RE: Help in ID'ing plane
Thanks guys, that pretty much sums up what it is [:)]. Anybody else with any guess's on worth?. According to the person who now has it, the owner flew it the day before he gave it to him, so last weekend I guess. I would also guess around $200 would be close other then needing to change out the Rx. Unless battery is dated I would also suggest changing it out. At least I've always felt better doing that on planes I've bought just for piece of mind. Thanks again.

Help in ID'ing plane
Hi Guys - I have a friend who inherited this plane and was wondering if I could find out for him who makes it and what model it was. He say's it's 5' long and the WS is 68". It looks like it has an OS 4-stroke poking it's head out to me on the right side. Two bottles of glo fuel was also a hint [;)] Thanks for any help you can give me to help him out. If he decides to sell it what would you guys suggest as an asking price. He said when his Dad picked it up the previouse owner had flown it that day for the last time (I guess he is just getting out of the sport). Thanks and I hope to hear from a few of you soon [:D]

RE: New: Find Rc Flying Fields with Google Maps
And just to make sure everyone knows one thing, I started my database of actual rc field locations before the AMA ever even thought about it and I have the dates to prove it. I also helped QC a lot of the field coordinates for D-8 due to folks trying to send in the correct info to AMA but now knowing how to. Just for what it's worth.............

RE: Horizon Hobby Carbon Cub SS
Hi Guys - Got mine last weekend and went to set it up yesterday and had problems. I am running a 9303, I had it setting level on the table, plugged the battery in and it went through it's sequence, and then I turned on my Tx with the bind button pressed and as soon as it took hold the flaps went down, no biggy, but the right aileron went full up. The left hand one was perfectly centered. I tried the aileron's and the left one worked perfect but got no down out of the right one at all. I unplugged it and reversed the gear servo for the flaps, and was trying to figure out what to do to get the right aileron down. I decided I might try to rebind it, went through the process again and this time it just stayed up and then all of a sudden I started to hear a whine that started to get higher in pitch. I'm hoping the gear didn't strip out. Any ideas or suggestions on what I should try next?? Thanks guys

RE: Club/Field with multi hobbies.
One of the fields here in Wyoming is exactly what your talking about. I don't have the web site handy right now, but do a search for the Wyoming Modelers Park Assc. in Riverton Wyoming. I have flown there several times. The RC track is far enough away I've never heard the cars. Pretty nice layout and they get help from the city somehow. Here is the link to their website and they have a pretty cool drawing of the facility - [link=http://www.wyomingmodelerspark.com/default.aspx]Wyoming Modelers Park[/link]

RE: 4 channel beginner planes?
Tried and true, I started with a Sig LT-40 about 15 years ago. High wing and very very stable. Used an OS 46 in it. I still fly it now and use it for a trainer for other new beginners. I have only upgraded the motor with OS 55 and several new batteries over the years. Can't go wrong. The only thing I would caution you on. Even though you might think you have the FS figured out, please find a club and ask to buddy box with a trainer until you get comfortable with things out in the real world. Just my 2 cents [:D]

RE: Ultra Stick LITE Done Right ..!
Well after almost 5 years of faithful flights, my Lite-120 decided it had had enough ......[:o] So this last winter I made it my first project to get back into flying shape again. Fuselage speaks for itself, but after I got the covering off the wing, the wing took longer to do then the fuselage. I am happy to report however that I re-maidened it this Spring and I'm once again a happy camper. This is just one of my favorite planes to go fly. Has an OS-160 on the nose, which makes it quite a glo-fuel hog, but I like the performance [:D] I managed to match the old color scheme with one exception. I bought a roll of 'translucent' covering, but when I got it home and started to put it on, it was actualy 'clear'. The wing pretty much was gone on the LE on both tips into about the 2nd or 3rd rib and the center dowel section was completly tore out. I think it looks kind of cool being able to walk up to it and show folks how it's built on the inside [8D]. The NIB one you've got for sale is AWFULLY tempting [:)] I may be PM'ing you soon but I don't want to jink's myself either.................

RE: Menz 22x8 prop - Can't Balance
Hi Guys - Thanks for the info, let's see: I'll use some putty or a little tape and lead to see how much weight I'm looking at removing. I'll 2nd you on the Xoar, that's what I've been using and your right, with just a little bit of adjustment they are ready to go. I do like to balance the prop, but then I go ahead and finish the balance by putting all the rotating parts together and then do a final balance. I mark all the parts so they all go back on the engine in the exact same alignment. You'd be surprised at how much the other components will take the perfectly balanced prop out of balance. I bought the balance ring to just try it, and like I said I needed the extra weight on the nose anyhow. After a little trial and error I found that it does actually do a really good job. If your trying to be weight conscience however, stick to the tried and true methods of either sanding or using the clear finishes. I did call up the shop I got it from and also DA, and neither one said they have had any calls with the same problem, so it must not be a 'batch' thing. Thanks again guys

Menz 22x8 prop - Can't Balance
Just a quick question - I bought a Menz 22x8 prop, drilled it using the jig for a DA50. I'm using a Tru-Spin balancer. I started with back plate, prop, balance ring and spinner and by the time I got done I had all of the set screws on one side and they are still at the top. The swing of the prop to center did slow down a little but not much. Took everything off and tried just the prop itself and it swung down and stopped dead pretty quick. I took the other prop I bought out of the bag, put it on the balancer and it did almost the same thing.......... I don't know how much weight change it'll take to balance but I'm thinking more then I have ever seen before. Has anyone else recently had any problems getting a Menz 22x8 prop balanced???? Just wondering if it's a possible batch of bad props just coming out, a difference in the wood from one end to the other etc. I'm taking them all over to my brothers tonight to try them out on his balancer to just make sure they do the same thing on his.......................

RE: *Aeroworks 50cc S2 Sport Cub Build*
Hi Panhndl - I just did a Google search on the SPEKTRUM AR9000 and sure enough, there is a notice out on it. Guess I'll check on that. What seems odd is all 3 planes I've lost have happened to have been on the third flight of the day, and during a bank to the left. The Lite-120 did basically a snap roll right after take off and ended up heading 90 degrees to it's orignal flight path, thought I had it and it did another snap. I did have a few seconds of throttle response to that one. The Stik40 was on it's 2nd flight of the day(my 3rd flight of the day), actually coming in to land, was making my downwind and just turning left into base when it just quit responding. I have them all programmed so when it loses signal it's suppose to kill the engine, but it went in full bore with no response to the sticks and no killing or idleing down of the engine. The Cub yesterday was in a left hand when it spun. The Lite-120 and the Stik40 both had AR7000, and now after doing some more Google searches it turns up with some almost identical stories from other pilots......... My radio is a 2 year old 9303 and it holds a good charge on the battery and I never fly it below 10. You can see how I mounted the AR9000 on the Smartfly Sport Plus board up on really soft bottle stoppers. I've never found a better way to soften vibration out of a Rx then this to date.

RE: *Aeroworks 50cc S2 Sport Cub Build*
Well the good news is the Maiden was sweet [:D] The BAD news is the 2nd flight wasn't [:o] First flight amounted to a couple clicks of trim and it was hands off. Running off asphalt and didn't seem to have any problems with keeping it straight down the runway. The DA50 was way rich and was cutting out on the top end, but that was alright for the break-in on it. The 2nd flight was going perfect as well, I had already got kind of comfortable with it, wasn't 3 mistake high, but I wasn't (at least I didn't think I was) 1 mistake low either. Went into a gentle left hand bank, gave her a little rudder to bring her around, and I guess I had let the speed drop because the next thing I know the nose dropped and it went into a perfect flat spin. Nothing I did on the sticks made it do anything....... This is now the 3rd plane I've lost in 12 month's, with only about 5 others in my whole flying career. I bought a new JR9303 with 2.4, and with all 3 planes it seems like the signal just dropped out and never came back. What's wierd is I'll have maybe 3 perfect flights, and then out of know where I get these stupid black outs. I know dumb thumbs, and I'll admit the other 5 were no one's fault but my own, just not paying attention, but these last 3 just weren't right. So I guess on Monday I'll be calling Horizon to see how long it will take to send the radio in and get it checked out. The other call will be to Rocco and the AW crew to see what's going to be the cheapest route for getting back in the air, a new fuselage, cowl and landing gear, or a whole new plane................ Wings and horizontal stab look to be in perfect shape still. Here is the maiden's landing -

Well I finally got to go out today and re-maiden the Lite-120. I actually think it flew better then before the crash. RE: *Aeroworks 50cc S2 Sport Cub Build*
Well I think I've got it all wrapped up and ready for a Spring Maiden [:D]. Final CG turned out perfect. I painted the hub caps and got them screwed onto the Tundra Tires (white with red lettering). I decided to keep the pilot install as KISS as possible. I had some SPAD plastic sheeting left, cut it out to fit as seen and painted it with an outdoor textured grey/dark grey. Epoxied the pilot on hopefully in about the right Full Scale position. I used some industrial strength double sided foam tape across 3 different places on the tank and set it in. The tank height is perfect for it to just fit below the window sills. We now know Spring is getting closer. We've actually had 4 days in the high 40's and see some flights of geese and ducks headed over [8D] You can also tell who the 'locals' are by going to Home Depot and seeing all of us wearing just t-shirts with no coats thinking it must be summer [:D] Of course for those folks who are just passing through with the southern plates on their cars they are wondering if we've gone crazy during the winter since they are still all bundled up in there down jackets [X(]

RE: CALLING ALL PIPER CUBS!
Actually already working on something like that. I've got a lite piece of plastic sheeting that I think will be easy to cut and fit pretty easily. It would be supported on the left side by the top of cabin where the window seats and your throttle would be. The tank will support it in the middle. About the only thing I'll need to do is shorten the pin for the On/Off fail safe switch and slide the tubing on the top of the tank down just over the sides. A small piece of carbon fiber ran along the right side will support that side to keep it straight. I already have the extension built and in place for the door handle so I'll just make a slot for it to fit up through. Great minds think alike [:D][;)][8D] Well once again I can't post any pictures ............[>:] (hope they get the bugs worked out soon on all of these problems........... Hi DougBi - The space behind the panel to firewall is only about 4 to 5". I looked at putting it below the plate it's on in the space built for the optional canister muffler, but decided it was to low. I think where it's at right now is about it. Well here is what the instrument panel turned out like. I found a PDF of the full scale panel I liked on CubCrafters.com site, and then my brother disassembled the whole PDF image and re-sized the gauges etc so they would fit the panel that came with the plane. I think it turned out pretty cool and adds just a little bit more to it overall. I also received the Robart Tundra Tires I ordered through Aero-Works. I'll have to paint the hub caps red to match the plane and then decal CUB in the middle of them. Anyone know what kind of air pressure to pump the tires up to? I was thinking about 2 or 3 pounds if I can find something to measure PSI that low.......

RE: *Aeroworks 50cc S2 Sport Cub Build*
Well I got some help from my brother and he dialed in the sizes of the gauges and panel instruments on his computer and printed them out on the decal paper I bought. DO NOT use the clear, your decals just disappear and appear as black even though they appear the same while on the transfer paper. The white worked perfect. I also got the Tundra tires on but I might see if I can find some aluminum hubs for them, anybody have any leads? These are just the 6" Du-Bro tires I bought through Aero Works. About the only thing left to do now is re-check the CG on it to check whether the tires are going to make a difference (and I meant to weigh them before I swapped them out too!!), and to double check battery placement is where I needed it after hanging it off the CG rope the first time. Well once again it appears I can't upload pictures (SO WHAT'S UP WITH THAT!! I hope RCU gets things figured out soon). I guess if you want to see the decals your going to have to go to my RC site again (sorry, it's not my fault [;)][X(] ). For those of us in Northern Wyoming/South Central Montana you can't go wrong in Billings, Montana. RE: CALLING ALL PIPER CUBS!
Well I thought I might try to post pictures of my Aeroworks S2 Super Cub. It's been a nice build with high quality parts and a sturdy plane. I've got a DA-50 in the nose. They send a pretty cool jig with rope handle designed to help get the CG set perfect on it, which is where I was of course at the time of this pictures. About all I've got left right now is to work on detailing the instrument panel and setting the throws on the control surfaces. Only thing after that is to wait for Spring and for about 2 foot of snow to melt. If anyone is interested in seeing a bunch of pictures of the build on this thing you can see it here on my little RC site - [link=http://gputt33.multiply.com/photos/album/89/The_Aeroworks_S2_Super_Cub_Project]Putt's RC Home Page - Photos[/link] If it flys like any of the other Aeroworks birds it should be a keeper [:D]

Is that close to the rest of you guys builds for weight?? Rx batteries will end up against the firewall to get the tail up level for the CG. Oh, and I guess I will have the cockpit instruments on decal paper this week sometime after the paper gets here. Now all I need is for Spring to get here [:o] [8D] [:D]. Had a heck of a blizzard blow through today, but at least that let me stay out in the shop all day [:D] I'd post the final pics but same as the other night, it won't let me upload anything. SLPN - Thanks for the detail look. Got home, read this and went out and looked and sure enough both sides had the servo arms pointed at the floor. I MAY have found it, the last thing I do on any build is to start from page one of the instructions when I get finished and go through every nut, bolt, wire, etc etc, page by page, and make sure they are correct, loc-tited etc etc..... As of right now though they are both looking up. I kept looking at the tail and it always looked weird to me that the connecting arm made a cross pattern with the pull pull cable. Definitely looks better now [:D] JK13 - Glad you liked the link and my pictures. I'm afraid if you get to looking in there you can spend several hours [8D] Later guys
