RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
ORIGINAL: rc theman I've replaced them multiple times, and they all did the same thing. I think I'm going to buy The Toyz driveshaft setup for the XS and see if I can get rid of this dogbone setup
I would suggest that you do not waste your money on the CVD set up, they are not stronger than the dog bones (might actually be weaker?) and cost 3 times as much. I have broken two axle ends and bent two more, but I have also broken 2 CVDs (one of them didn't even make it through a whole pack before it broke). I would much rather replace the ends which are 2 for $10 each time vs 2 CVDs for $35. I have the HR hardened ones on my XS now, so we'll see if those last any longer.

I only did speed runs because I was a little worried about the ESC, but it held up fine. The only problem is that it is difficult to keep the front wheels on the ground. I flipped it onto it's lid a few times while running at nearly full speed and it was fun, but I will stick to 2S for bashing and 3S for speed runs only.
ORIGINAL: 209mark123 I have had a problem with those pins coming out to. I ended up getting a set of hot racing CVD's I would say they work great but after about 5 packs on them one of them snapped today. I dont know if the hpi cvds are any better or if its just better to stick with dogbones.
I purchased the HPI CVD and they snapped pretty quickly too. I would just suggest buying stock axles since they are fairly cheap compared to CVDs.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
ORIGINAL: Skylife i dont like that truck . ok i'm gonna buy Savage XS flux . i am new at Brushless systems . i dont have batteries and chargers anymore . i want to order '' really good '' lipo batteries without any problems . http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__11956__Turnigy_nano_tech_5000mah_3S_45_90C_Lipo_Pack.html is this fit ? and give me a charger advice ? In my opinion ; IMAX B6AC Pro is good charger/balancer . What do you think about it ? Thanks for every advice .
The battery you have listed in this ^ post will not fit, it is too big for the tray. I love my XS, it is fast enough on 2S to do anything I could want to do. I have jumped mine quite a bit and have only broken one lower shock mount, which was easy to fix because a replacement was included with the truck. I have had no problems with my ESC and have run at least 30 2S packs through it. I have a 3S and used it once to do a standing backflip in my living room, but after one flip, the ESC and motor were pretty warm, so I have not tried it again. The XS is plenty fast on 2S anyway. The only real problem I have had is with axles breaking. I tried the CVD's but they snapped off faster than stock axles and are 3x the price. It would be a much better idea to buy three sets of stock axles than one set of CVD's. I recently received hardened parts from Hot Racing, but really haven't had time to use them much because the weather is too bad. Overall, I would suggest this truck, it is really fun.

Now I just need to find someone that has new axles... I guess I will have a two wheel drive XS for a while.

RE: Official HPI Savage Flux XS thread...
I finally got my Savage XS and even though the weather is terrible, I still was able to get this truck out and start bashing it. Unfortunately I have almost completely broken the right rear upright twice cartwheeling after a "not so good" landing. Tonight was the killer though, as I broke the left front axle after what seemed like a fairly routine landing off a small jump. I am wondering if anyone else has broken this part and if so, how do you take the front upright apart to take out the broken part and replace it with a new one (assuming I can find one that is)? I removed the steering knuckle and see that there are some pins in it, but how do I remove the pins? Thanks for any help you all can give. I really love this little truck it is super fun to drive.

Funny how the release is so clouded, sites are reporting in stock, out of stock, expected dates changing daily. I am growing tired of waiting, I wish HPI would just give us a release date...

Thanks for the responses guys, I will keep my eye out for a cheap nitro to convert. Any suggestions on what makes the best nitro to electric converts?
ORIGINAL: SyCo_VeNoM lol man the df-02 was never meant for that kinda power or anything near it ;) you so crazy :D
Yes, I am crazy and it was hilarious to see this heap of junk do a standing backflip!!! I wish I would have filmed it. I just need something tougher. @ Dragonii, As cool as your monster xx looks, it still has a plastic spur that will snap and you will be left with a cool looking paper weight. I like the ease of electric, but if there is a good nitro for bashing, I'll look into it.

RE: Official MONSTER XX Truck Thread
Just thought I would post an update since using this truck for a while. It is not strong enough for me, I constantly am breaking things on it (shock mount, shocks, body mounts, body and many spur gears). Even though I enjoy repairing it, I would rather spend more time driving. I tried a 3s lipo and it was really cool when I hit the throttle and did a standing backflip, but when I hit the throttle a second time, I broke another spur gear. If the spur gear was easier to replace and a little easier to obtain, it wouldn't be a big deal, but to get more I have to order them online and it takes a considerable amount of effort to replace this part. Overall, I am greatful that this truck got me back into r/c, but it is not tough enough to have fun bashing around. If anyone has suggestions on a great truck to bash, I would love to hear them. It appears that the HPI Savage XS Flux that is due to be released soon looks pretty good, but I am waiting to hear more reviews of it.
ORIGINAL: XGAMER777 hey Gangster_Elmo, Are you using the 70 spur with the 17T pinion? Yeah I've read the robinson gear are really good. I'm still using stock.
Yes, I am using the stock 70 spur with the 17T pinion from Tower Hobbies http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXEX40&P=7 and it fits better than the stock 16T, plus the quality is WAY better

RE: Official MONSTER XX Truck Thread
Thanks for the information XGAMER777. I did order the motor mount you suggested and also ordered a 17T Robinson Racing steel pinion and have not had any problems with the spur since I installed them. The 17T pinion fits better and is much higher quality than the one that came stock. I have checked spur since the upgrade (after 3 hard bashing sessions) and it actually looks really good and I have been bashing this truck very hard since just to see if it would hold up and it has...too bad I can't say the rest of the truck is holding up. The body is pretty much in pieces and I broke one of the shock mounts when I flipped the car into a sign. I am having quite a bit of fun bashing this car and with the proper pinion, the drivetrain can take the increased power of a brushless system.

RE: Official MONSTER XX Truck Thread
Thanks for the tips XGamer777, I did adjust the punch and a few other things on the ESC and it seems to work a lot better, so time will tell if the spur will hold up or not? I am pretty sure I have the motor mounted correctly, I used the same pinion and mounted the motor in the same position that the stock motor was mounted. The gears appear to be meshing well, but how do I know for sure? I am new to rc, so sorry if I am kind of a noob. Thanks for you help

RE: Official MONSTER XX Truck Thread
I just got a Monster XX for free from a friend because the stock battery would not longer hold a charge. After doing some online research, I found this thread and became very interested in upgrading my truck. I got a new 4500 NiMH battery and had some fun bashing around my yard, but couldn't help but want more power. I found a cheap EZRun ESC and Tacon brushless motor on hobbypartz.com and installed them and WOW this thing is to fast to control now. Of course this brings me to my problem, the plastic spur gear can't hold up to the power of the new set up and I already blew one up and the second one sounds like it is about to go too. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the spur gear last longer? Or is there a stronger one available for this truck? I know that I am probably just exceeding the capability of this entry level truck, but I was just hoping someone might have some suggestion? I did make a youtube video of my truck before and after http://youtu.be/pnbMYjl574E
