Thanks Jim! I'm running the RCS 140 which is pretty light in comparison, so I may need more than you used as I'm already a about 5-6oz. I'm thinking another 5-6oz will do it.

Clearblue, Thanks for the info. How much weight did you add? What is the total weight? Mine right now is 14 lbs which seems fair. I have 6 oz of nose weight - I use lead shot and epoxy in the front of the cowl to get the weight out as far as possible.

Hi All, I've been working on my SPAD for some time. Here it is before the maiden. I went out to maiden it this evening and it was way to tail heavy. I had it about the middle of the CG range. Needless to say...I'm now going to replace the 2 right wing panels as it was not pretty.

What did eveyone use for the matt finish. I'm thinking rustoleum flat clear which seems to be a choice among many to paint film covering. Also, what is the diameter of the wheels.

RE: AMA Leader Members or
Well...I'll chime in here. I was proud to be honored with LM status. I also enjoyed my short 3 years as AVP before LT told me he no longer needed my service as AVP or district webmaster. My service was no longer needed, but there is still an open position in NorCal...h-m-m-m curious. However, I still have my material and knowledge to assist in an unofficial capacity. The clubs I belong to and frequent for meetings and events still solicit and welcome my input because they know I'm there as a modeler/AMA guy. That cannot be taken away or lessened by the loss of an AVP position. Jon Former D-X AVP Leader Member - Admin NorCal

Evolution 1.00NX Question
I have a Evolution 1.00NX with a 14X8 MA Scimitar prop. It runs fine, but seems to freewheel. It takes a while for the rpms to come down. Is this a characteristic of these larger glow engines or should I try a different prop. Any suggestions would be great...thanks!

RE: 1/4th Scale Flair Tiger Moth Project
No problem Dave. If I run across one I'll let you know. As I work more on mine, I realize it was probably flown at one time and someone decided to remove the covering and do it over. How about this...the cowl is silver and there were traces of yellow film. I would be willing to bet it was the same color scheme of yellow and silver. Why anyone would cover an old time plane with film and not fabric is beyond my way of thinking. I'm covering mine with Coverite fabric and will paint it to look like the photo attached.

I had to have one of them. Dave A. - Here are a few photos of mine the the RCS/MacKay 140. I think it is going to be excellent.

Anything with side exhaust may be a problem. I have a great 3W-24 I had my heart on using, but will not work. I just found a RCS 140 rear exhaust that will work perfect as it mounts like a glow engine and has the power of a 120-150 4-stroke. If you are interested, I can contact the guy I got mine from as he has a friend with one and may be willing to sell it. My thoughts...

RE: Kadet Senior - say hi to
Well I may as well join in on the fun. I built this Senior last Spring to take to the West Coast Festival for night flying. I removed half the dihedral, added strip ailerons and O.S. 70FS for power. It has over 80 LEDs and landing lights that are on a transmitter switch. The wiring is from an old parallel printer cable. It flies great and looks great in the air at night. It has been a big hit on a few occasions.

RE: Balsa USA Der Jager
I have a BUSA Der Jager from a good friend. He built it many moons ago, but it is still in nice condition. It is equipped with a Supertigre 3000, onboard glow and all Airtronics radio gear to include receiver. His building techniques are excellent and this plane is rock solid. It is painted as the normal scheme in RED. If you know of anyone interested, I am willing to part with it as I will probably never fly it. I have way too many planes and need to thin my herd. I can take some photos for anyone that is interested.

RE: AMA District X Special Election
Mr. Tougas, I'm not going to get into a debate with you over this. I will give two specific examples. #1 - You have strated that Mike Brown started the D-X newsletter as a campaign tool and that it will be gone after the election. Mike started it long before that and will continue as long as he can no matter who is DVP. It's for the membership.. #2 - Let me refer you to this article published on Feb 1. Jim Giffin passed on Jan 31. Monday, February 1, 2010 Jim Giffin passes away; special election Dear Supporters, I wanted to let you all know that Jim Giffin the District X vice-president passed away last Sunday January 31st. The news was posted here on the AMA website. Anyone wishing to send sympathy cards can send them to; Maureen Giffin Box 494688 Redding, CA. 96049 Jim's passing will require that the AMA conduct a special election to choose a new vice-president. Many of you have expressed strong feelings on how the vacancy should be filled; namely you feel I should be appointed to the position since Jim and I essentially received the same number of votes in the recent election. That is not going to be possible. The AMA bylaws require that each District Vice-President identify one of their Associate Vice-Presidents to step in, in cases such as this. Mike Brown was the AVP Jim chose to be his alternate. Traditionally special elections are held at the same time as a regular election with voting in October and November. While this is tradition, it is not required. The Executive Council has the authority to call a special election at anytime. I have had discussions with our President Dave Mathewson on this issue, he has committed to thinking this issue over and may raise it next week at a discussion the Executive Council will be having on this and other issues. If you are in favor of having a special election now rather than later to fill the District X Vice-President's position here's what you can do. Since you are all leaders in the clubs that provided the most support to me please encourage your members to send an email to Dave Mathewson at president@modelaircraft.org or our AMA Executive Director Jim Cherry at jcherry@modelaircraft.org asking that a special election be held now rather than in October. I have found Dave and Jim to be open and honest and more than happy to discuss important issues like this one we face now. Please ask that all emails be constructive and respectful. While I feel genuinely sorry about Jim Giffin's passing, the issue of when we hold a special election does not allow time to pass before acting. I beleive that given a significant amount of positive feedback from AMA members we will have a special election now rather than later, but time is of the essence and we must act today. If you would like to discuss this with me please contact me at 707-480-2053. Thank you for your support. Sincerely, Lawrence Tougas Candidate for AMA District X Vice President http://ama-district-x-election.blogspot.com/ posted by SFDRCM at 9:44 AM

RE: AMA District X Special Election
Well...it has been quite sometime since anyone has posted anything on here. Undoubtedly, you have received some communication that the ballots ore now getting in the mail. Please take a few minutes to check a box for the candidate of your choice for the good of the members of District X. I would like to say a few words on behalf of Mike Brown. I have known Mike for many years and he is a very stand up guy as many of you have experienced. He has not been a pest about campaigning as his qualifications and accomplishments for the members of the AMA speak much louder than any words on paper. He is by far not part of the "Establishment" as you may have heard or read. He has run a clean campaign and not engaged in any mudslinging, because has has been way too busy handling AMA business and taking care of the members. He did not go out and start campaigning the very day after Jim Giffin passed away. He tried to continue the motions at hand and complete some of the tasks that Jim wanted but was not able to do. Mike is very dedicated to the position and spends most of every day working on the job. This position in this large of a district requires more than a couple of hours in an evening or on a weekend. It also requires someone with experience of how a local club operates, the duties of the officers, how to successfully organize and run events and fly-ins over and over. It also makes a big difference in your decision making process if you have experience with a variety of aircraft and their capabilities. I could go on and on but I have said enough. Please take the time to compare the experience of these two candidates and vote for the one you think is the most capable and the guy you want representing District X and the future of our great hobby. RE: Turnigy receiver controlled on off switch
I have a couple of these switch units. I'm confused about the rx connector. My rx connector has a orange wire, red wire and a greyish/purple wire. Which color is ground or which color is the signal wire? Second...I would like to run some LEDs from my receiver battery without an extra battery. So if I plug the rx battery into the rx and then plug the Turnigy plug into say ch. 5, do I still need to run an extra ground wire? Thanks.

RE: ESM T-28
Since I have not started on mine, I cannot speak from experience on the T-28. However, I have encountered that very issue on other ARFs I have built. I determined the amount of clearance needed to lock the gear (which generally is very minimal) and used plywood shim stock under the gear mounting flanges. Normally it has been no more than 1/16" or 3/32" shim to do the trick and does not really affect the gear doors, etc. Hope this helps...

Keep the good work on the thread guys. Tomas sent me one of these as well with the stock ESM retract gear. I have an old Quadra 50 on CH ignition that will fit this plane perfect. According to the manual, the distance from the firewall to the thrust washer is 6 3/8" / 160mm. My Q-50 is exact, where my Zenoah G-38 is 6 3/4" which would also work.
ORIGINAL: combatpigg Besides the HOF event, everything else you listed could have been done by proxy. I've got to believe that some of you guys with this warped sense of what a dollar is worth are retired Federal employees.
Ordinarilly, I would not reply to a question like this as it doesn't qualify for an intelligent answer. However your done by proxy comment is absurd. Let me give you a typical example...A local club president contacts the DVP or local AVP and requests an AMA official attend a club Christmas party or other event to present an AMA District X Award of Excellence to a fellow modeler who has made significant contributions to the hobby. The DVP or AVP say we will just email it or mail it and you can give it to him. What kind of signal does that send to the membership about AMA leadership. You will say...that's just one...but wait...I have a hundred more... You will be the first guy to complain...how come we never see any of the leadership...they must be sitting on their duff and spending our district money for what? You are not even a member of this district...so why the grilling...you should be asking these questions of Bruce Nelson or do you hate him also. And to sum this up...what in the world does any of this have to do with 2 gentlemen running for election? Let's get back on track in this forum...please!

RE: AMA District X Special Election
Personally, I'm voting for Mike Brown. Mike is a straight up guy and a modeler's modeler. He has held national level positions other than D-X VP, written articles, reviews, and is extremely knowledeable about AMA and District X. He has not been in the position long, but has already made some very nice positive changes. He was helping the district and AMA from behind the scenes for a very long. His passion for the hobby is above reproach and others could only hope to emulate his ideas and actions. Mike does not have 'Pie in the Sky' ideas that have little substance. He just wants to travel the district to meet and fly with club members, hear their concerns and help them and the AVPs with issues that arise. Let's don't forget Mike's District X newsletter that the AMA President gave our district major kudos for developing and literally thousands of members have asked for it to continue. It is an AMA first. That is my personal opinion, however his excellent reputation stands on its own. Actions are much louder than words. This is a free country and I spent many years in the military to help preserve the right to vote for your choice of candidate. No matter who you choose as your candidate........PLEASE VOTE YOUR CONSCIENCE!
