RE: Sig SU-31 Sukhoi ARF
I know I was so fed up after trying to get the landing gear on for 2 hours that I switched them to hex bolts - much easier!
ORIGINAL: Dave Bushong I used a 3000 mah 3.7V battery with the Zenoah ignition. GasDoctor at what voltage do you stop flying and recharge your Lipo? Thanks for the info
To be honest, I don't check the voltage. One of the best things about using a single cell lipo is that you won't (at least I didn't) deadstick when the battery needs a recharge, I simply got some hesitation on full throttle and it wouldn't really go much past half throttle - Once you can recognize it and not make the mistake of thinking it's a tuning problem - it makes your life a lot easier. I don't discharge to that level regularly, so I'd say I fly 3 20 minute flights and still only put back about 300+ miliamps

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
I can tell you that it runs beautifully on a single cell LiPo. I was using one with the stock Zenoah ignition and after installing the CH ignition, It's still running like a top, and absolutely zero problems - and incredible number of flights between charges.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
Karol - Thanks again seriously, I just swapped the ignitions and after a test run of 1 full tank and tune- she runs beautifullly - 8900 at WOT and smooth transition. Best part is after 35 minutes of run time- the ignition only drained 215 miliamps versus the normal 600+ on the stock ignition. The idle screw is removed and I can shut down using trim or the throttle cut feature on my radio. Only problem is I can't seem to get the idle low enough without stopping the motor. It'll idle reliably at 2500 but I'd like to get it down closer to 2000. No matter how I tried with small low end ajustments it just wouldn't allow a slow enough idle. One time it was right on at 2000, but then I started getting burble on transition and had to readjust the low end.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
Hey Karol, since I bought the CH ignition module, you think it'd be worth it to swap it out? Other than being able to use much less miliamps what would be the advantage over the stock ignition? Also, do I reall have to use a template/protractor thingy or can I just adjust for max rpms and then fully tighten down the hall sensor?

Yup that's how I tune my gassers, but I was just concerned as the manual recommends tuning the low FIRST. I'll try a traditional tune and see what happens, thanks Karol I'll let you know tomorrow.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
Thanks Karol I thought that it was backwards, but here's what the manual says, which appears to be the reverse of how I normally tune my gassers! "(A) ADJUSTING THE IDLING ADJUSTMENTS FOLLOWING STARTUP â— L needle to the right (to reduce fuel), and search for the position for the highest number of rotations. From that position, turn the L needle about 1/4 (90°) to the left (to increase fuel) and set the number of rotations for idling with the idle screw or the transmitter. Following startup, set the number of engine rotations for idling at about 2000rpm, rotate the (B) ADJUSTING NUMBER OF ROTATIONS AT FULL THROTTLE â— When the number of rotations stabilizes, turn the H needle to the left and right to locate the position for the highest number of rotations. Achieve full throttle slowly. â— As a rule, consider 100rpm to be the difference between the highest number of rotations and the set number of rotations. From the position of the highest number of rotations, open the H needle 1/8 (to increase fuel) to make the setting. â— acceleration is poor, open the L needle an additional 1/8th (45°) and confirm that acceleration is smooth. In this case, the number of rotations for idling will be low, so use the idle screw or transmitter to adjust it. After making the setting, return to idling. Accelerate rapidly and confirm that there are no problems with acceleration. If â— normally necessary. In keeping, if poor acceleration or insufficient rotations at full throttle or the like result, make adjustments in conformance with the main points of adjustment following startup. However, the number of rotations for idling will change depending on the size of the propeller used, which will make adjustment using the idle screw or transmitter necessary. This engine has had the carburetor set at the standard position at time of factory manufacture. Thus, no calibration is

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
Thanks for the quick reply. I was too lazy to go get the tach, but I'd say 3500+ at idle. I didn't remove the idle screw completely, but I did back it out almost all the way. Also I'm using a Menz 16x6 wood prop and lawnboy at 32:1. The servo linkage is not the issue, as it's fully closed at idle.

RE: G20Ei is the best!!
So I've got a new G20 that I installed in a H9 25% cub, and while breaking it in, I'm getting a super high idle. I've tried tuning starting over and re-tuning and I don't know what the problem is. I've owned quite a few gassers and would like to figure this out as its' finallllly stopped raining. It starts right up, has great top end, but the low end is just way to fast. If I turn out the low needle to get a satisfactory idle, I get hesitation and burble when I throttle up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have my G20 on a H9 Cub (ARF) and I was wondering if it would muck up the balance of the prop shaft if I cut it back like 1/2"? I can't mount my spinner nut without loading on 2 or 3 thick washers and it looks silly. Any ideas?

RE: Sig SU-31 Sukhoi ARF
ORIGINAL: daveopam Looking good. This plane got a bad rap in the beginning. It may not be great at 3D, but it is great at IMAC and sport flying and scale aerobatics. I don't remember, did you use some good servos? i stripped my aile servos doing a full speed roll on high rates. My landings are also a little bouncy. I think it is a combo of the long gear and the high AOA the tall gear gives it. The high AOA makes for some fun take offs though. I can hammer the throttle from a dead stop and the plane will take off in it's own length. Make sure you have plenty of room if you try this. The plane makes a hard left turn for about the first 20' when you do this. Have you tried any inverted flat spins yet? This bird really excels on them. Looking forward to the flight videos. And yes, I am a firm believer in expo. I had a guy make fun of me for using it once on a Funtana 50X. So I dialed the expo out on the high rate position of the switches. And let him fly it. I don't think he is in any hurry to fly one without expo again.[:D] david
Thanks! I don't 3d so I don't want the generic helicopter with wings that eeveyrone else has. I love the look of the Sukhoi, and it got more compliments and enthusiastic onlookers than any plane I've built before. I actually experienced that rocket take-off without any tendencies to bank or roll. I swear it's easier to fly than most of my smaller planes, and really settles in nicely on approach.

RE: Sig SU-31 Sukhoi ARF
So I finally maidened her on Saturday and was airborne after about 15ft at half throttle (DL-50cc) with only 3 clicks of right aileron and two of left rudder she was tracking straight and tight. No bad tendencies and a pleasure to fly. Word of advice (put in some expo!!!) Much more manageable! Landings tended to be a bounce then settle simply because of the Sukhoi's landing gear stance. To sum it up, I'm soo glad I decided to keep and build this one!!! Next up - aerial video!
