RE: Robart Landing gears Vs other ones for Ziroli P38
It is acually pretty simple, wood booms light build - you can get away with Robarts. If you use the fiberglass booms and build that bird a little more scale (flaps, top hinged ailerons, alu wheels and landing gear doors), with other words more heavy 50 to 55 pounds - you need the Sierra gear. UP6 and UP3 valve controllers round that picture up. I bent two front forks (really hard landings, if you want call that landings hahaha) and Darrel replaced them both time in fast manner and reasonable. To have the right stance, P-38 with full ammo boxes, you have to mount the front gear on the top plate. This is also no problem for the gear.... RE: Warbird Museums Reviews
What makes the museum so different, you can touch ALL the airplanes. So, for the scale buff - what a deal. Getting close to these machines is a great deal for me. The visitors approaching the airplanes with great respect and the curator had the right idea. Many retirees lurking around and eager to tell you about their section. Like: the museum loaned the Russians a Me 262 and never got it back, so they found a rare trainer... Speaking of non US, Japanese German French and other nationalities are on display too.

RE: Warbird Museums Reviews
This museum is on a base, so don't forget a valid ID. There are no admissions or parking fee. The only money you spent is on food and the F-14 flight simulator. The simulator is a "must go" (before you eat ) great simulation - they will ask you to remove everything out of your pockets... There are also two IMAX theaters with great shows.

Now here is the chance to share your expiriance. I like to start with the National Naval Aviation Museum located in Pensacola Florida. Here the website - www.navalaviationmuseum.org/ Let me tell you about the overall experience: WOW!! This is a great museum for the whole family and a huge playground for the aviation enthusiast and modeler. Right at the entrance there is a bronze statue called "The spirit of naval aviation" In the universal language of all aviators, a World War II pilot relives his flight with naval aviators from his hast and future. Word War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm. All of these wars are covered with airplanes, uniforms, artifacts and plenty detailed info.

RE: Hellcat F6F Wild Hare RC - G-Pete's build and review
For dulling the a cover film I used different methods including the matte clear coat. But the best is still steel wool and very very fine sand paper. The Hellcat comes with some sheets of blue and grey - there you can try it out. That method allows you to use the heat gun and/or the iron later on....
ORIGINAL: Chad Veich
ORIGINAL: CorsairJock REALLY? A P-47 with rearward rotating retracts? What variant of the P-47 was this: never seen such a thing!
The retracts on a Jug do sweep aft if the airplane is built scale. It may not be much but on a large scale model with big, heavy tires/wheels it is enough to effect the CG to some extent.
Even it is pretyy hot and dusty over there in AZ - Chat still thinks clear. Yes if the Thunderbolt build to scale the, lets say 1:5th, the Wheel center moves about 5 inches. A heavy landing gear and scale wheels add up.... Now, Chat you can go back and finish to sweep your doorway and wash the Truck

RE: I need answers from the best Warbird pilots.
Well, dual rates were actually "created" for the aerobatic airplanes. With large throw angles close to 50 degree in average, it would make landings difficult. In my opinion, no warbird needs high and low rates. The control throws on warbrirds are relatively small no need to divide these small movements in two. Further Takeoff: switch for landing gear / switch for high rates / switch for flaps ....... Landing: switch to low rares / switch for flaps / switch for landing gear ohhh go around - switch landing gear or high rate first or flaps up and then landing gear to high rate after flaps... nah - guess you get my point. Now to expo, exponential is a great thing. Let me explain a little history behind that. Still today, with the highest sophisticated radio equipment you will hear the advise "On a warbird you need nose weight ". The origin is simple - back in the days there was the movement 1:1 and the resolution of the servos was, let say antiquated, these birds flu fast and they needed to land a little faster. The "warbird" guys found out when you have a nose heavy airplane your tail feathers react not so fast and crisp. That resulted in a less bumpy or zig-zag flights. But that makes the bird less precise. A little wind and the airplane gets bumped around. Expo, now you set the CG where it belongs and have a stable airplane. 50% is a good starting point on all surfaces, you may find it a little sluggish - if you don't like it dial it back a little. That gives you a smooth ride, it needs to look easy and the banks graceful - including the landing.

The Lord is my pilot, I shall not drift He lighteth me across the dark waters; He steereth me in the deep channels. He keepeth my log. He guideth me by the star of holiness for his namesake. RE: Hellcat F6F Wild Hare RC - G-Pete's build and review
Now here on a personal note, some of you guys PM and called me if everything is alright. I know that ARF dragged out a little and you guys like to see that thang in the air, I'm aware of it. Well, I had a small surgery on my back and on top of that, we (work) build a new building and bought a laser. I caught up with work and now I can finish the Hellcat and it looks like this week is the maiden. Besides that I have a pretty cool project going on (not RC related). Alright thanks.

RE: Hellcat F6F Wild Hare RC - G-Pete's build and review
Speaking of maiden - I'm very close to get that bird in the air. The last few weeks were terrible, rain wind , wind and rain. Here are the last few steps. 1 Supply and return line, or up and down line. I prefer to put a male and a female on them. While transport or store the bird you can hook them together and no dust get into the lines. 2 The you see them un-coupled. 3 Mounting the wheels and gear doors, with a light oil on the axle the wheel turns just fine and has virtually no play. 4 Because of the soft material of the gear door I choose blue locktite. 5 Final inspection on the power plant, the carburetor is filled with fuel - ready for noise. 6 The Hellcat had after the cowl on the bottom a door, may I build that too. 7 The Xoar 22x10 carbon fiber prop 8 Now with yellow tips. 9 Tail wheel installed. 10 Spinner, this one came from the TopFlite P-47 ARF - pretty heavy, I have the feeling very little nose weight needed. 11 Simple Pilot Bust 12 Lower cowl opening for the exhaust stacks and airflow.
