Thats all fullblown telemetry. ;) I dont really care what flightpath my multiplex foamies took, or how hot the 15 dollar motor gets. :P I was hoping for something as stupidly simple as this thing here: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7068 Except I find it a bit pointless to use a bunch of weak little leds to tell you how empty your pack is. Id rather just have a single loud beep as soon as my packs go below 3.2v Because honestly whos got time to look at a telemetry panel when youre watching an airplane.[8|]

RE: New Hobbyking Camera!
Thats due to the crappy stock SD card, its much to slow to write 30 full pixelchange frames per second. The latest edition of this camera has a much better card included. Hit up google to see some recording done with a class 4 card.

They recalled the camera once more to replace the apparently shoddy SD card with faster ones, all should be ok now. My camera is on its way aswell, and I have a 4gb class 6 waiting for it. Should provide me with shock free recording, but I guess we'll see..

Cheap wireless battery monitoring system?
Ive been snooping around to find something like the seagull pro, except simply less. All I want is to get a signal from my battery to a receiver on the ground to tell me if my LiPo are running flat. A small lightweight chip I could plug onto say the balancer plug to power itself, and monitors voltage untill it reaches a preset limit which makes it send down a signal to a beeper of some sort. Ive been using a timer for a long time now but that simply doesnt cut it since no 2 flights are the same. Relying on the auto cutoff is also a bit risky since youll have to make an underpowered landing, and in half the cases I dont even hear the motor slowing down (damn noicy gassers!! [:@]). Ive seen one at hobbyking.com but the reviews show it doesnt quite work aswell. For instance it starts beeping faster and faster untill its a monotonous whine that wont stop untill you land and unplug the bleighter. Any suggestions? - Cheers, Sven

Thundertiger - Velocity 1 and 2?
Hi Everyone, I was nosing around in one of my RC magazines when my eye fell on the Thunder Tiger Velocity 2. I went looking for some info, but it seems this wing isnt very populair for some reason. So I have a hard time figuring out what the difference is between the v1 and v2. What exactly is EPO foam? Is it like EPP/Elapor, or is it as annoying as the polystyrene from for instance GWS? Im not particulairly fond of planes you have to transport on a pillow. ;) Furthermore its a bit annoying that thundertiger includes a OBL 29/27-07A motor without giving specs on that motor anywhere, I cant find howmany amps it actually pulls, or how efficient it is and all those things. They are fairly cheap I think though I saw one for 89usd, brushless motor and esc included. Does anyone have any experience with one of these models? (v1 or v2). Best Regards, Sven

Funjet (multiplex) - Cheap Power?
Hiya folks, Im really starting to miss my good old trusty picojet now, so Ive been wanting a multiplex funjet for a while. What I dont want though, is to pay out the nose for the reccomended himax motor set. [:@] Id much rather just order out for some chinese. [8|] I still have a bunch of stuff laying around, im just not sure those things would fit the somewhat unusuall rear end of the funjet. how do you mount outrunners for one, and will there be a problem with big propellors? (warping under extreme g-forces, eating the fins) Ive got a BM2409-12A (delta) 200w 1570Kv. 7~20A motor, but this motor needs atleast a rather big 8x4EP prop to run at full power. Ive also got a Typhoon 15/10, and a Typhoon 6/15 laying around. Is anything good gonna come from these motors, or are there better and still cheap alternatives I could get from United Hobbies or Aero Nuts? It doesnt have to be fast enough to peel back the grass on a low pass and lose it out of sight in 1 second, but Id like to be able to whip it around without worrying about a lack of power. [8D] I preffer flying on 25C 2200mAh lipoly pack, since ive already got a bunch of those primed for other planes aswell. [:)] Can anyone provide me with a vision on how to dress up this puppy? I still think my microjet is a pig in motion. :P Even with plenty of thrust to pull itself out of anything, the thing just bellyflops and freaks out untill I take it for a rough landing. I actually think it will decrease speed. I dont remember the technical mumbojumbo, but I suggested this myself once, and they didnt reccomend it. Something to do with greace trapping a layer of water on the hull causing friction.

RE: The horror of blimps
Lying is an ugly habbit, so its time to go Dr. Genius on you. [8D] A blimp that can support the weight of a regular mask, must have been utterly massive. [:)] Lets say a mask is around 20 grams (and this is a light mask, folks! Made of paper or something.). 1 litre of helium lifts a mere 0.1787grams, so that blimp must have been well over 125 litres of helium to support just the mask. Taking into account its own envelope weight and perhaps even a control gondola, that adds atleast another 125 litres of helium to lift off. 250 litres of helium can fill 166.6 cokebottles, just to give you an idea how massive that thing must have been to lift itself plus a mask. [:)] I dont believe you shoved a blimp that size into your parents bedroom. So there. [;)]

Is the pond you are using a bit cruddy? The occasional waterplant can be a real drag on the motor. And for tubefilling, I use a medical syringe. I got mine from the army surplus, but you can go to any vet, they will usually sell you one no problem.

RE: New Corona; what electronics?
Assuming its not simply to fat to mount where it should, I wonder if it will allow the big pinion it needs because of the low KV. Even though the motormount can be scooted towards the front quite a bit. If not, youll have to drill the slide mount holes out a bit to allow even more spacing. But then again, theres always beltdrive. [:)]

RE: New Corona; what electronics?
Hi Ally, If you plan on going on lipo, you can expect 3 things: Higher RPM, Lighter AUW, and LONGER flight time. But be sure to let the motor get its RPM. That means a smaller pinion, and even go a dot smaller on the blade grips. It should roughly hover at the same point of your throttle stick as it did with the old setup. Higher head RPM means more stability, Lighter AUW means it gets more nimble on the controls, Longer flight time means.. well, spending more time doing what you love. [:)] As for the "cogging" motor, im not sure what to think of that. Nothing is binding? When you give the head a shove, does it spin to a stop nice and smooth, or do you hear and/or see a slight "chugging"? The only time ive seen a motor do this, is when it had a break in one of the coils so it kept kinda miss firing. One thing you could do is get a meter and measure resistance. It should be the same on all leads. If not, something is screwed up inside and id reccomend sending it to mega motors for a check, as these things are to expencive to just chuck out. But be sure its nothing else messing things up first though. [:)]

RE: New Corona; what electronics?
Astroflight said jack up the RPM, the heat will go away. I started off with 4-6 just like you, and now im at 3-3. It got temps down 1'c though, but thats not quite the solution. It already hovers this heavy bird at half throttle now, so id be more tempted to try 2 dots. One thing is certain, this motor wont be able to deal with 10 minutes of flying with a bell222 body with real retracts. Apparently that LRK motor can do it without a sweat. Heres some videos of that motor inside a scale corona: BK 117 scale body (German Rescue helicopter) - Jet Ranger scale body - Showing howmuch grunt its got left with the body on

Hi Beaner, Sure looks like twins indeed. :D Except mine seems to be a bit feverish. [&:] Mines chugging away on a Astro 020 Corona, 3dot grips, 9T pinion (stock?), and 7 or 8 cells NiCD 2400. Im not particularly happy with the preformance. The heat is putting me off, flight times are a bit iffy, and I dare not get any bigger batteries then these 8cell 2400's because the darn thing already weighs a ton and I dont want to squeeze the motor any harder then its already dealing with. Im thinking of buying an HT 350/12-12W 10 P motor for it. Apparently it hovers a corona at only 13A on 3s lipo. Its got a built in cooling fan and everything, and ive seen coronas fly with full scale jet ranger bodies using this motor. It can haul 5000mAh of lipo for up to 25 to 30 minutes comfortably. What do you guys think of it?

Im a boat newbee, so... whats surface drive? The kind of drive thats jointed onto the rudder? There will be a "kinda big" brushless motor available from my helicopter soon, so I was wondering, would this one do nice in a standard Hammer EP? http://www.astroflight.com/e/env/0001zsjgk6lMdGYJCk9E1z4/store/store-Heli.html?link=/store/store-type-tem.html&item=products:af-803hcm Its got those fins on it (the sticker is removable, fins go from top to bottom), and I was thinking, maybe that ll do nicely for wrapping that watercooling coil into.
