That was very resourceful of you, tiffitech. You turned an otherwise unusable engine into a good one by correcting this flaw. [;)] That is what I like about the modeling community, the ability to turn useless bits of balsa, foam and metal into instruments worthy of flight! [:D]

At this point I have already glued the stock cheek cowls in place, so I am beyond the point of no return. Of course I have The Real Thing kit I plan to build in future, so it holds definite possibilities. [:D]

Today I completed covering the wing for my Q-Tee. I have the TT GP-07 temporarily in place in the engine compartment. Interestingly enough, some time back I downloaded some data someone had compiled on a number of engines. The horsepower and RPM figures between the TT TP-07 and Cox .074 Queen Bee were similar. I suppose this was to be expected as both are sport engines rather than high performance engines.

At this point if you can't find that picture, [b]1QwkSport2.5r[/b], not to worry, I take your word for it. I have a pension for the odd engines, already accumulated steel sleeve / iron piston ones, have engines using plain bearing aluminum crankcase without bronze sleeve, etc. They were good solid engines but need to be treated right. The Sportster is my most recent acquisition, but for a cause, mainly CL. I tend to keep my stuff for a long time, so they definitely will not be abused by the fuel.

What you state has a conservative approach but not without reason, [b]1QwkSport2.5r[/b]. I grew up in the all Castor fuel era and it used to be before that one did not have to worry about the fuel that they used, whether it was safe or not for the engine. One just bought and enjoyed. I am told that the Sportster (in this case mine is a .20) is a very good engine for CL use. It is frugal on fuel and spins a 10x5 prop all day. I am told it has about the power of an OS .25 FP or LA. Of course the CL fliers use 24% oil content in a rich wet setting with a mild amount of nitro for smooth running. Under those conditions the engine lasts a long time. Interesting that Benol doesn't mix well with O'Donnells fuel, since Tower Hobbies (Hobbico) bought O'Donnells and Klotz Benol is the Castor oil they sell.

Nice looking solution there, Ken and neat work. Having throttle on it is a throwback to a friend's Testor P-26 with throttled .049 Wen Mac during the early 1970's. Had a third line on a ring slipped over the middle finger to control throttle.

Of course it would reduce the amount of nitro. But you are correct, usually it is cheaper just to buy the right fuel, unless the shop will not accept fuel returns. Problem is nearly all modern fuels lack adequate oil for especially the older steel cylindered with soft steel or iron piston engines, and even for some of the ABC's. I'm finding that even some ruined the AAC K&B Sportster engines by running too lean or with inadequate oil. I had a recent E-Bay buy where the seller claimed excellent compression. It came with zero compression. After disassembling, I found that the squishband (upper) portion of the chrome plated aluminum piston was missing its chrome plating. Fortunately, a CL friend sent me two parts engines. From the three I now have one good one.

Some nice kit bashing there, [b]steveshobbyroom[/b]. I don't see why it can't work. 16 oz. seems on par, although I have never weighed my results, but AFAIK that is typical for this size of aircraft, perhaps a touch lighter as an electric battery pack adds a touch (but not much, IMO). The Q-Tee has ample wing area in comparison to say the Minnie Mambo, which has a touch less. I can use Minnie's wing on the Q-Tee, but it is about 1.5 inches shorter on chord. (It has the same chord as the rubber banded center section of Q-Tee.) I've got the wing covered in Monokote, just need to trim the top application, then heat shrink both top and bottom.

In 1977, I had purchased Mattel single channel pulse on the surplus market for $40 by mail. I installed it in a Carl Goldberg .049 1/2-A Skylane, a really nice looking airplane. Lost it in a strong updraft during the start of a thunderstorm. In 1978, I bought an Ace R/C single channel pulse on 72 MHz, with KRD sequential engine servo. Installed it in a Sterling Mini Mambo with Cox .049 R/C Bee engine. Also built Top Flite Schoolmaster with OS Max .10 R/C and same radio. Both would loop like crazy with many successful flights. Also flew Airtronics Q-Tee, first as single with the Ace and auxiliary throttle, after as two channel digital. Prior to the 1970's, and into the '70s, built at least a dozen .049 U/C airplanes - Scientific F6F Hellcat (in 1965), Little Bipe, FB-109 Messersmidt, P-51 Mustang, own design F4F Wildcat profile, Goldberg Little Toot bipe, Sterling Beginner's Eindecker, Hellcat, Top Flite Mitsubishi Zero, etc. Also built many freeflight aircraft starting 5th grade on. These were Comet Fokker D-VII, Spad, Bellanca Jr., Sparky, P-40 Warhawk, P-51 (best flying one), Ryan, Porterfield Collegiate, Curtiss Robin, Scientific Cessna 170, Guillows Cessna Birddog, Dehaviland Chipmunk, etc. Perhaps that is why I had very good luck when starting off with R/C, all the building and trimming experience with free flight and building with control line. As you can tell, I really liked flying model airplanes. [:D]
