RE: Taylorcraft crash
Commache that is a very reasonable and good response to all . But don't let the keyboard cowboys get you furious , what do you expect on an internation discussion forum ? I recant some of my opinion of how you handled the situation and I hope that you will tell all and keep the thread informed on what Horizon might do for you . best of luck with that .

Yes 3dsky the plane is Hangar 9 / Horizon poduct , And your post is really what Comanche should have done , I threw my two cents in after he made the rice comment ........... I love Asian food . but we all know he wasn't talking about rice really .

RE: Taylorcraft crash
I am working on a 28% Wildhare Extra and the the root rib has a 1/4-20 nylon bolt to snug the wing to the fuselage with hardwood dowels at the leading edge and trailing edge to hold it in place next to the fuselage . You are supposed to drill and put a safety pin in ( just in case ?) Any over-torque of the nylon bolt would have an eventual detriment effect to the wing . Commanche 260 (what a plane it still is lol) was quick to point out that he did nothing wrong at ALL. Bought in Sept' flown in April then the crash 4-5 times only with NO stress to the airframe .....Did you look at the G-meter ?........Oh I forgot the plane is demolished ,but at some point had a catastrophic failure to the wing .........not enough threads is the position that Commanche is taking . He really might be right too. But his approach to the problem was to come on RCU and cry foul and make very oppinionated remarks about his vast knowledge of model aviation because he flys REAL planes and this expensive little Chinese made toy is a piece of junk , I saw a bind and fly T-Cart recently and it is a beautiful model . In my opinion Commanche ,Tower shouldn't have to do anything . But maybe you could get a discount on a new purchase if you let off the throttle some in your discussions . Since you fly REAL planes (since you were 20) you should have enough sense to pre-flight your model while assembling the wings and struts and the infamous nylon bolt that you probably cross threaded too. I had a R/C buddy get killed in a Cub when the wing strut failed ........FAA said the stut fork was only holding by 4-5 threads because of a faulty threaded tube . When I rebuilt my PA-20 I double and triple checked my strut threads . My opinion is you were too trusting in a RTF model and the ultimate resposibilty is yours and yours alone to make sure those wings a CORRECTLY assembled , Blah ,Blah .............. Hopefully, Tower won't give you a new plane .

Sthil chainsaw conversions and more
I have two Sthil chainsaws that crank and run like an old O.S. FSR ,maybe even better ;-) . I have a new BME 50 on a 28% Wildhare Extra that will be test flown soon (bought the BME and WildHare six years ago just now assembling........typical behaivor for me lol). Anyways , I was told or read it somewhere that a BME 50cc has a Echo powerhead ?? If someone could could make a 50cc out of a Sthil engine , I would buy one in a New York minute . I don't post messages much at all because I am usually too right wing Texan for the moderators so in advance ,I apologize to any Yankees I may have offended in the above comment " New York minute " . We are all one on this Happy Birthday USA!!

too many chargers to choose from
I am looking for a charger that will service my older radios (nicads and nimh) and also cycle them . Then do the lipo balance thing too. I want to spend about a $100-120.00 . What are some good brands to choose from. One guy here bought one from Hobby King for $40.00 and it is working but I want a good one that will last . Thanks My electrics are 2-3-4S and I am not going to the larger batteries I am still a glow engine lover first [:D].........I have been searching more and the Thunder AC6 is not a bad looking charger and I think it would do what i want.

I had a link to some company building ARC Compensators and lost it during a computer crash......I think from the Eureka kits ? Does anyone know the name of the website ? I seem to recall it being called Old Skool or something like that . thanks, Mike

RE: Mach 1 Build
I had one like the red Mach One same basic paint shceme and I just love that plane. Your red one was really nice Lazer. I had a Kwik Fli, a Dirty Birdy and a Phoenix 5 and a Super Kaos too but the Mach One was my all time favorite. I have a Midwest kit untouched but the Eureka kit is very tempting too. Seem like my Mach One weighed in at almost 8 pounds but man that thing was smooooth . .....Oh well as I remember it anyways lol.

RE: Scratch built Mach One Foam Wing & Stab Cores ?
Thank you Clay for the info . I would like to build it as per the plans . I have a set of plans from way back and I can't find them . My dad built an original design shoulder wing plane with the Mach One wing and tail section . It was powered by a Webra .90 and it was fast and very solid flying on windy days . We had an airfoil book and I remember my dad plotted the Mach One airfoil to the tee. He attributed the smooth flying and solid feel by using the Mach One as a planform. I am 52 years old and remember Page flying the Mach One at the Lake Charles Nats . All the big guys were there and it was heaven for a young man who had never seen the icons of modeling in person. There were Pro-line and Kraft radios everywhere ! lol.....Single sticks mostly as I re-call . Clay, I will check into your info and thanks again . One more little story . Tom Dodgen who was a local at our field ,flew this shoulder wing plane and commented that it flew like one of his jets ,being solid feeling and it would stay in the direction you put it . Tom was a competitor and later when on a worked for BVM . My dad always said it wasn't his fuselage that should get the credit but the wing and tail from the Mach One . Of course I realize that MOST all the pattern planes of that era were just as equal in good flying chareteristics . I just have a soft spot for the Mach One . Mike

Scratch built Mach One Foam Wing & Stab Cores ?
I ordered a set of M.A.N. Plans for the Norm Page Mach One . I have been looking for a MidWest Kit and haven't found one lately . And I thought the one I had way back was too heavy anyway . I am going to attempt a scratch built version. I CAN cut the foam cores myself with a buddies hot wire cutter but ,I don't want too . Does Wing Mfg . still have foam wing cores for some of the pattern planes ? I searched the forum and see there are some custom foam wing cutting companies. By the way after flying the new latest greatest 3D's , I just want get back to the Cadillacs of the air . LUV DEM PATTERN PLANES . Taurus ,Kwik-Fli,DirtyBirdy,Mach One,Triton ,Phoenix .....were planes I had and I just loved them all ,especially my Mach One . Thanks in advance for any info that will help. Aslo palnned and in hand are a New Era .20 sized ready to cover and I have a Flea-Fli+10 and recently purchased a Bridi TweetyBird . I have always been fascinated by the little brothers of my favorite pattern planes . TOO MANY PLANES ,TOO LITTLE TIME !! lol.......Mike Also on the wish list : Tiger Tail , Curare ,and a Banshee

RE: Turned off 9caf channel 3 how do I get it back on?
I sent the radio in to the Futaba Service Center and got it back today. The repair invoice says:Replaced stick pots and ran setup. Tx passed bench test . Why didn't it pass bench test when they first boxed it up?I have had no less than 10 new Futaba's since the early 70's and this little jewel is the first that would not work out of the box.I bought it to put in a new 50c Wildhare Extra but now I will test it on a sport plane ,You know, one of the $400-$750 varieties which would be no BIG LOSS at all.I KNOW that anything mechanical can go wrong, but I'm really diappointed in this one. The JR Boyz have been have been very razzing me about this one at the flying field. Oh well, I had my say about this radio and I will buy Futaba next time too. One way to look at it it NOW HAS been checked over. LOL

Well,I took the transmitter to the experts the next town over(fellow futaba freaks)and the guys couldn't get it going either. Went to all the defaults Ch.3 dead . Going to box it up and send it in .A bad case of Mr. Murphy for me.

Turned off 9caf channel 3 how do I get it back on?
Some how I turned off the throttle -ch.3 on my brand new Futaba 9c during my set-up for the plane. It was working when I first turned it on and I must have done something. I have been reading the manual this afternoon trying to figure it out. I changed the servo but that wasn't the problem. Some of the guys at the field took a look and couldn't get it going either.I did a servo test in the menu and all the servoes are working including ch.3 . In the menu on the bar graph it has a black bar down but not one going up . Any info would be a big help. thanks,Mike

Overcharged Transmitter battery 6 XAS
I by-passed my diode so I could field charge and charged at a higher rate than I should have and fried my transmitter battery. The power switch was off.when I got finished charging the the back of the transmitter was very warm.I knew I had ruined my batteries and took the batteries out of another radio transmitter and then turned the the radio back on,everything looked good LCD display came on BUT I have NO signal now .Did I fry the radio even with the switch OFF? When I replaced the battery I looks like it will go on only one way. So,I don't think that the battery is hooked up wrong. Will it be worth sending in to have repaired or trash it and get another ? Thanks for any comments. Tcart

RE: Help Moki 1.8 Parts/Repair
I called Morris Hobbies today and ordered a new rod and wrist pin retainer clips for my Moki 1.8 same parts as MK. line of engines that they carry. The desk service was very good and very friendly. I called Dave Patrick models first and was told they DO NOT sell parts for Moki only the DP line of engines. Same parts by the way. Sandy told me to call Morris Hobbies or Just Engines. Also the rod I bought has roller bearings instead of a bushed rod.(they have the bushed one too).[:D] Hey guys just found out that the rod with roller bearings is for Moki GAS engines. I will be using the stock bushed rod for GLOW fuel sorry.[;)]

The Ultra Stick 1.20 is BACK!!!!
I am really disappointed in that cover scheme. My old twice dinged and patched Ultra Stik looks better than the new one. Maybe if sales are slow they'll come up with better colors. Then again if the plane flys nice they may not have to.If the price is right, I'll probably buy one anyway. Mike

BME 50 First Impressions
Initial run on BME 50. Engine likes to be very wet before starting. Once warmed up, starts first flip. 3 or 4 flips when cold. Running a 22-8 Bolly prop. Tached 7300 and engine is not near to being broken in yet. Pulls like crazy!!! Very impressed with engine, but, it does seem to vibrate more than I thought it would. Running a Dubro rubber mounted engine mount. Test stand solid, from 2X4. Carbon fiber Bolly prop factory balanced. I checked it and it seems okay. Wide open vibration seems normal, but mid-range seems rough. Ran a couple of 24 oz. tanks through it then opened it wide open and engine cut out, just a little. Retarded timing 2-3 degrees and it ran smoother. Also stopped the engine misfire. Will check it with a degree wheel to see where timing is. A guy at our field has a US 41 and it seems smoother than the BME but no near the power, of course. Took the engine to our field and ran it for the guys. They were very impressed with the thrust and power and told me that they thought that the vibration was normal. Am I expecting too much? By the way, putting the engine on a Wendell Hostettler GeeBee Z. Any input will be helpful. :spinnyeye
