BTE Venture 60 landing gear/ wheel pants, where can I buy them?
BTE doesn't carry them any more. Is there a style that will fit and others have used before?

go to the kit building section here on RCU. Alot of good kits still being offered. search BTE or Bruce Tharpe, I am a big fan of his kits.

RE: JR XP8103...is it worth converting to 2.4
JR and Spektrum is now the least recommended 2.4g solution. it is a DHSS system meaning it cant jump from its 2 chosen channels under interference. There have been problems while using spektrum at very large fly ins. I know lots of poeple will say it works perfect for them, and all Im saying there is better tech out there. There must be a reason that EVERY other 2.4g solution is now FHSS or constant hopping. JR has a slow reboot time to reconnect to Rx in case of volt drop. I have heard as high as 3-5 secs Futaba module system is good but its Rx are sensitive to heat and their prices are kinda high. I recommend XPS and Airtronics 2.4g <(soon to have modules avail for JR and Futaba). Hitec and Multiplex also are dropping their 2.4g systems soon. JR and spektrum are being left behind as DHSS is a untenable position in this changing market. As more and more 2.4g systems crowd the band, it raises the noise floor for everyone. Guess who is more vulnerable or will get hit 1st?? DHSS cant hop while FHSS like Airtronics/XPS/Futaba will penetrate through the interference. I have seen a few threads like this about JR: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1049159 So keep the 8103 as it is a great radio, and get a good FHSS 2.4g module system. I have used XPS for years now. http://www.xtremepowersystems.net/proddetail.php?prod=XPS-CPJ1-8

RE: Can' decide on TX snd Plane
Im not sure how the JR/spektrum/Futaba radios are obsolete Howard. They haven't been out that long. The SD10/Aurora 9 will have blazing digital servo resolution response to each stick movement but the others do also as it is the new "hyped" feature for the lastest radio offerings. I say any quality radio will have benefits/drawbacks. Spektrum/JR Im not impressed with their DHSS (non hop) 2.4g link I like the modular flexibility in the Hitec Aurora/Futaba 10C. But I dont like the high price of Futaba's FHSS Rx. ATX SD10 will be awesome depending on costs. My order of Pref would be: ATX SD 10 Hitec Aurora 9 Futaba 10C

RE: radio 2.4GHZ module/rx compatibality
yes my Futaba 9C for my heli has a 72mhz module. My 8UHP has the same exact module. I use my XPS 2.4g module from my 9C and it fits and works in my old 3PB magnum Tx and also in my new 3PK. Thats the reason I bought the 3pk instead of the cheaper non module 3PM. BUT!! If you have a FASST module in your aircraft radio it wont talk to a 3 chan surface FASST Rx. what all do you have? it wont hurt anything to try it as all the 2.4g modules need a PPM signal to operate. If your aircraft module doesnt get the signal it looks for installed in the pistol, it wont transmit. Thats the beauty of XPS gear, it just works and is very flexible. I dont need 100$ 3chan surface FASST Rxs and it flies my helisand cars with FHSS (hopping full spectrum) on 2.4g. All on a small investment in a single module.

RE: Whats the word on 1/8 racing with lipo batts/ BL motors??
It will still be awhile yet till I get the funds up. Im thinkin the A123 batts (at 3.6v per cell, 75 grams/2300mah each) , might not cut it for run time as ya'll say. what size 4s mah batt would I need to race? Foamy whats does your car weigh before lipos? that mamba sure has alot of driver specific features compared to my heli ESC... I think I'll snag a lipo pack and try my heli ESC/motor till I get a monster max ESC. I'll post pics here and turn this into a build thread once I'm ready.

RE: telementry
I have XPS 2.4g module in my 3PK that has (if I add the eagletree sensors) telemetry. Its not real time (yet!) like the spektrum. I think you bring your laptop with telem USB module and you veiw its recordings (alot more features then spektrum offers) after your race. Soon they will have real time telemetry.

Hmm I wish I didnt post this Now my mind is really twisted[:D] Should I buy a 150$ novarossi .21 eng or just use these components I already have? hacker BL motor C50-13L (2.400 inch long, 1.700 inch can diameter) 1874kv handles up to 6s lipo 5s A123 batts with a 6s capable ESC from a heli. I'd prb be concerned with ESC heat but this would be a HV setup, and I'd get a fan im thinkin my old heli electric gear might still be useful in 1/8 cars..Decisions

The newbie post
Maybe some are just like me and green to all this racing stuff. I thought a post with all the info in one place would be a good idea. Hello, I just got a older GS Storm for a song that I will start racing with as soon as I get a few things for it. I will tweak and upgrade this car (within reason) and then get a different one once I become a better driver. I'll save all the high dollar upgrades for my next ride, but I am itching to start with what I got. Here is the race items I have so far... Old GS storm/w pull start .21 3PK 75mhz synth Tx/Rx 3PB Magnum 75mhz PCM Tx/Rx glo heater Airplane/heli starter with hex start wand Airplane feild box with power panel. elec fuel pump 1s-12s lipo/nicd charger heli 15% nitro fuel thats it I beleive.. I want to scrap the pull start engine and get a better engine. Is everyone's starters 6mm hex? What engine for about 150$? What are good non digi servos? maybe all the new guys can get all the info in one spot. I know I'll be asking a lot of questions. thanks! Garland

Send you JR in for service. I know JR airplane guys are well taken care of by horizon service. a 3PK will allow you to use your AM Rx, and with a module switch go to 2.4g with either XPS or FASST

Whats the word on 1/8 racing with lipo batts/ BL motors??
Hello Im new here and I have a GS Storm buggy. I want to race for the 1st time ever and learn the ropes with a nitro. Meanwhile I would like to learn all I can about BL conversions, as I have done a lot of that on large RC helis. I am also a machinist so my interest is peaked. How many lipo cells for a buggy? size and KV of the motor? does ESC need a governor, or soft spool up? Run time per charge? I hear its not race legal to run lipos, why? Im wondering what ya'll think for track use. Thanks

Foamy thanks for the PM! I'll hit ya back in a sec.. Stagga I agree on starting cheap. Most of my spare $$ will alway go to my helis/aircraft, but I'm finding the T-maxx a relaxing and fun diversion. I will beat up on this old GS storm. Learn the ropes and see how far this setup takes me.

RE: Really a differnce?
It sounds like ya'll are talking about me being a total 1/8 buggy newbie. Hello 1st time here and want to say hi. For years all my interest has been in large RC helis and planes. I always heard ya broke expensive parts weekly at the track, and these cars were too powerful on the street so why bother on surface RC? So I always bought heli gear instead. Recently my Father-law picked up a 1/8 GS (storm?) buggy/w Futaba 3PB magnum PCM radio <-(either of these any good??) at the local flea market when someone didnt pay their storage bill . We paid 35$. It must have been raced because it came with 300$ + in NIP extra parts with dealer price tags . It looks complete and the new LHS guys says it might be worth getting running, bring it to the track. A local racer said he has a GS (Storm?) roller (with servos no eng) in a trade that he'd sell for 50$....So her I am without even trying, up to my eyes in GS parts for less then 100$. The flea has been very good to me. A year ago we found a Tmaxx 2.5 complete with a crap eng for 20$. I put a new OS 18 motor in..... Guys at the LHS sold me a Futaba 3PK to work with my 2.4g XPS module from my helis... We have been runnin the piss out of this poor truck!! The wife just LOVES this old Tmaxx! (she isnt as scared to crash as she is with the aircraft). I showed her a few youtube vids of 1/8 racing and we are pumped! Anyone else race with their wives?? We are ready to join a track, it looks like so much fun! We dont care if we win with our flea market specials. I think our gear will be good to us being what it is to get us rolling. Is 1/8 too much speed for rank newbies?? LHS says we need a 300$ OS 21 motor to race (this GS motor might be crapped out). I about choked! better prices out there?? Thanks ya'll seem like a great crew of folks.

Is it worth sending in 75mhz module and FPR-113ip Rx in for service?
They are out of a old school 3PB magnum PCM Futaba pistol. The syth module/RX out of a 3PK works excellent in this 3PB, but I'd like to use the PCM function of the Magnum radio with this 113ip Rx. Does Futaba still offer service on their legacy radio equip? If so... Can I send in just the module and Rx or must the 3PB go with them? Thanks

RE: BRUCE THARPE KITS-HOW MANY HAVE YOU BUILT???????????
I just bought Venture 60 plans and the canopy from Bruce. I asked for what he had left of V60 parts but this was all he has avail right now. I like the V60 looks better then the 4star series so I'll have to scratch my own V60 from plans. I think it'll be worth it as my 1st scratch build. Id like the Flying king and Delta also, maybe later.

RE: uniflow the tank on a LT-40?
Rossi 65 in my Vario Skyfox: http://www.rchelispot.com/album_pic.php?pic_id=4168&sid=987c5fb42c0338aaf0ac89dc2b6b4fe8 Webra 52 AAr in my Bergen Intrepid: http://www.rchelispot.com/album_pic.php?pic_id=4163&sid=987c5fb42c0338aaf0ac89dc2b6b4fe8 Thanks for the info I'll do a 2 line tank for simplicity. For heli use I use low nitro (0%-5%) and 23% oil content or Jet-A fuel on these 2 engines due to the lowish cooling efficiency of heli fans. Will this fuel cause probs in my LT40? Actually it is this same Webra 52 AAR that is pictured is going in my plane, Paul Swany of www.swanyshouse.com is getting me a webra prop driver for it. Paul is a class act as a webra dealer, Im very impressed with his service so far.

RE: Pay It Forward Build Thread!! Sig LT-40 build
My apologies to madmoe who asked about my word file 4 weeks ago, and I just sent him a copy. Please send me a email at khghia(at)msn.com with LT-40 in the subject line. I havent kept up with RCU as often as I would like to. My LT-40 is almost done with ailerons till I lost my workspace in the living room for holiday visits/family. I was all gun ho on the build till I had to dremel out the trailing wedge for the center ail conrods. LOTS of wood dust from just a lil bit of balsa...I was coughing, wheezing, then on to a full blown chest cold.... It lasted for at least 3-4 weeks. It seemed as though my lung capacity were cut in .5 and I couldnt heal the problem. Weird cause I have never smoked or other resp problems. I have since read up on fine wood dust and its the absolute worst for your resp system! Im not talking major sanding here folks, just the standard acts of cutting and sawing balsa. This is my 1st airplane, after many, many helis. Please use a mask/respirator when working on these wood airplanes! I know for me its a a absolute must!
