RE: Question for P100-RX Owners
ORIGINAL: rshadroui I am a new owner of a P-100 so I have been reading all your posts on the problen with the engine. I have only one flight on the engine with it set to verry slow and had no problems.I am far from an expert on the engine but I have an adea on the re doing the pitch of the turbine blades. If you look at the intake turbine the blades they are cast and canot be bent or adjusted. But if you look at the blades at the rear of the engine the blades do not appear to be cast. THEY LOOK LIKE THEY ARE STAMPED OUT OF HIGH TEMP STEEL. I bleave these are the blades they are talking about adjusting the pitch so to increas the air flow into the engine.
P100 101. The front component is generally called the "compressor" and on the 100 is milled from a stock of billet on a 5 axis CNC machine. Most all compressors are done this way now. They used to use auto turbocharger blanks that were cast. The back is called the turbine wheel and that is high pressure casting made from Inconel. There is no way to adjust the turbine blades outside of milling them and I doubt very seriously that you could bend the compressor blades without weakening them. S

Carf Paint match
If anyone is interested I have found the paint match for the commonly used red on Carf models. Eurosport, Old flash, Rookie and probably a few others. It is a GM color and is called Torch Red. Used on 1995-about 2002 or so Corvettes. It is a perfect match and any paint store can mix it with this info. If you want it in a rattle can DupliColor used to sell it but no longer make it. You can still find it around if you search. Scotty

RE: Redundant RX packs are they overkill?
What Ron said about the old saw of one dead pack draining the good pack- Like most of the stuff coming out of Washington it just is not true. I have always used two packe running thru two switches into two ports. Check each one individually at start up. Turn number one on and check voltage, turn number two on and switch off the number one, check voltage then turn number one back on. If weight is an issue run two 1100 Ma A123s packs. They weigh very little and gives you 2200 total Ma.Scotty

RE: Running a turbine at full power non stop? Damaging?
Dont overthink this guys. If you want to run a full tank out at full power go ahead. Remember that turbins flame out at full power all the time due to air bubbles. To be on the safe side just watch the uat and as soon as the main tank is dry and you see the UAT level dropping throttle back and shut down as usual. Another way is put a measured amount of fuel in a dry tank, (say 16 oz or so) run at full power till tank empty and calculate based on tank volume. Scotty

RE: What can cause a turbine to overheat?
You didnt say how much time on the engine. It could just have worn out. As the tolerances get out of whack the ECU keep pumping in more fuel trying to maintain the required RPM/throttle setting. The extra fuel just makes more heat. Scotty

Pot stirring does nothing to help the hysteria around the AMA/FAA issues at this time. Scotty

RE: Best turbine, best service?
A 13 pound engine is perfect for that airframe. They flew fantastic with old ram 500s at 11 pounds of thrust. You dont need any more. If you insist on overpowering it put in a P100. But you will probably break that airframe. S
