Thanks Zach! I will check it out
ORIGINAL: zacharyR can't speak for Dave but i would chose EPP foam if i had a choice ... personally I have the twisted hobby's slick with there LED kit and it works great it's two Leds on the SFG's one blue one white EPP foam is a lot more forgiving I would say 48'' EPP extra with Aura light kit for outdoor night flying. RE: What is a Good Nighttime LED 3D flyer - Foamy or Balsa Extra 300 3D ?
ORIGINAL: adamle  Twistedhobbys.com has some very fun foamies with an optional light kit.  I don't have a light kit but I do have a crack Pitts and it is a blast.
They don't list an airfoil, but it looks like it on their web site? Do they have 44" airfoiled wing foamies? Also, i have tried the light sticks, i have the Aurora Genesis kit(and another night flyer has both also), but out of my 5 night foamies the past years, the colored LEDs are my hands down favorite!! I can ring out the foamy with proper color scheme and not miss a beat, but with light sticks, man, when you are further out, heck, you have to be flawless to keep track, much harder to see and track with white light sticks, so they are ok and quick for sure, but man i love the colors, just my personal preference, but again, i have and fly both!! hands down, the night sticks are super fast to mount and go fly, the LED strips take many many nights and hours to get that all lined up and soldered and harnessed, wow... but it is worth it... What is a Good Nighttime LED 3D flyer - Foamy or Balsa Extra 300 3D ?
I posted in the ARF forum what Extra 300 3D balsa frame is good and parts after the sale for night time mishaps, but let me ask here, is my drive for an Extra 300 3D balsa electric plane the best choice for a night time LED flying that will have added weight with fully outlined SMD LED strips? Sure it will be heavier, but for winter months, a night time flyer is a must, so i have to bear with the weight as i have had with my past and current foamy LED night flyers... So the scenario is a must of fully outlined 3D electric flyer...., so, now is the Extra 300 3D frame my best choice??? or is a Yak 54 a better choice ??? I want the longer 3D fuse and NOT the shorter fuse of say an Extra 540. Thanks again in advance!!! [:D]

3D Extra 300 Brands? Your suggestions? PRICE/Parts/quality? Night LED flyer Build!
Extra 300 3D manufactures/Models/suppliers???? who do you suggest price to parts/cost/quality/etc? Ok, just sold another plane last eve, so i am in the Market for an Extra 300 3D frame for a new NIGHT LED flyer that i want to build. I want to keep it in the 42" to 48" (maybe 55") range for easy transport to fly with our local night flyer group. I want to go from the 3D LED night foamies my son and i have had and currently have now, and move to an electric night plane in the Extra 300 3D frame.... Sure i will make it heavier with my full outline of LEDs [:D] , but fall and winter is here and i want to be able to ring out a nice blazing 3D balsa model through dark winter months, so i have to add the weight to fly after dark . #1 So what suppliers have decent models to price ratio?? #2 Then do they have parts in stock after the sale? for example, like in another thread i started, the company no longer makes wheel pants... If we loose or crack landing gear, or wheel pants or canopy or even a wing or fuse due to night time trees and bushes we can't see, lol, sometimes i need to order some parts for those pesky night time mishaps [;)]. We have been flying at night for several years now, heck even at JoeNall the past few years, night time flying is awesome, and swapping out a small mishap is nice, because all that wiring and setup for a night plane is time consuming, so getting parts after the sale for a few years is great!!! Also, i do NOT want a top of the line, MOST expensive plane on the market, especially being a weighed down night flyer and mishaps, but an excellent Extra 300 3D balsa frame is a great place to start in a decent price range. Heck, i would grab a NitroModels if they had one, bit i don't see one there....? Now in a perfect world, i would grab a decent balsa model at a lower price that has replacement parts in stock, that way we could build 2 models, one for dad and one for son [:D] Thank you in advance for the Tips and pointers and helps!!! Cheers [;)]

3D Hobby Shop 48 EPP foamy Tech help??
What are your experiences with this plane? I just picked up this 3D Hobby Shop 48" EPP Yak foamy, and the airfoil is NOT very thick... And so far AS i am getting used to it, wow, the sucker wants to fall out of the sky... So far, it seems too bulky for the the THIN airfoil, where i am used to super light flat depron foamy's and LARGE flat foamy's that "float". Also, i love the Hanger 9 Tribute with it's BIG FAT AIRFOIL. I also fly the 3dhs Velox 48", and 3Dfoamy.com SuperXtra, YardBird F22 foamy, fancyfoam.com Sbach, and Tiger, & lastly an 80cc Gasser, and many others... So i am familar with many aircraft, but i need to fly this and see if i can get her to fly like the foamy experience i was looking for...??? Issues * It wants to literally rock and roll out of the sky, sort of like a brick feeling... * feels heavy and brick like... a flying rubber tire * I balanced it per the book at 4.5" CG (although off the sides of the fuse about 4" away from fuse on each side..) * of coarse folks like Joe Smith and guys & gals who fly like him can make it look flawless and make it look like a dream, but us average life long flyers, hmmm, we have to see if i can make if float and look like a feather with some practice.... not sure, seems bad at the moment, but wanted to ask you all about your thoughts on this one... So far on 2 test silo flights, i am running the following: 4S 2200 30C Lipo BP 2820-6 motor that spins a 12x6E = 58oz torque The plane setup weighs approx 40oz So, i am thinking if i spend some cash and upgrade the motor and spin a larger prop, that it still may NOT be worth it if this thin airfoil simply defeats the "floaty" foamy effect i was thinking i would get with this nice looking aircraft???? So, lets take a vote: 1. Should i go aheade and purchase the 3dhs 130 gram Omega motor (4.6oz) that can swing a 14x7 prop on a 3s with a 2200 mah 3S (or a 4S 12x6 2200mah ) ??? or 2. go with a Hacker A30-14L V2 motor (5.1oz) that can swing a 14x7 prop with a 2700 mah 3S (or a 4S 12x6 2700mah) ??? For some reason, the hacker website (Aero-model) insists on a 2700mah battery, where the 3dhs Omega only needs a 2200mah battery. Yes, sure you normally get more time with more mah, but, is the Omega motor more efficient in this case, thus not really needed a 2700mah battery ?????????????????? Also, i can NOT find the Omega & Hacker torque specs like every other motor supplier lists, so i have no idea what the torgue ratio is with either of these two. Everyone else publishes the pull torque, but these two fine motor companies, why would they hide it, while all the others publish so that you can really nail down the motor you need? Thanks again in Advance for the help and experiences you all have had with this aircraft.

Does 3D Prop size matter? 130g Motor at 14x7 for 3D HobbyShop EPP Yak 48"
Hello, If I want to have enough torgue to 3D this LARGE monster foamy that weighs 40oz, does it matter if i buy a motor that gives me 65 to 70oz in a small prop vs a larger prop??? My assumption is the bigger prop gives more air over the wings?? It seems, 3DHS has an Omega 130gram motor ($60) for it, and that sucker swings a much larger prop than any other supplier i can find...???? The Omega 130g swings a 14x7 with a 3S or a 12x6 with a 4s, wow, big prop...? vs. a motor I already have in my stock (BP 2820/6 ), that swings a 10x7 on 4S & 12x6 on a 3S both at close to 60 to 65 grams of thrust. >> If the Omega and the other brands both have the same torgue, does it matter the prop size?? It seems that every other supplier that has a motor around 130grams swings a much smaller prop.... Why is that? NOW, for some reason, 3D Hobby Shop does NOT supply the torgue specs for any of their motors, which really stinks? > Does anyone know the torgue of the Omea 130gram ? Thank you in advance!!!

RE: UMX Extra 300 Upgrades - Micro Carbon fiber to Square it and strengthen
OK, I tested out the upgrades noted above during our indoor Gymnasium event today, and she flew great!!! No real negative differences noticed from the original out of the box, except that she flew more true and square!! From many maneuvers tested. NOTE on the aileron improvement: * During flybys the ailerons were Flat and NOT cupped or ovaled as they were before out of the box!! See out of the box, once the aircraft took flight, the thin ailerons could NOT stay flat due to the air pressures, they were in a constant state of cupping or ovaling, but the micro carbon fiber fixed that right up!!! Aerobatics were in tack and precise!!! Rolls, harrier, rolling harrier, knife edge, hammer head, loops, hanging on the prop and torgue rolls [:D] [;)] The milligrams added did NOT effect the throws of the ailerons!!! [8D] Let us know if you try this or any upgrades or patching techniques that you have tried, be it success or failure !!! Share the wealth [;)]
Oh so sorry JCM, I am not sure if i ever replied, do so busy and onto flying and then another model, gee whiz, sorry.. But yes, I did paint it after it was 100% built. Fully Assembled and maybe even flown, can't remember, then stripped parts where they could be removed, and then painted, and that was like a 2 week process during the eve's... From the hand made stencils, so many color overlaps, tapping off the whole plane for each color and new stencil, wow... but worth it! [:D]

UMX Extra 300 Upgrades - Micro Carbon fiber to Square it and strengthen
Hey Fellow UMX Extra 300 Fans, I thought i would share these upgrades with you all!!! [:D] Have you beat up your UMX a little bit??? Have you noticed that the UMX 300 out of the box, has an issue with the ailerons being curved??? Have you broke the leading edge of your wing from the fuse (it is a weak link due to the factory routing and small connection there) ??????? Well, I have good news for the small issues for this lovely little 3D micro aircraft!!! Here are my UMX Extra 300 Upgrades: I used Micro Carbon fiber to Square it and strengthen the frame, without adding but a few grams!!!! 1. I used 0.4mm carbon fiber rods for the ailerons 2. I ran out of 0.4mm, so i went with my next item in stock, 0.7mm, (btw, 0.7mm is the size the mfg used on the struts & elev control rod). ** See Attached pictures ** NOTE: For clarity, the one picture has sky blue lines pointing at the carbon i installed. >> Glue Used: FoamTac (YardBirdRC.com turned me onto this a few years ago, I used this 95% of the time on Depron & EPP foam planes) Glue Technique: FoamTac is like Rubber Glue on steriods. run a quick film down one side of the carbon fiber, then sort of squeegie off the access glue with your fingers in a pinching motion as you aqueeze and run your pinching fingers down the carbon rod. this makes the rod virtually stripped of glue, except for the tiny "V" you left on the bottom of the carbon, then quickly stick that baby in place, then squuze and firm up and square, then it semi-dries super fast, like a min, for last min movement and squaring, then dries overnight. This stuff is NOT like brittle CA!!!!!!!!!! it is a awesome polymer that dries with super strength, yet PLIABLE !!!!!!!!!, so an EPP foamy can hit the ground and it give, where CA is brittle and it breaks, where this on an EPP is permanant and DOES NOT break, never breaks, permanent and pliable and if you go thin, it is light!!! Oh, and patch jobs are instant and strong, even though it dries 75% in a few mins, still stronger enought to fly more instead of heading home, even though it will finish drying overnight. (oh, btw, perfect for vapors and the covering being retacked instantly and go right back to flying!!!) Even though I went with the bigger 0.7mm for the wing, this may be better beings the wings take the abuse, & it matches the size the mfg used. Now, I do agree, my next frame that i get in, I will go with 0.4mm on everything shown here, and then i will report back the differences (will be a month or two, maybe after JoeNall). As a side note in case you were wondering, the UMX 300 carbon fiber Landing gear from the mfr is 1.0mm. So as you can see, even the mfg used 1.0mm carbon fiber where needed. I will test this out at tomorrows indoor Gymnasium flying event and will let you know a few things: 1. If the weight effected it much or at all 2. did the carbon fiber protruding off the bottom of the wing, caused any airfoil effect, good or bad??? (granted, the carbon is only 0.7mm thick, but not sure if that 0.7mm off the bottom wing surface is enough to cause this micro airplane to react with an airfoil effect. If so, needless to say, that would mean a flat top wing and a bottom airfoil, that might be a strange comination, heck, may have to fly inverted to make it fly like a normal aircraft that has a top airfoil and a flat bottom wing, lol sort of like a Tiger 400 and so on... > Share your ideas and your upgrades and/or patch jobs!!!! Needless to say, once patched too much, then time for a new airframe!!! Enjoy!!! [8D]

Hacker A20-20L - No Prop Adapter?? How too or Parts order where?
Hello, This may seem like a Dumb question, especially since i have mounted 20 electric motors over the past 7 years, but NEVER a Hacker... Here's the deal: I bought a used Hacker A20-20L here on RCU, but it came with NO prop adapter, but worse, the prop shaft does NOT stick out the side of the spinning can, but out the back plate that mounts to the firewall (sure, i will drill a hole into center of the firewall for this shaft sticking out).... But needless to say, this is sticking out the wrong side for a prop saver?? (yes, in the attached pictures, the former owner had a brass gear on the shaft side, i have since removed the brass gear) So a friend states i am missing the special hacker prop adapter that screws onto the can side of the motor to mount the prop.... Ok, so i go online, and i can't find crap on a hacker prop adapter on ANY site, nor any search... Please tell me, where in the world is Carmen Sandiego, or better yet, where in the world is this prop adapter sold...? Thanks a million in advance!!! Cheers [8D]

Carbon Fiber Landing Gear for Monster Night Foamy???
Hello, I can NOT find landing gear in the configuration that I need for a heavier MONSTER foamy... I have a homemade giant 40" foamy (with a homemade airfoil ) that NEEDs landing gear. The foamy is heavy, loaded down with very cool FULL LED outlined lighting for night flying, thus a much heavier battery... It is heavy with: Several packs of LED lighting. Has a 3DHobbyshop.com Omega 72g motor from my 42" AJ slick. BAttery config is one of 2 configs: one 2100 zippy 3s or one 1550 3S Rhino for motor/Rx/Servo's & one Thunder power 1320 3S for LED circuit. This weighs 30 oz+... So this is a heavy foamy. Four hitech HS-55 servo's, hitec optima 7 channel reveiver, 35 amp esc so she is now too heavy to keep belly landing, so I need landing gear... So I figure the best bet is carbon fiber landing gear that is built with flat vertical tabs to bascially sandwhich both some super light & thin balsa plywood and the foamy fusalage? (yes, glue the super thin balsa plywood to foamy fuse underneath, then drill and screw clamp the carbon fibir landing gear too this... Yes, I already have this setup on my SuperExtra from PlaneAddicts.com. This landing gear was a custom setup from me taking the carbon fiber off my older e-flite MiniEdge 540 and having a local buddy and hobby shop guy custom make an aluminum bracket to mount this, very cool setup, but that gear is NOT longer produced, but my new method of clamping is simple and light, but noone is the USA seems to stock this configuration??? ) Sort of like a Hanger9 Tribute aluminum landing gear? Most landing gear is made to go through the body of the fuse horizontally.... http://www.hangar-9.com/ProdInfo/Files/Tribute_ARF_Manual.pdf So to obtain this type of carbon fiber landing gear in this country, who would you all recomment? Here is a sample pair from hobbycity, but this stuff is in china.... PRODUCT ID: OR032-00101 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4502 Thank you

ESC on a Budget? What works & Doesn't? Experience Proven ESC/Motor?
Hello fellow Flyers!!!! (I am not sure if all the same folks subscribe to BOTH RCUniverse forums and the FlyingGiants Forums, so I will post this same thread here that I posted over there???) (I know for me, I ONLY used RCU until I went Giant Scale last fall, so maybe others have NEVER used FlyingGiants either, so here it goes) http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64216#post1455806 Some local folks here NEED some ESC Brand and pricing help!!! I have several NEW flyers that are just getting into the hobby and several Teens, BUT of coarse, it blows their minds on prices. So several men are new to hobby and several 13 to 17 year olds also new to the hobby and are itching to get flying, but buget is BIG problem... So, what economical ESC brands and models are rock solid, or is this a paradox [X(] So the questions are on ESC's Primarily (then Motors second) 1. The low budget folks see the Hobby King Silver Series 40A & 50A at a great price $19 & $22 at local hobby shop (of coarse dirt cheap if you order online and wait). 2. some see the Turnigy PLUSH series. 3. Then how about the Mystery series also (looks like that is from HobbyKing also?) For example, the same ESC , say a 20amp or 40amp, range in price from $12 to $120 bucks. * 40A Silver Series online for $12 or local store $19 * Turnigy Plush $23 > Some folks in our club seem to have perfect success with the Plush. * SuppoModel 40amp $21 (did they fix these yet?) * e-flite $40+ * electrifly $50-$60 * hacker $80 * Castle Ice $85 * Extreme Flight R/C Airboss 45A Elite ESC $100 So, from all your experiences and/or reviews, is there a reliable line of economy ESC's that range $10 to $20 and upto $40 that will NOT GLITCH and loose your plane???????? I know for a fact, 4 years ago, I tried a 2 SuppoModel.com 40amp ESC's on two planes, and those crappy ESC's brought each plane down a few times, then I went to the triple prices 20amp E-flite's and NEVER touched another Suppo ESC since... some motors on these would jerk, crap out, simply shutoff, or freek out and cause even the Rx to go insane and loose the plane, bad stuff. BUT now 4 years later, did they fix these horrible no good ESC's ???? So, what say you all? Thanks to all in advance to good solid feedback to help the young ones and those on a low budget, because, NOT everyone can afford a small to medium sized $400 electric plane, some only have a budget of $100 to $150 or so.... > So the money for each component adds up, so it is easy for some to say, only buy the best $100 ESC, then best $100 motor, the best $50 x 4 servo's and so on... Some only need: $12 ESC, $15 motor, $8 servo, $12 battery and a cheap plane to enjoy the hobby! BUT, they need to know, which JUNK will bring a plane down due to glitches and failing? [:D] Thank you in advance for the input and education from your experiences! [;)]

RE: Installing RCexl ignition on ZDZ engines.
I talked to TroyBuiltModels.com by phone today regarding my problem child ZDZ80RV, older version, 11 years old; and they said, my Original BING carb can be replaced with a new Walbro WJ71. so it sounds like they are still makeing them. Does everyone recommend the Walbro over the BING carb? does anyone know where i can get a BING rebuild kit?
ORIGINAL: plasma 327 I Live in a neighborhood of about 20 or so homes.. I have a track out back behind my house which is why all the kids come around.. Some of them have their own rc's and some don't.. I have 3 that i let the less fortunate share. I help buy them fuel, part's, etc... Our locall track is about 5 miles away. I always take one a week to track for racing with me on Sunday which is where i was most of the day.. I took Paul with me today.. On the ride he ask me '' Herd you punched Steve's dad for losing his rc... I said yes i did and tried my best to explain why i did so... Long story short, after my explaining he looks at me and says ''Your cool Chip Not everybody would would do that for somebody thay hardly know'' Then I realized if a 13 year old could understand what half of our country is missing out on there might be hope left... air mail rcu, You sound like a good person so if i may suggest, you too do what you are proposing and help if at all possible in your neighborhood.. RE: Are People Crap Every where????
ORIGINAL: SPLIT S I skimmed through this pretty quick so let me know if I got anything wrong here. A guy gives his RC something to kid who he thinks could make good use of it. His father loses it gambling while drunk. Said father asks the guy who gave it to his son if he has any more RC stuff he can part with. Correct so far? OP punches the guy out for being a lousy dad. And some of you find fault with the OP? The drunk dad's behaviour with relation to the RC gambling loss is probably just the tip of the iceberg. These are the people you read about a few years down the line that may have commted horrid acts that everyone who knew them says ''oh, not him''. Felony assault. What pink panties some of us wear. And then to bring religion into it? The guy deserved to be clocked. You can debate until the end of time if it was moral or whatever, but the guy had what was coming to him. Would there may have been consequences for the OP, sure. We now live in a world where if you spill hot coffeee on your lap you can sue someone. Like we didn't know it was hot. We can sue the tobacco companies for getting cancer when we know that is the risk. Funny world it has become, hasn't it? And then up comes ''do unto others''. Some of the slime that crawls the Earth, whether we like it or not, know no other justice. That's why we have, along with most of the rest of the world, a military. Because some just don't get it, and need it expained to them in very direct means. You can fill in your own examples of people through the years who ''have deserved what was coming to them.'' I agree, violence shouldn't be the answer. But sometimes, on occcasion, it is the only form of diplomacy that some understand. And that in itself is sad, but sometimes all the depraved understand.
Very good summary...
ORIGINAL: cl0ckwork Hmm.. Wow.. Really makes me sad to see how many people actually support the idea of using violence to solve problems or show a dissaproval of a situation. I am all for self defense... But... Wow...
no no no, all these people are NOT supporting violence... read above.. sure, best policy is to avoid violence at all cost. our country has laws and justice and then beyond that is vengence towards other country's that violate our country. sure, best policy is let law handle it and hope for the best and mercy from the court. Sure, keep it legal, but the question is, reality check: how would everyone else who is condeming have handled it...

RE: Are People Crap Every where????
ORIGINAL: kyliesgrampa What interesting reading this post is, the jerk that gambled his kids toy finally got dealt a result for his actions. Something that apparently is not happening in the rest of his life. I think as people think less about the results of their actions they make not so good decisions. In the not too distant past the police while releasing you would be giving the gambling father what for about his actions. But unfortunatly our country has tried to make rules across the board for all situations equally and no longer does common sense apply to enforcing those rules. I say one punch, one insult, its was a reaction. Its not like you continued the ass whooping and stomped him. At least the kid has a mom with some common sesne and might have a future in spite of a less than desireable role model of a father. I say keep up being a positive influence and even generous if your able, because those that you help WILL NEVER FORGET your kindness. His dad has to get help elswhere, just my 2 cents worth.
yea, very well said, great job kyliesgrampa!! you all get what he said???
