RE: What's the Difference in these Airtronics Tx?
If hold up and wait for Hobby People to put them on sale, which they do a lot, they will be for only 199.99. Sometimes even 179.99

Yes, the Gimbals are the joysticks. That Crawler radio is for driving RC Crawler Trucks. You want the one that is for flying at the link I posted.

RE: DX8 Question
I don’t know a lot about Spektrum, but I fly Airtronics and haven’t had any problems with it ever. I fly with an SD-10G and it is a great radio. A lot of people in my club fly Airtronics, too. If you do decide to make a switch in your radio system, I would recommend the Airtronics line. RE: Good 2nd Low Wing?
I fly a VQ Models Fly Baby and is is a great easy to fly plane. This was my 2nd plane and it is super easy to fly. I put a 4130/04 motor in it and it flys like a 40 size sport plane. Low wing and good looking. It is the perfect 2nd plane. http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/vq-glb-fly-baby-50-size-arf-airplane-63-span-ep-gp.html

RE: What's the Difference in these Airtronics Tx?
You want the Regular RDS8000, not the Crawler version. With the crawler version the gimbals auto center. You can technically use it for flying but it is much easier with the regular version. This is a great easy to use radio. All of the Airtronics radios are great, really. Me and my dad use an SD-10G and my brother and grandfather use the RDS8000. http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/radios-servos/radios/2-4-ghz-aircraft-radios/airtronics-rds8000-8-ch-2-4g-radio-mode2-w-1-tx-1-rx-only.html let me know if you have any other questions about Airtroncis Radios.

RE: Deals on Transmitter/Receiver
If you want a great 6-channel radio, the Airtronics SD-6G is $199.99 and comes with a receiver. I fly Airtronics and I feel their radios are easy to use and super reliable. Plus, Airtronics has a toll free 800 number for set up and programming advice from an AMA Hall of Famer. Check it out here. http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/airtronics-sd-6g-2-4g-6-ch-computer-radio-w-rx600.html

RE: Reciever Questions
ORIGINAL: mattchewn1 Ok, I currently use a Spektrum DX 18 for my planes and a DX8 for my Heli's. So here are my questions; Is the only thing u consider other than price the loss of your airplane or heli? What happens if your 15$ rx locks you out and your plane/heli crashes into someone's property, or heaven forbid, even worse, into someone? I do make sure to spend the money on genuine spektrum or JR rx's for every plane or heli. To me it is not worth the risk no matter the savings. I have been using Spektrum since the beginning and (knock on wood ) have not lost anything I can blame on radio/Rx failure.
Safety is the number 1 priority and should be in everyones book. Buying good reliable receivers is the best way to go just for the safety of the others around you. I always recommend Airtronics, but if you arent going to get that, please please get one of the other good brands. Especially if you are flying around me. P.S. Please always range test your receivers, especially in a new radio

RE: Getting back into RC. Electric ARF recommendations?
Hobby People has recently started selling FlyFly Hobby aircraft and their fiberglass fuselage ARF’s are really great looking. FlyFly Yak-54 ARF seems like it would suit your standards perfectly. With a 54 inch wingspan and great prices on the Yak-54, Airtronics servos, FlyFly motor and ESC, and HP Batteries, you will meet your price point easily. Here is the Yak-54: http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/yak-54-fiberglass-fuselage.html If you need a new radio, too, Hobby People sells Airtronics Radio systems. An SD-6G would do well for what you will be doing with this plane. A great quality computer radio that is super reliable. Plus if you buy the radio it comes with a 2.4G 6CH receiver. And if you need any help with programming or setting up your radio Airtronics has a toll free 800 number for advice from an AMA Hall of Famer who is a product expert and always happy to help. http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/airtronics-sd-6g-2-4g-6-ch-computer-radio-w-rx600.html

RE: Reciever Questions
Airtronics receivers are high quality. I always recommend that hobbyists don’t cheap out on important equipment such as their receiver and radio. In my experience Airtronics receivers and radios are super reliable. I don’t fly anything other than Airtronics. If you are interested in Airtronics receivers here is the link for them on Hobby People’s website. http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/radios-servos/receivers/receivers-for-rc-aircraft.html?manufacturer=39

RE: Good Starter Plane
A good little trainer plane is the Hobbico J-3 Cub RTF. Great trainer in a little package for a good price. Hobby People sells one for a pretty good deal. Small, but not too small. Lots of people have learned to fly on a J-3 Cub. http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/rc-planes/airplanes/trainer-planes/hobbico-j-3-cub-2-4-ghz-rtf-airplane.html

Hobby People sells the Spy Hawk FPV RTF plane. It’s a 4 channel aircraft and comes with a 2.4G radio with 3.5” LCD color screen right on it. Great plane that has a huge fun factor and is easy to use. http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/rc-planes/airplanes/fpv-first-person-view/fpv-spy-hawk-basic.html

RE: Good Starter Plane
Landing in the grass doesn’t take a lot of training which is good when you are a beginner. But you still have to keep the wings level and go the right speed so the plane doesn’t end up 50 yards from you. It is a great first step in learning to fly.

At the end of the video he says that he is going to make some modifications to the airplane. I bet he had trouble landing the plane and was going to change what he put in for power.

RE: VQ Models Fly baby
Thank you and yes I am starting to get into building. I have a Beginners glider kit that I’m going to build first to practice, then I have an Elder 40 kit to build for fun, and then I have an old A-1 Skyraider kit I’ll build for scale competition. Hopefully in the not so distant future I will build a scratch built plane.

VQ Models Fly baby
I started getting interested in modeling not too long ago and decided after some research that my first plane would be the VQ Models Fly Baby ARF from Hobby People. I got the ARF and straight out of the box I thought this plane looked really cool. With the help of my father and trying to do most of the work myself I got the plane built in only a few weeks. I put a 4130/04 electric motor in it, a Castle Phoenix Ice 100 ESC, all Airtronics servos, Airtronics 10-Channel Receiver, and I use my father’s Airtronics SD-10G. The first few times going to the flying field my father took off for me, then I would fly for a while and then my father would land for me. This Fly Baby is so easy to fly. Almost impossible to stall and will fly in high winds with no problem. After a bunch of flight time, I recently solo’d my first flight! The flight went really well and I landed with no problems. I also added a bunch of scale items to the plane such as flying wires, painted wheel pants, exhaust tubes, oil cooler, working bomb and flashing guns (I found a real Fly Baby with working bomb and fake guns, PDF file attached is a pic of the real one). I won 3rd place at the RCX Battle of the Builders presented and run by Scale Squadron of So Cal in the ARF division. All in all the VQ Models Fly Baby is an easy to fly, beautiful scale airplane!

RE: Good Starter Plane
YT, I would suggest getting a small powered glider. Learning to fly on a powered glider will make you a better pilot in the long run. Gliders force you to learn about how wind affects your flight and using the air to your advantage, but because it is still powered if you get into trouble you can get out of pretty easily. My suggestion is the Hobby People Superfly X RTF Glider Here is the link: http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/hobby-people-superfly-x-rtf-sport-brushed-3-ch-27mhz-radio.html It is a great starter plane because its a glider, it is pretty durable and you can fly around at a good sized park. Plus if you do crash it or break it you can get all of the replacement parts for it. http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/catalogsearch/result/index/?q=superfly+x+parts&x=0&y=0&order=price&dir=desc&manufacturer=219&cat=3002

Model Airplane News has a good video of it flying at Norton Air Field in California. Beautiful airplane
