RE: 7.2v Ni-cd switch to Ni-mh?
ORIGINAL: MAC-9- Thanks for those of you who take pity on us newbies. My question is, The <a title=''Link this word and every other one like it in our forum to YOUR Website!'' rel=''nofollow'' target=''_blank'' style=''border-bottom: black 1px dashed; background-color: transparent; color: black; text-decoration: none'' href=''http://www.rcuniverse.com/buynow/keywordclick.cfm?bid_id=6113''>manual says to use a 7.2v Ni-Cd <a title=''MaxAmps.com for all your LiPo, NiMh and NiCd RC Battery Needs. Click here now.'' rel=''nofollow'' target=''_blank'' style=''border-bottom: black 1px dashed; background-color: transparent; color: black; text-decoration: none'' href=''http://www.rcuniverse.com/buynow/keywordclick.cfm?bid_id=4932''>battery (on the apache 24), can I use an Ni-Mh with 3300 mAh, and is there an mAh that is to powerful that might damage the electronics? Thanks again in advance.
7.2v is 7.2v, doesn't matter if its from a nickel cadmium battery or a nickel - metal hydride battery. all the higher number on the mah does is increase run time. (a 1500mah battery will run twice as long as a 750mah battery. the main difference between ni-cd and ni-mh packs is the lack of cadmium, which is just a bit toxic.

RE: Help with a Graupner Kit
ORIGINAL: mlarsen I have built a few .60 and 90 size helicopters but never considered a boat until I got a deal on a Graupner Boat. Go Figure? Just woundering if anyone knows where I can get some good build info or pass some knowledge on to a newbie to this arena.  If this helps this is kind of what I was thinking of doing if it looks wrong let me know  nitro power K&B 3.5cc, water cooled engine? Clutch/ flywheel Pipes w/ silencer? I have heli engines laying around can I madify them to work also? DS821 servos for throttle and steering (left overs from a heli) Do I make a waterproof box or buy one? Prop? Rutter? Trim Tabs? Can I use my Futaba 7C 2.4 radio or do I need to buy a 3 channel? Thinking about this know, any information will help.
your servos are according to google, high torque. im not an IC runner but i cant see a problem there your radio, 2.4ghz, its surface legal, just remember to tell it "not heli" when you program the model parameters. waterproof box... if your reciever case (the clear plastic one that the rx comes in from the supplier with the instructions in it) should work, just drill a couple of holes in it for the plug extention leads to go through

RE: need electric boat that has at least 500 ft range
ignore these 27mhz twin motor steer types that stop the inboard engine to turn, something like the Hobby Engine Southampton WILL go 500ft or more, though at that range it will be quite small i sail here on the small lake, and a Graupner neptun measuring 760mm x 150mm with an air draft of around 200mm(to mast top) soon disapears requiring a keen eye to see [link=http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=westport+lake&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=11.071054,39.331055&ie=UTF8&hq=westport+lake&hnear=&t=k&ll=53.047134,-2.213488&spn=0.002748,0.009602&z=17]westport lake[/link], the jetty is just by the north west corner of the lake, you can make out two benches and a trash can just behind the jetty. from the jetty, its only 300ft from to the south west corner of the lake "the beach"

RE: speed controler
if you have two esc's you can control each motor independently by either a 4ch radio or if you have a 2ch radio, use a V-tail mixer as used by the aircraft guys.

RE: robbe happy hunter radio
6 channels will do you, as lights can be done on switch channels, and with a servo working a metal sweep arm or toggle switches, you could have 3 sets of lights, or two sets of lights and a winch working. My Nord Icelandia uses 2x chan for motors, 1 for rudder, and the remaining 3 for features. Lights dont have to be RC operated.

Length: 1135 mm Beam: 140 mm Scale 1 : 200 one idea crossed my head. 12mm x 12mm x 60mm blocks made into containers, and a full deck load pictured here is what the ship would have looked like If I had built it how Graupner wanted it built, however I wanted a bulker type ship
yep. as for modifications, as she is a cargo ship, she will have a crane (not operational due to scale) on her deck (again). she used to have one before BUT it was slightly off-cock due to a miss sighting when i was building it, so I removed it

yup, however it has made the coffee taste kinda odd! she shal be in the water on sunday, and sometime next week she will have her decals on order. The bird logo that adorns the bow of Nord Icelandia will also be going on the ship as well. oh I will enjoy it as well. Celestia's old South Sands livery has been on her since 2006 heres the old livery against the new livery.

RE: Good GPS unit to buy ??
have a word with the flyers, they have various GPS loggers that calculate distance, air time and thus work out your boats speed, enclosed within a hull you may get some bizzare results due to them being enclosed within the shell of the boat. I fancy getting a logger to put on the boat to read the amps of the boats.

RE: Nord Icelandia, from OSV to Research ship
Nord Icelanida FINALLY got to sail at night at a modelboaters get together at Wicksteed park, she also got a new battery as well, not that the old one was faulty, BUT it was too heavy, the plan is now to put some lead sheeting in the base of the hull to put half of the difference in weight between the old battery and the new battery back in the hull, BUT this time it will be lower down, rather than in the form of a big lump of a gel cell

RE: Recovering boats with R/C boats
what I have done in the past, is using a twin screw boat, cruise out to the broken down vessel, then reverse up to it gently, once contact is made, give it full power astern and push the boat in. a flat stern boat like that of the wyreforce, Al Khubar, Smit nedland or Aziz tug is best. if you have a pusher tug, just drive past the broken down boat, turn around and come at the broken down boat, and drive upto it, once you have made contact, keep on driving and push it ashore. as for "burning motors out", pushing a striken boat is no different that having a pusher tug with 3 or 4 barges in tow, as long as the props can spin freely you will not do any damage to the motors. its prolonged stalling of motors that does the damage. I have used my RTR Southampton: sail out to, then reverse to farside of casualty boat, and keep on reversing until boat is ashore, using differential thrust to steer it in, Sydney Star: sail out to casualty boat and pull along side, engage the bow and stern thrusters, then crab ashore, pushing the striken boat. (works ok with small RTR toys, not so well on bigger boats due to power availability. even my najade speedboat was used once, to collect a yacht, (my yacht) that was done by moving out to it, then turning around then going between the forestay wire and the foresail, once snagged, the najade was brought to the bank, riding the yacht! a pvc X frame with pool noodles is a good bet, simple to make and works with (PRACTICALLY) any boat as long as the bow isn't too sporty, if it is, the frame can be adapted to be tied to the propulsive rescue boat. Even something as simple as a box-hull with two propellers, utilizing tank steering will work
