RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH
killing me! why do i have to be so busy this time of year? I'm down for late september, but am working non stop until then :( damn, you're making me want to say F the MGT, i just wanna take my jeep back there, and see if i can get it stuck lol (nothing has gotten it stuck so far, even a snow drift taller than me during the blizzard last year) :D

haha - in that pic, if you take a red line down the centert of the picture, that would be the path i'd choose for the MGT lol

RE: NEW YORK CITY BASH
congrats on the baby!!! MGT hasn't run in about a year - i've used my lipo cars a bit, but the mgt is still in it's bag :P Did get a nice mini mgt last year, ran it a little to test it out - but haven't given it a good bashing yet.

RE: my mgt8.o
deja vu :) yep run at fbf, and any parks projects i see (gravel pits galore) - this year's been tough though - too busy - ran my lipo car a little bit but haven't even turned on my nitros this year.

RE: engine swap
I'll dig up the info i had, but i had my 8.0 mill ported/polished. While it's not turning 25k rpm's like some motors out there, its definitely pulling higher revs as a result.

RE: grave digger MGT8.0/S50
should look into the autostart systems from hpi - dunno if one would scale to the MGT, but wireless starting of a nitro rig is awesome.. oddly enough i have a "lesser" brand - redcat, which includes remote start. it works 85% of the time lol. i like the way you did your digger body - what did you use for the rear mount posts?

haven't gotten *any* of my rc's out this year :( in the middle of home renovations (still! lol) and now we're entering my busy season. Still - i'd like to get out there a bit with my RC's... I'll see how upcoming weekends shape up.

RE: Heli fuel in the MGT 8?
It works. you'll have to retune all 3 needles however, or it'll like to stall. temps are fine - it's a hotter running engine anyways. i routinely see temps that would melt a smaller traxxas 3.3 for instance. I haven't used heli fuel, but have used high oil content fuels (synth oil) with no ill effects. wasn't as "punchy" since the oil displaces methanol, but ran more predictably once tuned. I would not use a higher percentage of nitro + a high percentage of oil... displaces too much methanol... nitro is what creates the flashpoint for ignition, but methanol is what sustains the explosion. too low and it won't ignite, and too high and it will fizzle and stumble after ignition. Run a hot plug, btw with heavy oils...

RE: mgt 8.0/s50 dual tank conversion
Yes, and I love it. I used a 2nd stock MGT tank, but you can use anything that fits. I had to mount mine in the opposite facing direction from the stock position, to make it fit, and drill a few small holes to mount it. I've run the fuel lines both possible ways: ie: tee'd off before and after, so it sips fuel from both tanks at once, or in series, where the outlet of one tank goes to the inlet of the 2nd, and from there to the carb. I found the latter to be a more stable setup - wouldn't get any hiccups that way or tuning issues... but your experience may differ. I've found equal people that hate either setup lol, so experiment with what works best. if you have any questions just ask.

RE: engine swap
different pipe - need the 8'0's header and exhaust but honestly, why would you swap out an mgt 8.0 engine into a savage? I love it, don't get me wrong... and ported, these motors can be amazing... but the savage has so many established swaps out there, including several LRP options that'll embarass the stock 8.0... just wondering why you would bother. if it's just something you have around - go for it. you can even make the exhaust work if you're willing to cut it up and use a high temp flex hose

RE: Redcat any good for light bashers?
i'll be honest, - i found them to be absolute crap out of the box... i was using strictly 1/8 scale redcats, so i can't comment on the others. With that said however, i'll also happily admit i now own 3 redcats. If yours doesn't have aluminum c hubs and spring caps, and the updated servo saver design - you'll be very frustrated. Redcat was great about replacing the problem items on my first truck once they figured out the issues. The only issue i have left is the spur gear. my solution: stopped using a redcat one - haven't had problems since (found a similar sized/tooth count steel one to replace it with) if the redcat you're looking for has had those issues fixed (chubs, spring caps, and servo saver) or has the updated designs already installed - then you'll be good for light to medium bashing. I'm partial to the backdraft and aftershock 8e's. I don't bring them heavy bashing though - i have a an MGT for that.

RE: mgt 8.0 s50 engine breakin
Be careful with the taller bodies like the grave digger - this motor loves to overheat if you don't have good ventilation.

RE: mgt 8.0 s50 engine breakin
I let mine idle through 1 tank (about 15 minutes lol) and then let it cool. I then refilled, had to tune the low speed needle a bit, and drove it at low throttle for a while. then cool. 3rd tank i drove it at medium throttle. you'll need to re-tune it throughout this process. i started nailing the throttle by the 4th tank. i noticed my break in took about 12 tanks total lol. It was ready to drive on the 4th tank, but the tune kept changing a bit and stabilized around tank 12. I also noticed it getting even more wheelie happy all the way through the 12th tank, where it's seemed to stay ever since.

RE: Can I run 3 cell lipos on my Aftershock 8E
Slight correction.... motor will handle 6s, wth a fan/HS on it... i've been running mine for over 30 hours of use at this point (includes bashing and racing - so it's seen the gamut) - no indications of wear or problems. temps are just fine (with a fan and heatsink, obviously) ESC won't be happy with 6s, except for a short period of time before you let the smoke out.. definitely upgrade to the ezrun 150, if you want to run 6s LiPo however - asking about LiFe changes it a bit... on the low end - theyre sitting at about 18v, and 2x 3s LiFe won't go above 20V. Short answer - you may get away with it for the ESC, too. Be prepared to buy a new one however. Either way - 6s really transforms the aftershock. Buy extra diffs, and shim them right.

RE: Mini MGT list of upgrade thread
This is great man. good start on resources - hopefully ppl will add to it. The main problem is the mmgt gets zero respect on this forum. Some of these clowns are so busy comparing engine sizes that they don't realize the mmgt is an amazing truck by itself, and so completely different in handling,. weight, and drivability characteristics from it's bigger brothers, that their arguments aren't valid. Typical that most of the detractors don't even own one to base their opinions on... but hey - every forum has one (or three) windbag to ruin it for the rest. For bodies - the rock-crawler version of the halo warthog body looks pretty good on the truck - albeit a bit small (but not as silly as sitting it on a full size MGT) I wish i could still find the XL version of it - its a proline helios body - now discontinued, but you can find NOS (new old stock) still on a few online shops. The XL version, for a savage is absolutely nowhere to be found, and i'd pay damn good money for one so keep your eyes out lol. this link is for reference only - it's out of stock, obviously. http://www.infernosonly.com/Pro_Line_Helios_Body_for_Monster_Trucks_p/pro327600.htm re: integy stuff - its kinda hit or miss with them.for me its always been the fit.. its poor lol... the durability wasn't ever an issue once i got it to fit (whatever pieces i've used) - with that said, i've never used them on the 8.0, but have used them on other vehicles. for the prices you're showing us in that link - i'd buy stuff for the 3.0 in a heart beat.
