You're better off calling Horizon. They do answer their emails but it takes then a couple of days usually. Calling is a better option for your warranty issue.

RE: New to sailboats and could use a little help
Posting a picture of the servo connector would be a big help in identifying if that is the old airtronics connector or not. If it is the old Airtronics (Sanwa) connector, the easiest thing is just to buy the small adapter cables that you would just plug the servos into and then you have a modern JR style connector that can just plug into modern day receiver. Tower has these adapters.

M Systems Add On - JR Timer Now Controlled by Throttle Stick
One of the things I constantly hear about JR radios is the lack of the timer being controlled by the throttle stick. So I'm a bit surprised that this add on circuit hasn't apparently generated more buzz. Back at the beginning of the year, this add on was offered for the DX6i. I knew it could also work with my XP9303 and so I ordered same. I corresponded a couple of times with Jaro Macko, the designer and made a number of voltage measurements for him. The unfortunate thing was at the time I was having a back and forth shuffle with Horizon regarding my transmitter so I didn't want to install anything that they might use as an excuse for whatever. Eventually I got the transmitter back working as it should but by that time the flying season was upon us and I just wanted to fly. Then I saw that Jaro had made specific add on's for different JR transmitters. So I ordered the 9303 version from him. One of the "features" the new board has is the ability to beep approximately every minute if you so desire. It was activated by connecting the wire from pin 6 of the connector that plugs into the Add on board, to the wire from pin 4. I made an email suggestion regarding the circuit beeping every minute, namely to make the connection between wire 4 and 6 a jumper and eliminate the wire on 6. Jaro had been thinking ahead and had already done that. He sent me the latest version. The main difference between this version and what I originally bought was the extra jumper and the elimination of a wire. So I just got finished installing the circuit. As all my models have a timer associated with them I elected to leave Jumper 1 on and so with turning on the transmitter, the add on is activated. I haven't had a chance to fly with it yet but it should work great. I've tested it on the bench and it works like a charm. With my installation, the only thing I have to do, is to put the throttle stick at the location I want the timer to start/stop and then turn on the transmitter. Move the stick above that point, timer on, below that timer off. You still of course have to set the timer as a stopwatch or countdown timer, plus the amount of time for the countdown selection but you would have to do that anyway. With my electric gliders it is a real boon. I have the 2 available timers for glider mode on. The bottom is set as a stopwatch and it keeps track of the total time up, the upper timer is set as a countdown timer that turns on and off with the throttle stick postion now. It keeps track of the total time I want the motor to run for any particular flight. Can't tell you the number of times I've either forgotten to turn on or off that timer. This is much better. The new JR 12X and the coming 11X have finally moved into the 21st century and have the ability to control the timer by the throttle stick but for everyone else, this would be a great add on. While Jaro doesn't specifiy it, I'm certain this would also work for the 8103. He has circuits for the DX6i, DX7 and this one for the 9303/DX9. The only thing I didn't "like" was the wire going up to the TRAINER switch, only because I currently can't unplug it if I ever want to remove the back. I'll change that soon with a simple single pin connector pair. This really is a nitpick thing though. Took about 10 days to get to me after I ordered it. By the way, my XP9303 is the heli version so it has a toggle switch for the TRAINER/TIMER function. The plane and sailplane models have a push button but the hookup and function is the same. Actually I find the arrangement of the heli version much better for all 3 types of aircraft this transmitter is capable of controlling. You can download the instruction manuals for any of the models plus there is a video showing the operation in a DX6i. Installation involves soldering 4 wires in place and is fairly straight forward. As I noted above, I left Jumper 1 in place, so that the circuit is activated when I turn on the transmitter. You know it is active as after the standard 2 beeps the system gives you, the add on beeps at you 6 times. If for some reason I don't want the add on active when I turn on the Tx, the only thing required is to pull the spring loaded TRAINER/TIMER switch towards me, hold it there and turn on the transmitter. In this scenario, the add on will beep just once and then you let go of the spring loaded toggle switch. It isn't as slick as having the programming built into the transmitter but for those of us wanting something like this without buying a JR 12X, this is really the ticket. Cost is about $20 USD. Contact Jaro via his website for the email address where to PayPal to. The website is: http://www.drapko.sk/msystem/main.htm Not sure why the system won't allow me to put explainations with each picture, so will try to do so here: Going from left to right Picture 1 - This is the latest layout. Jumper 1 determines if the timer circuit starts up automatically on start up or not. Jumper 2 determines if the circuit will beep at you every minute or not. Picture 2 - This is the blue wire from Pin 4 of the add on wire harness. It is Ground. The attachment point shown in the instruction manual is at the top of the loop the blue wire makes. I found an exposed bit of cooper at the bottom of that ground land and chose to solder to it instead so as to keep that Ground solder point intact. Picture 3 - Here you can see the add on circuit tucked in the case. It was suggested in the instructions to use foam mounting tape but it wasn't going anywhere, so I didn't see the need for it. Picture 4 - These are the attachment of pins/wires 1 and 3 from the wire harness going to the add on board. FYI, pin/wire 1 of the add on is power and the blue wire from the throttle pot is connected to it to get +5v (pin 1 wire is red). Pin 3 wire (white) is attached where the orange wire from the throttle pot goes. This is the center tap of the throttle pot. Picture 5 - This is the back of the transmitter case and the attachement of wire 5 (orange) from the add on harness to the white/yellow wire coming from my TRAINER/TIMER switch. Picture 6 - Here you can see how I routed the orange wire. I taped it down so it cound not get tangled in the throttle/rudder gimbal.

A friend of mine has been looking all over for the non-painted Super Coverite to no avail. Even Nelson Hobby has none of their covering material and he won't even order anymore in as he is afraid he will be stuck with it. Surely there must be a place somewhere in the States that still has a supply. Balsa USA is even out. So anyone knows of a source, would appreciate hearing about it.

RE: Spektrum users BEWARE!
Actually, if it happened during midflight, the main receiver would have kept functioning as normal. It would only have been when you tried to turn it back on after turning off that you would have found the problem, assuming you looked at the LED's. The system is designed that way, loss of a remote does not result in loss of the RF connection.

RE: All new JR 11X
There use to be a program called DataXchange that would allow you to transfer model setups from one model type to another but that now is no longer available. All the JR software has never allowed you to transfer from one type of model to another due to the memory map locations being different. Perhaps JR will come out with such a program but I doubt it. Even their newest Data Transfer program has trouble working with Vista and is still at version 1. PC software is not their strong point. Looking forward to seeing what features and parameters the new TX has.

RE: NEW DLE30!
I had a problem with a G26 and the problem eventually traced to problem back to crap in the gas container that I mixed and used to fill the planes gas tank with. This stuff got into the carb despite the filters I was using. Got a Jersey Modeler gas container setup with manual pump and never have had a problem since. The DLE30 sounds like a nice engine but I don't like using engines that use anything other than a single bolt to hold on the prop. Just personal preference.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft
Regarding the Tru-turn Spinner. I bought one of their prop hubs for my Clipped Wing Monocoupe that has a G26 in it. As others have found, due to the length of the prop shaft, it did not work. I did get to talk to one of the "techs" there and they know their stuff doesn't work with the G26 (and obviously the G20) without the prop shaft being cut down. What I don't understand is why don't they tell you that up front on their webpage where I ordered from. The good thing about the G26 and probably the G20, is that the prop shaft is really a prop stud. It can be removed and replaced. Tru-Turn did offer to cut the 2 extra prop studs I had down to proper size for free, so I did have them do it. I haven't replaced the stud in the engine as yet as I had my share of futzing with the engine, cowl, etc. when tweaking everything so it all worked correctly. So I'm flying the plane with just the prop nut that came with the engine but the plane will certainly look better with the hub if I ever get around to replacing the prop stud.

RE: Remote Kill Switch for Magneto engine
Ah, I don't think the thousand volt thing is accurate, you aren't grounding the spark plug wire, which is essentially on the secondary side of the magneto. You are grounding the low voltage primary side of the magneto and that certainly doesn't have thousands of volts on it. I've been using the RCATS 100X switch for a number of magneto engines. No problems at all. It is essentially a relay and a signal from your receiver closes the contacts and shorts the magneto input to ground.

I also put a pilot in my Monocoupe. It was from MGA I believe. Mounted it similar to what Don did in the previous post. His head sits just behind the bulkhead that the wing joiner is screwed to. It adds a nice touch to the model. Not the best of pictures but you should get the drift.

There is a Clipped Wing Monocoupe thread in this Forum. You can check it out and see what prop hubs other people have used. A Tru Turn Prop Hub or Spinner will be more expensive than a Higley Prop Hub but the Tru-Turn stuff is lighter. You might also want to turn off the Caps Lock on the keyboard. All capital letters is like shouting.

RE: CH Ignition conversion on G26
For tuning the carb this is the procedure I've followed. Worked first time I tried it and I've used it ever since (got it from Mark Fuess): "Set the low end & high end needles to about 1 3/4 to 2 turns each. Choke the carb or prime it, until the carb is wet. Fire up the engine and let it warm up. Let's set the top end first since it's the easier of the two. Go to full throttle. Adjust the top end needle for peak RPM. Leave it wide open for about a minute to see if it changes any. Should the engine go lean, open the low end needle slightly, if this doesn’t work... you will have to adjust the needle valve inside the carb.( I will explain this later) If the top end runs OK, then slowly pull the throttle down until the engine begins to "four cycle" hold the throttle there. Adjust the low end needle until the "four cycling" barely stops. Now lower the throttle more until it "four cycles" again, and adjust the low end again. Keep doing this until you reach full idle. Now, from full idle begin to throttle up until the engine starts to bog or hesitate. Open up the low end needle just enough to eliminate the bog or hesitation. When this is done right, you will be able to set the throttle in any position and it won't four cycle, plus you will be able to transition from idle to full power without any hesitation at all. Now, for easy starting it's best to have the low end a little rich and it will four-stroke a little."

As you say this motor has an electronic ignition, the gauge they are using is so you can set where the spark fires. Sounds like the gauge that comes with a CH Ignitions module. You could go to the CH website and down the load the instruction that fully describe how the ignition timing is to be set if you instructions are incomplete.

I'm using the 475's in my Pacific Aeromodel Monocoupe for ailerons and elevator (one servo per elevator half). The plane is powered by a G26. So far no problems with the servos. Think it all has to do with the type of gas power plane. I probably wouldn't use them in a 3D aerobatic gas plane.

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe
The CH ignition system works very well and I haven't had any problems with it. The only reason I wouldn't do it again is because of the extra wiring, battery, etc. that it takes to set the whole thing up. The Monocoupe has lots of room and I had no trouble installing everything but I'm not convinced that it delivers any greater performance than the original mag system the engine came with. So just from the point of view of keeping things simpler is the reason I wouldn't do the ignition thing again. As to hand starting, I never ran the G26 except with the ignition system, so perhaps I might find it unacceptable if I did want to do hand starting but I'll find that out with another engine. I'm not opposed though to using an electric starter.

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe
I used the stock muffler also and it works just fine. Fits in the cowl easily also. Using an APC 17x6 prop. Plenty of power. For the elevator servos, I used two seperate channels on the receiver and just mated it to the Elevator channel in the 9303 Wing Setup window. I'm using a 9 channel JR PCM receiver and found that at certain RPM's I was getting jitter on the elevator servos (this was at a low rpm). Kind of surprised me. I ended up buying buffered extensions from Electrodynamics and all of that went away. Using the G26 with a CH Ignition conversion. Works very well but if I had it to do over again I might just forgo the ignition system and use the magneto setup as it came from the factory.

Regulators have limits to them vs. straight batteries and all regulators are not the same. Personally to me if I can fly without a regulator (no matter what the radio system) so much the better, just another layer of complexity that can fail. In the end, to each their own.
