RE: HengLong / Clark TK22 - Panzer IV !
Glen I'll bring this to the June meet, for sure. I wish the Clark came with music ;)
Excellent, is it all IR capable and able to smoke Capt. Action's Pantiger?

RE: Mato Mart WARNING!!!!
ORIGINAL: YHR That is really unfortunate. I have always had good luck with Mato, but you are not the first to have an issue over the years. Typically when you can produce a picture of the damage, they have always been good about doing something to rectify the situation. Bottom line is every big warehouse retailer has had issue over the years. Mato was the best of the bunch, but even they have had the odd case like yours over the years
I agree. I have bought 8 of them and they all worked. My one Panther had a lot of broken internal parts which I repaired. I buy them as a basis for conversions with new electronics, upgraded drives and total re-finish, though. At the price point, relative compexity and sales volume, there are bound to be some problems out there.

HL Stug Gun Assembly Removal????
..............and re-installing it. Does anyone have a recommended method the do this? I have done one about a year and a half ago, spent many hours trial and error attempting every option, then two of us spent some more time examining it. It remained an agravating puzzle.. Eventally, things were "forced" into place with no adverse results but I don't like that and there must be a better way. Perhaps some things in the assembly are glued in place at the factory, making for easy of assembly but difficult to work on, latter?

RE: This is my current project.
Nice looking Stug
ORIGINAL: Pah co chu puk I am installing the IR LED in the gun tube right behind the flash LED sort of like the rounds in a tube feed .22 magazine. I have not yet ordered the electronics, still saving up the money, but I have started prepping the space.
I am very intersted in how this is done and how well it works since I am looking at an IR conversion on an HL Jagdpanther.

I did have one issue with Mato, a 3:1 Gearbox had an output shaft that was out of alignment, I contacted them and had a new one within a week.

RE: new to tank...
Given your location, you might want to make the trip down to the Niagara Region on Sat., Aug 25th to the monthly Can Am R/C Tank Club Meet. Several members make the trip here from Toronto. The club welcomes visitors, the focus is on having a good time and exhanging information on all aspects of the hobby. It doesn't matter if you have a tank, don't have an IR battle tank or what brand/type of model you have etc. We would be happy to see you. Here is a link to the club; http://can-amrctankclub.blogspot.ca/ To reinforce what the others have said, the HL Panther G is one of the better ones, Mato has them in stock. http://www.matomart.com/product.php?c=1000001 My first r/c was an HL Panther, it was a great start; I have two now but they have been refinished and set up for IR.

RE: Hen long, asiatam and taigen
ORIGINAL: YHR in my eyes this Tiagen stuff is just painted HL with a belly full of electonics that aren't compatible with anything, So instead of a $150 tank to start with, I will now have to spend $350.
Yes, the "custom" paint, cases and electronics are of no use or value to me since I wind up putting in things like 3:1's and new electronics, anyway. I would just be paying for things I don't need. I realize this is the hobbist's viewpoint, likely it repersents the minority of their target buyer's requirements.

RE: FIRST TANK...RC OR STATIC?
I had 1/72 scale staitic as a kid, but that was the early 1960's. Too long ago to remember the first one My first r\c was bought in July 2010, an airsoft HL Panther G. I repainted it in the fall of 2012. I just converted it to IR and refinished it last month. Left picture is the 2010 paint, right picture is the latest.

RE: Barrel Mounted Emitter Question
Here's my answer to my question. This was a "nice to have" for my HL KT which was not condusive to having an emiiter in the mantlet which can elevate, so the perminant emitter is fixed horizontally in the front of the turret. This is OK for most of our club events, however, when I convert my Jadgpanther to IR, I will need a barrel mount. I like to display my tanks without the emitter and receiver, so removable gear is what I wanted. Seemed like a good dry run for the JP to do something up for the KT. One of our club members suggested that blue sticky stuff, I was skeptical at first, howwever............................

RE: Hen long, asiatam and taigen
Karen I think if you were to sell them, it would have to be with a disclaimer that they really are better suited to hobists, for sure. The avervagenew "off the street" purchaser will likely have problems, but there again, I don't think that those purchasers would be up to assembling a Tamyia kit, either I know it is tough because you want top offer a product buty don't want the buyer to have problems, which often become your problems.

RE: Hen long, asiatam and taigen
ORIGINAL: girltankette However, I am not completely sold because of the problems I encountered when I stocked the Mato tanks several years ago.
They can have their problems. They are just a fragile plastic toy, if I think back to my childhood in the early 1960's, the Currie brothers would have had them runined in the first hour, guarantied. I have bought 8 of them since I got into the hobby in July 2010. All of mine have functioned properly in their original form when delivered, but I have used five of them (and soon it will be 6) as a base to install SLU's and upgraded motors/gearboxes, as well as refinish them. All of these, understandably work quite well. The first tank of the 8 I have bought was an HL Panther G and while it worked well, it suffered from heavy-handed assembly, every post inside the hull that accepts a screw was cracked or shattered, see: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11182750/tm.htm The other 7 were OK in this regard. I took the rebuild of the Panther on as a challenge, I doubt casual users would have done this (most normal people would have junked it), bit I did finish it, as can be seen in the pictures. As a hobbist in Canada, they have offered and ecconomical and accessible way to get into the hobby, since Tamiyia 1/16 scale is absent or if found, very costly in retail outlets (the only other option is to buy them online from foriegn sources), Mato is here, in the country. Most of our club members run modified HL's, for the same reasons I do.

RE: stumbled on some news from heng long
ORIGINAL: Panther F I won't get excited until I see a release date and a price. [:D] ~ Jeff
True, I will be surprised to see them soon, pleasantly surprised, we will have to wait and see. As far as price goes, I am concerned about the "premium" label, are we going to pay a lot more for that, since these are likely features I don't need because I wind up dissmantling them and replacing the gearboxes, electronics and paint. I would rather be able to just buy the basic shell with suspension and tracks and add my own stuff, but that is not likely to happen, I think.

HL Broken Screw "Post" Repair
This may be of interest to some of you. When I refinished my Panther, recently, I had forgotten the internal damage done at HL when it was assembled. Appaernently, they used a 3/8" impact gun on it, set for about 100 ft pounds Almost every post was cracked or broken. A more sensible person would have junked it but not me As a former archer, I was aware of the large variety of Easton aluminum arrow shafting; high strength, precision made, in an endless variety of outer diameters and wall thicknesses. 1.) Find a shaft that goes over the broken post. 2.) Measure the height of the original post, don't lose it, because you will make the new one up tp match the height so the parts fit. 3.) Cut the post back 4.) Cut the outer tube to fit the height but leave it a bit low, glue it in place. 5.) Make the inner tube up to fit the original height of the post, glue it in place 6.) File the inner tube with JB Weld, when the JB Weld sets, pilot drill it and install the screw, it will cut re-useable threads in the JB Weld.

RE: Panther Camo Question
ORIGINAL: DaveBcool Very nice airbrush work, and brave too. All those little free hand swirls must have been nerve racking.
Thanks, I was intimidated at first and had a second choice, "contingency" pattern if I couldn't carry it off. I only started into r/c tanks and airbrushing 2 years ago. That was done with a Pasche single action airbrush. I used the smallest nozzle assembly, cut the air to about 12 psi and held the brush about 1/8 inch from the tank. I did test it out and practiced a bit, first. It was easier and went faster than I thought it would.
