numbers on the tail. Then you show two different aircraft, one exactly like the one that inspired you (red stab with small numbers on the tail, except on floats), and one with a similar paint scheme (that does not have a red horizontal stab and large numbers on the fuselage) You aren't designing a paint scheme for full size aircraft, nor altering one that needs to comply with FAA regulations (unless you think you can fit inside and fly it yourself) I think you had already decided on the small letters on the tail (that's why you originally picked the paint scheme that inspired you), and now are trying to confuse yourself (and everyone else) by looking at a different plane. You HAVE been painting, maybe you should check the filters on your paint mask (they may need replacing), or you haven't shaven in a week and the mask isn't making the proper seal and you are breathing in to much fumes and it is altering your judgement. But then again, you have changed power plants three time now.

it looks like the one with the small numbers on the vertical stab on the float plane, the horizontal stab is red. On the other one with the large numbers on the fuse, the horizontal stab is the cream color Looking great, awesome work

RE: Building a Dynaflite Super Decathlon
I'm still watching here. I am finishing up an electric 80" Extra 300s that I am building for a friend. I have a Senorita that I want to build and modify before I start my Super Decathlon. I am planning on using a Fuji BT-34EIS. I don't like the way he muffler sits at an angle so I am trying to figure out how to design a different muffler so the exhaust comes out more even and symmetric. Are you planning on lightening up the tail? Im looking forward to the rest.

RE: Another Blue Angel build
Wondering, with my Tipo instructions, they give an explaination on fixing a warped wing by cutting a slice it the sheeting then squeegeing some epoxy in the resulting crack after twisting the wing to compesate. Of course I have not even built my Tipo yet, but in doing that way, you would only have to refinish one aileron surface.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
ORIGINAL: fujiman i'm buried money wise with mine so i have to finish it now!!!! mine is the rtc. version because i'm changing the plane into a reno style racer. went with the after market cowl (no nose droop) with the proper sized spinner and exhaust, foam wing with proper dihedral angle, sierra retracts converted to electric, 1/5 scale formula canopy, truturn spinner, brillilli 366 60cc gasser converted to run gas/glow no ign. and no extra batt. pack, tad more power, 20x12 prop, built up belly scoop (not plastic), proper horizonal stab. relocation kit, servo operated robart retract tail gear. modify vert. stab./rudder to H model (a tad taller like ''precious metal'' racer), chrome monocote on fuse. black wings top and checkered board bottom, black horizonal and black trim, i'm not using the kits wing fillet, i'll make my own as they will be modified. the plane will be named ''JANIE'S GUN'' (rolling stones song) as it will be featured in a dvd i'm putting together, (flying put to music). so you see there's no turning back now!!!!!!!!![:@] anyone need parts i'm not using let me know, i'll make you a good deal. i have a list.
I have never heard of that song unless you are talking about Janie's Got A Gun, which is by Aerosmith. What album is it on? It seems to me that you rag on this model a lot. It's never to late to sell it and go for something that you consider better. You could always trade someone or buy a built up TF GS P-51. I think if you buy an ARF and expect it to be perfect you are setting your expectations to high as most ARF are built by people that probably not modelers and just do what someone shows them. I don't like ARF's myself for the fact that you get it together and it crashes and then think, "well, I would have reinforced that because now that I see it in a pile of wood chips, that could have been reinforced." They dont really take any time selecting the right wood and sometimes have the wrong grain for the wrond places. Something about flying something you put together from a bunch of sticks gives you a sense of accomplishment. Myself, I would go with a Composite 1/4 scale if I had the money, BUT, I am planning on getting the TF GS P-51 to use as a practice flier as almost everyone says they fly great if they are balanced right and not underpowered. I do understand your frustration, although with all the mods you are doing anyway, you should have gotten the kit. Just my opinion. Good luck on completing your model as I am sure it will be better than the ARF by far in the long run. Anyway, this is a great thread. Lots of heads up as to what you can do to make this plane more durable and pointing out things to look out for. Lots of troublshooting tips, and great pics of everyone's planes too.

RE: F3A plans
No need to convert the files. they are in the proper form, you just have to rename the file extension. When you go to save it, Use "Save As" and where it says .txt in the name, rename it with .dwg so it will be called Attachment.dwg for the second file, and the third file will be renamed Attachment.dxf

RE: Another Blue Angel build
if it is tail heavy then you need a heavier engine, or split the battery pack and move 1 or 2 cells forward if its nose heavy by 1.5 oz then the liner would do it I think, but if you are saving 2 oz then you may need to move the battery a little also

RE: Anyone have a set of Great Planes Illusion plans
Here is pic of what I bought. I thought it was a good deal. Came with the os motor, pipe, spring air retracts, pump, pushrods and tank. I picked it up for $335 shipped. It has the pipe under and the nose gear looks like it may be just a tad off center. I got some documentation with it. Not sure about the painted over covering. I think he said it was coverite. Needs to have the air lines redone for the retracts. Would like to have the plans on hand for reference because it needs a few things. I do have the instructions thoough. Seems similar to instructions for my Tiporare.

Anyone have a set of Great Planes Illusion plans
I just picked up a Great Planes Illusion from someone and I need a set of plans. pdf would be great is anyone has them. I will post some pics when I get some time to start work on it. It has plastic covering on the wings and the stab that have been preped and primered. I am trying to decide weather I should lleave it or remove it and either re-do it with covering or glass and paint it.

RE: Spray Painting
I just re-read your original post. Are you using rattle cans for priming? if so, that looks like you need to shake your can more because it is picking up clumps of solids. Keep your cans on their sides to keep the paint off the bottom and shake them for about 5-10 minutes past hearing the ball ringing completely clean against all surfaces in the can. Change the directions you shake it in every now and then to make sure you have it mixed thoroughly before spraying

RE: Spray Painting
I agree that you shouldnt use 1200 on the primer coat. 400-600 wet with a few drops of dawn to give it tooth and clean it, then rinse with clean water and let air dry. 1000 and up are for fixing your topcoat. I am usually fairly lucky that I get a good finish and only seldomly have to sand out some contaminants that happen to settle on the finish. I usually use 1500 for the top coat before buffing if I have to. anyway, That works for me.

RE: Spray Painting
Orange peel comes from spraying onto a wet coat where the new droplets make little splashes in the wet coat and make a dimpling effect, or the paint being the wrong viscosity and not leveling properly. The one pic looked like it was sprayed too dry to me and leaves a rough finish. Fish eye is from contaminants either in the paint or on the surface(usually wax, oil, grease, or silicone). If its the primer coat I would sand it down. You may have to adjust your spray distance or amount of solvant to adjust for your temp or humidity. When I paint, I spray somewhat thin to get coverage or color on the surface then a wet coat rather than trying to get a wetcoat each time. I also spray along high spots first and then as I painit the rest of the area so that it gets a little more paint. Just takes practice mostly. I found that when I wet sand, I use a detergent with the water I am using that basically cleans any greese or oil off the surface. Also every few passes swirl your paint paint gun a round a little to keep the solids in the paint/primer dispersed in the solvent. if it isnt completely mixed you can have different viscosities throughout the same container. you can add a ball bearing or marble to sort of stir the can as you swirl it. Just make sure they will not plug your pickup tube. oh, and always use a strainer. They are cheap and help to keep your paint consistant and uncontaminated.

FLAWS? I want to see. Point them out when you make a fly-by. I use 72mhz also. I have a JR 7202 Air, and a JR PCM 10 heli. Awesome radios. Both are synthesized and have many crystals and synth recievers too. Never had a any radio problems yet. Less people on that band now too. Im getting jealous. I am going to have to build a BA soon I think.

Garden Schmarden. Personally I think it would look best in its natural element. Gear tucked in during a low flybywith just a hint of a tilt to the wings as it waits for the next manuver. Your BA looks great. Awesome worksmanship.

RE: Mods: Where did the thread on
Copyright works the same for Music as it does for material object. (35 years in the music industry holding many copyrights and 6 CD's to my credit) The only person that a copy rights to something, is the original creator. Copyrights and patents do not last forever either. If someone lays claim to something under copyright, those rights have to be transfered and official documentation needs to be filed. That is a contract that has to be binded by a monitary contract. The copyright forms have in them if it is a transfer, of a modification of a pre-existing registered copyright. Bottom line is that this plane has not been kitted and is unavailable. Unless someone bought the original molds with a transfer of rights form, then the rights still belong to the original creator. That is why copyrights for songs are bought such as the rights to the Beetles songs, known as catalogs. Also why bands that write music, transfer the rights to their music to the record label in exchange for points on sales and royalties. Also at a certain point when the manufacture of something is discontinued, parts can be replicated by anyone. There really isnt any rights to keep someone from making parts to keep things in working order. Look at the auto industry, second hand parts are plenty. Think of an old corvette, parts are not made by the manufacturer, but substitutes are readily made (but very expensive). If I buy something I can make as many copies of it for my personal use. My tiporare, I can copy the fuse so I have a spare in case I crash, especially since I can not get the original parts anymore. As stated by Hook above, to have copyrights to something, the rights have to be registered.

8178: I just realized that this is over 5 years old. It does remind me of a Tiporare. Which reminds me that I have a Tipo kit that i bought when it first came out and only got as far as routing out the wheel wells. what is that, about 25-30 years old now? Maybe it is time I got around to working on that. I would really like this though if you made it reality. Not sure how many other projects you have going. I want to build a Cosmos 60 sometime soon as well. Loved your Blue Angel build and the Tipo build as well.
