This shot of my Monocoupe was taken by MinnFlyer at this year's Joe Nall. It does appear to be flying with the tail a bit low now that y'all mention it [:-]

I can nolonger claim a dispute with Paypal. has anyone had their orders come through yet? If yes what timescales did you get? I am not talking last year or so just wondering for recent orders? My order number is 1160 and am still waiting. I send Doug 1 email every day to all 3 of his email adds and still no response. I know he has been unwell but still he has been sitting on my cash for too long!! I fear waiting 5 months or so like others in this post have with no guarantees. christian
I waited exactly 5 months and 5 days for my first set. Just under four weeks for my second set.
ORIGINAL: TOMAPOWA
I happen to believe that statements made about a business or product with which someone has had no direct experience are less credible than the OPINIONS expressed by those of us who've at least paid their dues.
''Paid their dues'' ??? Are you really saying that you have to order from someone, get burned & angry... in order to be credible? OMG[&:]
That's exactly what I'm saying. It's not that hard to understand. I'm sure you've heard the well worn advertising slogan "Ask the man who owns one." It's not an alien concept... unless you live under a rock.
That's like saying that you won't break a leg jumping off your roof.... so to be ''credible'', you jump off only to learn that you broke your leg (or more). Does this really makes sense?.... I didn't think so. Some things are glaringly obvious.... no need to ''experience'' something when it is really unneccesary.
There is no arguing with logic like that [8|] No need to confuse people with something like FACTS when OPINIONS are so much more fun.
And on top of that, here you are bad-mouthing another Co. (Dick's) when in fact you never ''experienced'' a sale from him..... touche
I didn't say a single bad thing about Dick's company. I simply said that I personally would not do business with him. You and everyone else are free to make your own choices, same as I.
You know, I own a very small R/C gadget company too... I manufacture my own PCBs, solder every project and test/package/mail every package... all on my own. There are some weeks I have no time to build anything. The way I operate is if you see something ''In-Stock'' on my store.... it is in fact IN-STOCK..... ready to ship. If I don't have a product ready to sell, I do not list it as in-stock on my store.... pretty simple eh?
Nope, didn't know that.
ORIGINAL: Larry3215 Ive been trying to stay out of this - I sold my LADOS, thanks! BUT - you guys defending Doug so hard are not thinking your comments through very well and you are doing him no favors. In fact I think your largely the cause of many of the strong negative comments and a lot of the up-set. First of all, since when does some one have to OWN a product to have an opinion about it or about how a business is run? Since when do you have to OWN a product to talk about it? I believe this is an OPEN forum. Free for all to comment on any post by anyone. Really now thats a silly thing to say. This board and ALL the boards I belong to are full of comments and opinions posted by people who dont own the product being discussed. Look at ANY build thread or ANY complaint thread or pretty much ANY thread period. Dick has every right to express his opinions and you have no right to try to shut him up. If you want to help Doug, Id suggest you STOP attacking the people he has screwed over and the people who just happen to have an opinion and want to express it - as is their right.
I'm not trying to shut anybody up and am certainly not defending Doug. I'm simply pointing out a lack of credibility. I happen to believe that statements made about a business or product with which someone has had no direct experience are less credible than the OPINIONS expressed by those of us who've at least paid their dues. Dick can post his self-righteous and self-serving messages all he wants, that's his privilege and it's my privilege to point out that I think he's piling on and it's your privilege to rant about whatever's on your mind.
ORIGINAL: reyn3545 OK.. an update to my previous update. I found another new home for my 450. A Jim Pepino Waco. It was here on RCU, and for the money, I couldn't pass it up. The Stearman kit is still coming in, but I may let it sit for a while... So, if anyone wants a 1/4 scale Stearman full kit, wheels, struts, tail piece, wingtubes, plans, yadda, yadda, yadda... I know where they can pick it up cheap! I think the Waco will be a better plane for me.. 4 ailerons, a little more wing area, a little less weight... oughta float right down if I can get it balanced.
Sounds like a great match for your engine. Please post some pics (and video) when you get it together.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
The great thing about our hobby is that it offers something for almost any interest. I'm not a scratch builder and really don't care to be. I'm more of an "engine guy" and especially love a good four stroke... the more complicated the better. The airframe to me is just what is necessary and "right" to carry that engine. I want it to be reasonably scale and it must look good but I don't have the time or skill to roll my own. I have great respect for those that do, but it ain't my particular bag. Getting a cool engine tuned and running well and then listening to it sing as it flies by in a good looking plane is what scratches my itch. What does it for somebody else will likely be entirely different but that's okay by me. I think there's room enough at the flyin' field for all of us. [:)]

RE: New Pacific Aeromodel Clip Wing Monocoupe
ORIGINAL: reyn3545 OK Saito experts... I have a question. I've been flying gas for about 3 years, but thinking about a big radial Saito. I've read through this Monocoupe thread, and it looks like the 170 would be a good fit. I may go that route, but I was really looking at the 450. It's way overkill for this plane, but it seems almost underpowered and too heavy for something in the 50cc range. Has anyone use the 450 with success in anything but a warbird (hate them), or should I just save the extra dough and go with the monocoupe and a 170? Sorry to hijack the thread!
The 4.50 would be a whole lot of engine for this plane. You'd most likely need some weight in the tail. I'm not sure it would fit inside the cowl either. The five cylinder 3.25 would be a better fit but is still overkill and pretty heavy as well. I've been flying this plane with the 1.70 for many flights and it's a great match. I didn't have to add any ballast to get it to balance. I'm just an hour or so south of you and would be happy to show you the plane and demo how it flies. Send me a pm if you'd like to have a look.
ORIGINAL: Larry3215 You guys just dont get it. Its NOT the waiting. Did you hear me this time? IT'S NOT THE WAITING! Its being lied to - over and over and over again - thats what gets people mad and keeps them mad. Its the repeated lies that make people think he is ripping them off. Its the repeated lies that make people think he is a con artist. Its the fact that Doug's e-mail system works perfectly when your first trying to make the sale but all of a sudden after the sale its spam city and you e-mails never get answered. Its the lies on top of lies that will sink him. It is not and never has been the waiting. The waiting is certainly not good but thats not whats going to kill his business.
(slaps forehead) Ohhhhh... so it's NOT the waiting? I gotta write that down somewhere. [:)] Doug could address most of his problems by hiring a $15/hour adminstrative temp to handle responding to customers. (He would also benefit greatly by learning and implimenting Lean Manufacturing concepts but that's a whole 'nother kettle-o-fish). I told Doug many times myself that I didn't mind the wait, I didn't want my money back, all I wanted was an honest ETA for when I'd get my order and a call or an email if problems came up that would prevent him from hitting the ETA. A simple and reasonable thing to expect. I finally got my first order exactly 5 months and 5 days after placing it but it took an inordinate number of calls and emails to Doug in order to get it. The next order took only a few weeks.

The 90T is one sweet little engine. I have no idea what engine is recommended for the TopFlite Cessna 182. My comment was referencing putting a 182 into a 182. Sounded like a heckuva lot of engine for that plane but that's his call, not mine. I'm flying a 1.30 twin in a 9' wingspan Nosen Champ and have much more than scale power. Your 90T would probably be a great match for scale performance on that airframe as well.

Congratulations on the successful maiden flight! Sounds like the first few minutes were exciting. Sorry about the blast of hot air for the landing (LOL @ Wally). You'll find that you won't need nearly so much speed for landing once you've had some time to get comfortable with the flight envelope. Glad the 1.60 Gemini is adequate. There's a N.I.B. My battery pack for the onboard glow (4-cell, sub-C) is mounted directly behind the engine and in front of the firewall. My Rx pack (5-cell, sub-C) is directly behind the firewall. Fortunately the big Enya v-twin is heavy enough that I don't have any lead hanging anywhere on the plane. When I first had it powered with the Saito 1.70 radial it needed 26 ounces of lead mounted to the firewall. I'm now a firm believer in only adding weight that contributes to turning the prop [:)]
