RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH
ORIGINAL: joe831ny How do you (or your son) like them on the pede? If you do go brushless they will definitely balloon like crazy and look like pizza cutters. Taping is not just for racers, imagine how much control you loose riding on such a thin contact patch. I would also recommend balancing them. On the pede you could just put all the tires on the front stub one at a time, spin them and see where they stop and add some clay to the top.
The tires for his Pede didnt come yet. I ordered separate wheels and tires so I will certainly tape them. For my MGT i ordered the pre- mounts (much less expensive for some reason to have them mount it) I guess its a "bundle" pricing thing. Good video. The large tires on my MGT don't have to spin anywhere near the rpm of the smaller tires to achieve the same speed but I realize there is still significant ballooning going on. The truck isnt going to be WOT often and mostly bottom ending... Looking forward to them

I may put my Big Joes up on Ebay if I love the Trenchers and may try the Badlands. I thought about buying them separate to strap them but its even more expensive that way, and i'm just bashing not racing. I pulled the trigger on some Trenchers mounted to Tech 5 wheels at amain hobbies. Best price and free shipping. 77.00 and change, not bad. Yep, the 3.8 are pricey...

Trying to buy some used Trenchers or Badlands on Ebay but very disappointing. Most all listings are new and from dealers that try to hit you up with huge shipping charges. I can get cheaper from amain hobbies. The one used set of trenchers I found and bid on went up to 60.00! I can get them new for a little more.
ORIGINAL: Voxmagna lmao might need to get it shimmed
The ring and pinion gear look good, it was one of the spider gears. A couple of teeth just seemed to have broken off one of them. It also appears to have had very little fluid inside. I'm rebuilding it and filling with some heavy weight fluid. Joe, I think the older MGT's also have the hinged front body post and quick clip on the back as my 8.0 does. Some people just prefer running without the bodies on, but I enjoy it more when the truck looks like a truck. I actually am bidding on a set of Trenchers mounted on Desperado wheels on ebay. I also just bought a set of Trenchers and wheels for my sons Pede. I'd like to also try out some Badlands. It would be much more of a stadium truck with those smaller tires

RE: Jato 3.3 Idle problem
When it does return to low idle, after several seconds as you describe can it remain idling steady for at least 10-15 seconds or more? If so, have you tried pinching the fuel line after its idling for about 10 seconds to get an idea of the LSN setting? Aside from an air leak as others mentioned, it could be the needles are not cleaned completely. If your not familar with adjusting nitro engines i would suggest returning it to the shop that did the work and get them to make it right.

Actually i think we are over here on this road, in Blue. Not a problem because as long as anyone drives up near the center where the roads meet there are orange cones all around and we will be easy to find. Joe, that tranny case looked good. It should act as a big heat sink. Got it yet?

I think i will be out at FBF this Sunday from bout 11-3. Not the track, the bashing spot shown in the pics that Joe posted on 8/14/12. Got the RPM axle carriers and the Integy 6mm offset 17mm hubs which look to be very nicely made and fit perfectly. The big joes look and feel real solid on this set up now. Real test will be bashing it. See ya'll there Sunday BTW Joe, the Yeah Racing motor heat sink fits perfectly on my sons Stampede. Looks real nice too.

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH
Had a cool time out with Joe running at FBF. Got my Big Joe's on the truck but man do they eat up engine power... Look great and handle better (less flipping because of the wide stance) These would be great in snow or sand too...their like snow shoes. Joe brought his ramp, but we really need two or three to place them together. My truck is about as wide as the ramp so setting up for a jump was very challenging. This is a good place to meet up for some quick bashing. There is a small dirt area that we were running in, then there is endless flat pavement and a bunch of gravel and dirt mounds from some construction going on. I'm going out again tomorrow, weather permitting about 11:30 - 2 Hopefully Joe and some others can make it out.

RE: mgt 8.0 s50 engine breakin
ORIGINAL: Goatcrapp Be careful with the taller bodies like the grave digger - this motor loves to overheat if you don't have good ventilation.
Absolutely true. I'm surprised AE does not have a hole cut out in the windshield of these RTR kits...they might reduce the number of calls to their customer support line. I find the 8.0 engine to be very easy and reliable, with plenty of power. Just make sure to ventilate it. If your engine ever starts to run eratic or stalls, etc. don't go crazy adjusting the tuning. Just change the glow plug first. Most often a bad plug is the culprit. (just because the engine runs does not mean the plug is good)

No prob, another time. I just got back, stayed till bout 1:30. Feels good to have the truck running well. I still have it slightly on the rich side, but it does pop some impressive wheelies lol. The soft suspension and soft rubber are terrible on the pavement though. There was some dirt area off the pavement and the setup seems very good on that. If anyone is down, I'd like to head over to the Gerritsen Beach spot during the week sometime, There is some sand, but lots of packed areas too. More rolling bumps and rough terrain than appears in the photos. Let me know if anyones interested.

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH
Joe, the queens spot looks fine, where your dog was running after the truck. Great soundtrack to that video, btw. Where is it? Yeah, the gated "park" on fountain ave is actually a giant landfill visible from the belt parkway while driving past the BJ's shopping center. Grass covered mountain... Voxmagna, got my engine yesterday and the carburateur slide valve was stuck.. I applied oil and managed to slide it back and forth and its better but not perfect. QC is not good there. :( I took the carb off my original engine and swapped it. Swapped the flywheel, clutch and bell and installed the engine. Attempted to start it up yesterday evening and it gave me the same trouble as the original engine....no start. Glow plugs, good. Igniter seemed fine. Scratching my head. I feel the compression, its a new engine. Its gotta at least fire. Turns out, after much frustration, the Integy igniter I had was flakey. It worked when I pulled the plug and tested it but right side up, as i would have it on the installed plug, it would not work consistently. Seems it does not make strong contact with the plug and when placed onj plug while on engine it is eratic.. I used the iginter that came with the MGT 8.0 and it fired right up. Got it broken in today and just need another day of fine tuning. Cut a hole in the windshield and making sure the engine temp is ok. Running excellent so far, fires right up, runs forever with no stalling.. I'm thinking there is a good possibility the original engine is ok. That flashy looking Integy igniter turns out to be crap and cost me a lot of grief.... Also, I replaced the metal spring on the brake linkage with some fuel tubing and now this beast can stop on a dime. It practically comes up on its front wheels in a hard stop. When my new steering servo comes and I switch the original steering servo to the throttle/brake its gonna stand on two front wheels... Dont like the original tires much, looking forward to the Big Joes.

Voxmagna, yeah. The AE Engine warranty sucks really. I went with a new one and will hold on to this one for extra parts. Eventually I may order a piston and sleeve and see if I can rebuild it and get it running.

Voxmagna, ever try the bigger clutch bell in the truck? My 8.0 comes with a 20T clutch bell and was very brutal on the low end. I'm thinking the 23T CB would still have good pop on low end but attaingreat to speed. Whatddya think?

So the brushless motor will fit in the Stampede? Will it work with the NIMH for the time being? If so, that is a generous deal and my biggest expense would be the lipo charger and a couple of 2S packs.

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH
Its blue I dont think it has low voltage cutoff. My son-in-law has a brushless Slash and it stopped working for a while. he uses the 3000mah NIMH batteries that came with it. His friend borowed it and used a lipo in it. when he returned it the truck wouldnt run. He brought it to Brooklyn hobbies and they couldnet fugure it out and told him to run Lipos. i took the truck and figured out it was the ESC set to LVD and not able to run the NIMH in that mode. I went on Traxxas website and figured out how to set it back to run NIMH. Now it runs well. Yes, there is the 1/2 power mode for novices. Thats a thought.
