RE: Dymond Servos
I have the D 5000's in two planes a Giant Ugly Stick and an Ultra Hots, both 80 plus inch Gassers. I have about 50 flights on the Stick with no problems, plenty of power. The Hots gave me some problems and required that the old wires be replaced from this 1980's plane that had very out of date Futaba servos and wire so has yet to be flown. The nice thing about the D 5000 servos is that they are the same size as standard servos. I recently lost a Chipmunk due a Futaba 3004 loosing a nylon gear tooth (several) on the rudder in flight, the servo would not center...............exactly why this happened I don't know? I have had no problems with the Dymonds and the good folks there are great to deal with. I will continue to be a customer.

RE: synchronizing engines
JL1 expresses exactly what I would have advised. I have seen more that one plane distroyed by someone trying to make the slow engine keep up with the faster one (lean run). Just set them individually to run as you would any individual engine and go fly after establishing they are loose enough to be reliable. Very recently I helped a friend with his new Saito 40. It had almost no compression out of the box and was very tight during the first several runs surging and changing RPM's, the compression did develope after running. Both valves were very loose and required resetting..........this is not what I expected from Saito. We were running Byrons 15% 4 stroke fuel. After three tanks the engine was good to fly and really break-in. I suspect you need more running to have reliable engines for a multi engine, I know I would run them until there is no question they would not quit.

RE: FIRST LANIER R/C AIRCRAFT
Could you post a photograph, it would help a bunch? Some of the Lanier kits were not good in that they used a lot of ABS plastic that would crack around screws, etc. Some of the others were really nice kits, depends what you have.

RE: Great Planes Giant Ugly Stick
I have Dymond 5000's in mine except the throttle which is a Futaba 3002. The Dymonds are rated at 125 oz., metal gears and standard size, all for $15.00 each. My plane has a 40 cc gas engine and these servos have worked well thus far. Be sure to upgrade the hinges as mentioned thru the various postings. Good luck, nice plane.

RE: Great Planes Giant Ugly Stick
Super, Wow what a wreck! Sorry about that. I now have 24 flights on mine and am really enjoying it a bunch. I have a CRRC 40 on it using the beam mounts and still have the standoffs behind a plywood mount forward of the firewall. It still took several oz. to balance. I have a Turnigy 50HP to add soon, I doubt there will be any weight penalty, or at least very minor balance issues done properly. I replaced all hinges with Dubro nylon. The plane flies well but is a little short of unlimited vertical. Sweet plane!

RE: Hobbico twinstar
You are doing well for flight time. I have OS 32f's that are about 5 plus mins. at full throttle and you better be landing, period. I use it for my tune-up plane before flying my good ones.....It is fun and everyone enjoys hearing those little sync'ed engines screaming by. Fun little plane.

RE: 1960's receivers
How many have been changed to be "legal"? Anyway why spend as much for old outdated equipment as you might pay for new cutting edges receivers? Guess I go with logic[:@]

RE: 1960's receivers
Are these the old AM rx's which most likely are not legal? Most of radio gear of that age is not legal and not worth anything. You would be much better off spending on new current gear, a much better value. I was given a bunch of that type of equipment which I attempted to gave away and no one wanted it.

Had one years ago (it's still around) it took a lot of running to get good, but then it was really good! Don't give up when it's a bear to tune as it will find it's niche.

RE: Aileron Problem Help!
I had the exact same type of problem, one servo moving up and down on it's own while the engine was running. The engine, a CRRC 40 cc quit and seemed to loose compression. It had a loose spark plug due to my having just installed a new RcExel ignition and timing the engine, removing the plug to find TDC. Guess I overlooked tightning the plug. I will eliminate the "Y" harness and check centering on the Servos to be sure. I feel that if the spark contact was poor enough to kill the engine it must have been putting out a lot of interference. Perhaps when the rain stops today I will give it another run? I am using a Hitec 2.4 set up with Dymond 5000 servos which have worked well for me in the past.

If it's a Walbro take it to you local Napa Auto Parts Store for a kit, they must have the proper numbers. They or most small engine repair shops will have access to what you need along these lines

I hope this is the right place to ask this question? I was given a "MUD DUCK"by a friend who built it years ago. Can someone tell me what to use for power, I have a number of two and four stroke engines but would prefer one of my 70 or 91 4 strokes, any suggestions? This is a big boxy plane but light.

I have the exact set-up and there is no problem seeing and hearing the spark. Mine is a breeze to start and runs well. I set mine @ 28 degrees. How are your batterys, might require a charge?

RE: I tried to warn him
Reminds me of last year and the two young guys I ran across standing by their Nextstar remains @ the east end of the main runway at the local airport. Same situation, couldn't wait for an instructor, had to do it. It never dawned on them that they might be a problem for Full Scale aircraft! Offered to help them do it right but never saw them again....

RE: Off subject about Echo gas chain saw engine
I also have a small echo that I use for pruning, etc. never missed a lick. Extra oil will only foul the plug, bad idea, if it had a lube problem the extra oil will not help at this stage. Because your problem occurs when the saw becomes heated from use when hot I suspect you have a fuel pressure problem caused by expanding fuel in an improperly vented tank. Check out the fuel lines and gas cap to see if anything is plugged or crimped, if not, it is possible that your carb is defunct and needs a re-build as it is not regulating fuel flow under pressure? This will result in flooding. Good luck!

RE: Need Some Advice
Let it sit wet for about a week, have handled two chainsaws that had set for years. Put in fresh gas and they would only pop when choked and refused to run. gave them about a week and they were as good as new. Easy starts and full transitions!

RE: Today's gas no problem... NO way...
I suspect your old Mac chainsaw had the old fuel line. I ran into the same thing on several Husky chainsaws. The line simply becomes jelly with the new fuel. I have found the same with some of the older Stihl saws and total replacement of the line is required. Just as well do the carb at the same time. In many cases it requires a dealer part as the lines are specially formed and it may cost more than the saw/weedie, etc. is worth. The new fuel does cause problems with my Honda 450 ATV as it causes deposits around the fuel needle in the carb which must be screwed down and back into adjustment as the machine will backfire on compression when left with the deposits. My Honda dealer turned me on to this. I have been adding a little Sea Foam to the gas and so far it seems to work.

RE: bad gas
I clearly mark my gas cans with a felt marker, I use the same mix on my model engines as I do on my saws and weed eater 50 to 1. Husquvarna mix., never a problem! My airplane gas is in it's own very clean container. Bet you got some water?

RE: Getting rid of the dreaded 'black wire' syndrome
Black-wire can happen with conventional Auto acid based Batteries. Recently my Bobcat loader would not start and the controls and light panels were all over the place. I thought the computer may be the cause and had to have the field mechanic come by twice. It turned out to be the neg. cable which was totally black under the covering, very brittle and stiff. Apparently it would not properly allow electrical flow and the systems would not work because the computer. I could have bought a really nice RC plane for what repairs cost me.
