RE: E-Jet Internaional jet fly
True but two things. 1. It wasn't destroyed after the jump. 2. No effort was made to keep it from touching the ground during the landing, so it wouldn't have to be destroyed. All I am saying is that this skydiving team really made no effort to follow proper procedure.

E-Jet Internaional jet fly
I attended the E-Jet International jet fly in Grove City Ohio this weekend and I have to say this is one nice event. The Torks do a great job of organizing and putting on this event and the facility is second to none. Also the flying and the variety of pilots and aircraft had to be seen to believed! I do have one issue that has been nagging at me and even though this really has nothing to do with the Torks club or the organizers of the event I still witnessed this during the skydiving demo at mid day. The skydiver who flew the American flag in during the playing of our National Anthem didn't have any kind of a ground crew in place to catch our American flag before it landed on the ground. So the American flag which so many have fought and died for was desecrated by letting it land totally on the ground. Shortly afterward a couple of the jumpers came over and lifted our flag off the ground and displayed her during the remainder of our National Anthem. To me this type of disrespect from a professional skydiving team is unacceptable. I know to some this may seem like I am making a mountain from a mole hill. But to others like myself we see this as very disrespectful.

I was driving east on county rd 58 Grafton rd and just east of county rd 151 I see a couple full scale Cessna's and a little further back I see a RC club field. I didn't see any signs and nobody was there. Does anybody know what the name of this RC club is?

RE: IMAC maneuvers
ORIGINAL: bubbagates Or go to the IMAC website and view the training information on the basic sequence http://www.mini-iac.com/TrainingLibrary/tabid/121/Default.aspx You may need to create yourself an account to view it, but it's free and well wroth it as you will get access to the forums over there and get all you ever wanted to know about IMAC
Bill not true. You need to be a paid IMAC member to view the training library. Which is a pile of crap as new flyers need this info.

RE: Venus II
I have been flying my Venus II with a YS 110 and love this combo. But because the YS pressurizes the fuel tank the tanks has worn a hole where the tanks comes into contact with the fuel tank mount in the plane. I can't find a replacement part number for this tank from GP so what our my options for a replacement tank that will fit in the same slot in the front tank area of the fuse?

YS FZ110 muffler
Today I was flying my Venus II with my YS FZ110 and the rear portion of the muffler came loose and fell off along with the inner baffle. My question , is there a problem with running this engine without the baffle and rear portion of the muffler? It seems to run OK just a bit louder.

RE: Venus II
Well I am looking for strickly a pattern plane. I am just hoping that the 115 will give enough performance to give realistic pattern performance . I have a somanzini yak and even though it makes for a good 3d machine I am not happy with the performance of this bird for the type of presision flying I am looking for.

RE: Venus II
Tom, sounds about right. But I don't think keeping it under 8 pounds is a realistic possibility. But even though I would hope this aircaft engine combo would provide decent sport/pattern performance.

There is a problem uisng the Robart retract on this P-51. The coil in the struts won't line up with the slot cut into the wing for the coil.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
I still say there is no reason anyone should have to upgrade the retracts on this ARF. My point is that if Wolrd Models can supply a decent set of retracts then why can't Top Flite? You guys are just to willing to let the manufacter off the hook for providing crap. And guess what, they will keep on providing crap as long as you let them. Also when I go flying I don't just make one or two flights, I make five or six flights, and these ARFs are not build for that kind of usage. So this another reason you guys are just too willing to accept substandard componets. You just don't fly that much so heance your expectations are lower.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
All i can say is I am very dissapointed with the quality of the retracts on this aircraft. On at least 50 % of the flights I found that the plastic housing for the retracts had either broken out right or cracked. Now great planes sent me a couple so called upgrade retracts but the same problem exsisted. It is too bad that a nice ARF P-51 such as this would be supplied with such sub standard gear. I know that some of you expect this and upgraded to a better retract system, but in my opinion this shouldn't and doesn't have to be. I owned a world models 60 sized P-51 ARF and made 300 flights on it until the firewall gave way due to just wearing out. But in the 300 flights I made with her and landing on the same grass field as I have flown my TF P-51 on I never not once had a problem with there (WM) cheap plastic retract system. So if WM can do it why couldn't TF provide a equal quality retract system ? So anyway to relieve myself of this fustration we had a nice little bonfire last evening at the field. And I can report that the Top Flite P-51D ARF makes for a great bonfire starter.[:D][:D] I have to say I never enjoyed getting rid of a problem as much as I did this POS. TF you will never get one more dollar from me again.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
Well I made the first flights of my P-51 today and I am pretty pleased. The only real problem I have had is one of the plastic retract housings cracked and broke. All my landings where greased two wheel landings on a fairly smooth grass field. The same field I made over 300 landings with my WM P-51 and I didn't have one not one gear problem. Also I had an interesting thing happening today. My TF P-51 doesn't seem to hold trim on the roll axis. On my first flight I thought I needed to give her a click or two of left aileron trim. but then she started to roll slightly left without giving any trim changes. What I am trying to say is that this bird doesn't hold a neutral aileron setting, it is constantly drifting both right and left slightly on the roll axis. Any ideas ? I am using Hitech Digital programable servos for the ailerons.

If tower is out of stock then I bet your dealer can't get them either as one of his main sources for robart parts is Great Planes distributors and Great Planes and Tower a one in the same. I would recommend going online and find a dealer that just may have them is stock.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
Thanks for the reply Bob. Yeah i kinda figured the 5-5/8 CG placement would be too far aft as when we tried to balance at that point we needed too much tail weight. And as you stated we don't want a tail heavy warbird!!! I have 300 flights on my old WM P-51D 60 sized and I loved the way that bird flew. Unlike the Hanger 9 warbirds which you can get away with murder with. You had to FLY the WM 51 and this is the way i am hoping the TF 51 will fly.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications
I have a question that I haven't seen addressed in this thread. I have a saito 115 and I know the crankshaft is 8X1.25. Will the included brass bushing for the spinner backplate fit the 8mm shaft? The instructions say the bushing has a 7.9mm ID. If it won't fit what are you guys using for a backplate adapter for the saito 100 115 ? Thanks

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' Mustang ARF: about the same price as the H-9, but far better?
Saito 150 is over kill. A Saito 100 with a APC 14X8 is the perfect engine prop combo for this size P-51. In fact the Saito 100 will fly well over scale speeds ( if that is what you want) and give overall the great performance.

MinnFlyer, Exactly, higher wing loading in a warbird is not always a bad thing! And I received my TF P-51 arf today.

RE: TF P-51D ARF 60 SIZE CRAP
Bob, You are correct when you say light wing loading keeps warbirds alive with the sport flyers. But I still say that light wing loading detracts from scale like flight ( more stable in turbulance, carving on track wide turns and the occasional stall, snap due to an accelerated stall on hard banking turns) It is also true that a higher wing loading results in a higher stall speed (landings), but as i said before this can be managed and a heavier warbird can still be landed at scale like speeds with proper technique. But for those of you who do not posess and understanding of these techniques then yes a lower wing loading is best.

RE: TF P-51D ARF 60 SIZE CRAP
Corsair Jock,You make my piont for me.If you are into banking and yanking then yes the lighter wing loading is for you.But in all honesty the full scale warbirds had some negitive tendencies when flown in this manner.I had the World models P-51 ARF and the higher wing loading of this model also showed some of the negitive tendencies of the full scale when flown in a sport manner. On the other hand my experience with the Hanger 9 warbirds (P-51, Corsair and P-47) have all shown some very forgiving performance qualities. But I believe these forgiving qualities subtract from the look and feel of flying a warbird in a scale manner.10+ g turns are not scale like even in a warbird. And as far as landing speeds, you are correct that the higher wing loading results in higher landing speeds and even more so when flown in a sport manner. But these higher landing speeds can be managed and a reduction in landing speed to more scale like speeds can be done with proper technique.
