ORIGINAL: diamondave wcurtis i know its not your fault, but you can keep it in the back of your mind theres at least 1 complaint about bax global, hopefully they are better in other cities or something, honestly i wasnt going to work on it tonight or tomorrow, but i wanted to take it out of th ebox and look at it, i want it under my roof, and i really wanted to take it out of the box and look at it!!!
My expericene with Bax was just the opposite. They called me on my cell telling me they were going to be at my house in 20 minutes and I asked them to leave the boxes on the front porch since I couldn't leave work at that moment, and they said they would. I was able to get away for lunch and when I got home the (massive pile [:)]) of boxes was waiting on the porch. My guess is every location is only as good as the people at that location.

Thanks Fred! Using a rx per float certainly keeps the wiring down to a minimum. It's cool, but expensive. [:@] I'll bet that the batteries, one per float, gave you enough weight to attain the proper CG w/out additional weight...

Buy what you like and can afford. Testing has proven that both JR/Spektrum DSM2 and Futata FASST are very imune to 2.4 Ghz noise. The technical differences between the two are mostly philosophic and of little practical consequence. I like Futaba and have a 12z/TM-14, and my friend has the DX-7 and x9303 and neither of us could be happier.
ORIGINAL: EdChristian I first removed the 4 cowl screws. Next I removed the 2 muffler screws. Be careful getting the muffler out as there is a gasket on the muffler. It is kind of tight getting it out of the hole in the cowling, but it will come. Next remove the 2 screws on the carburator. Again use caution when removing it. Then the cowl should come off. Good Luck Ed
This is what I did. Getting the muffler out from under the cowl can be a little tricky. You need to wiggle it around until it drops out. On the other side you only need to remove the velocity stack from the carb to remove the cowl. I removed the stack and put the bolts back to hold the carb on while removing the cowl and making the changes/fixes that I made...
ORIGINAL: EdChristian I talked to Jeff at Horizon Hobby tech support last night and he wants me trying to turn the Electronic Ignition Module around so the label is facing the firewall and Side "D" is facing the engine crankcase. So I will try that and see what happens. Still wondering if anyone else has had the cowl off of the PNP and how the module was mounted. Thanks Ed
I've had the cowl off of my PnP to replace a missing motor mount and to remove that bulky Y-connector that is in the fuel line. I also replaced the yellow fuel line and installed a fuel filter whilst I was in there... While I had the cowl off I noticed that the ignition was hard mounted to the firewall, but did not notice its orientation. My cowl is currently on how will I know if the D side is away from the firewall? BTW my floats arrived today. They sure are pretty!

RE: 12FG and Z.....vs...14Z
The one issue that comes to my mind is does the 12FG support the MPDX-1 Multi-Proportional System Decoder? Since you are flying jets the extra virtual channels may be of interest... Futaba's feature comparison can be found here: http://www.futaba-rc.com/radios/feature-compare.html I chose the 12z over the 12FG primarly because I wanted LiIon batteries, better gimbals, compact flash memory, and a tx case. I never considered the 14MZ because of the cost... I also think the 12z programming is about the same as the 14MZ and both offer features above and beyond the 12FG.

RE: 2.4 Ghz - Failure rate comparaison between manufacturers
ORIGINAL: DrDiscus I heard the Futaba system has a problem. The manufacturer blames the 2.7 volt signal pulse, since msot eq uses 3.0 volts. So the servos must be Futaba. To me...I hear scuttlebut that Futaba don't work, and contrary to the Spektrum. JR I hear nothing. Normally I'd buy a JR. I'm not that wealthy. So my conclusion is to go with Spektrum. My question, is the talk about Futaba bull, that IT really is rock solid with all Futaba equipment? Or does Futaba need to rethink the Fasst electronics, or start over?
I've been using FASST for months w/out any problems at all. I personally think FASST is better, but there is nothing wrong with JR/Spektrum so buy the one you like, or can afford, and go fly. As far as scuttlebut about JR/Spektrum problems, there have been several and they have been discussed ad nauseam on this site...

My own testing showed that the servos stopped working before the rx shutdown due to low voltage. I don't know at what voltage this occurred, but it proved to me that the rx will not be the weak link in a low voltage situation.

I had that problem on the two that I am assembling... My solution was to epoxy the aft 3/4 of the fin length, and use masking tape stretched across from wing tip to wing tip and T-pins to secure the back. Once the back was secure I pushed the front down to have firm contact with the sheeting and used thin CA to attach the front 1/4. The CA held and the epoxy set up and so far so good. The fins are straight and seem secure. First flights will be next week so we'll soon know how durable the CA will be...
