RE: lipo mah
Another possibility is the battery might not be able to deliver the max current during wide open throttle. What are the C ratings of each battery?.....

I can answer if anyone gets an hour out of lipos....C130 does on their sailplane!

RE: LiPo performance
Great. What have you read about charge rates, storage, discharge voltage and discharge rates? Read the website hangtime hobbies. Lipos can be dangerous.

RE: Nimh continuous charging?
I would have to use my smart charger because wall wart ones are 50 or 250mah. If you don't have any wall wart charger you have little but to use your smart charger or nothing?'

RE: LiPo performance
The performance should be pretty stable then dramatic fall. You can permenantly damage a lipo if discharge too low. We would need to know how many amps you are drawing to say the run time. Lipos can be volatile- have you read enough to know that you should look after them or else they will eventually burn your house down!!!..

RE: LiPo performance
Depends on what the one hour usage is. The voltage does remain stable during use before dramatically dropping off however during the stable part the voltage is dropping slightly.

Hot might be damaged. Can you take a volt reading? If getting in to electric you should really invest in a volt meter and power meter....

RE: ProBoat Miss Geico 24 RTR - 1st Run
Sometimes "smart" chargers are too clever. Perhaps the peak detection is too sensitive and detecting a false peak and stops charging. Either change the peak detection or charge on a dumb charger until warm. All the best

I have no experience with this but I always buy things online using a credit card. Sometimes I use PayPal linked to a credit card. That way if anything bad goes wrong the credit card company will refund you. Did you pay with credit card or PayPal?!......

RE: Designing a bank (RX) battery pack charger/maintainer
Eric- I have three life packs for 4 planes. You can charge them at high C and the self discharge is close to O over 4months. Even after a year 10mibs of fast charge should do it- less time than it would take to pack the car etc?....

RE: Designing a bank (RX) battery pack charger/maintainer
Just switch to using Life chemistry?!!!! V low discharge rate and can be topped off very quickly with higher charge rates!

RE: keeping lipos in planes in garage?
I'm guessing sod is state of discharge. The discharge curve is not linear meaning that if voltage reduces by 10% capacity of 10% has not been used. Somantics. I store/charge lipos like gambling- only bet what you can afford to lose and manage risks. I therefore charge and store in a fire proof container (old cooker) and that is in the shed. Can't really afford to lose the shed but compared to the house I can!

RE: ESC general question
That lipo should be good. Do you know what prop that Motor requires? I think, but I could be wrong, that to get at the stated 2000w of power using a 290kv motor using a five cell you are going to need quite a large diameter prop, maybe even a relatively expensive 4 blader?

RE: ESC general question
Keep the battery to esc short. From ESC to motor should be the long wires. If it's a glow conversion you will already have Rx battery in situ. If it's in a small space, presumably sealed, it might be worth placing the ESC on a heat conductive bed (?copper sheet) with the copper sheet running through the hull to the exterior to help increase heat disipation. All the best

RE: ESC general question
My understanding is over sizing is heavier and more expensive. Larger (4cell lipo plus) lipos generally don't have a BEC so on top of weight another battery is necessaey. On the plus it should run cooler and tolerate longer wires from battery to esc as the relatively larger capacitors can smooth voltage spikes. I am prepared to be wrong so don't me harsh on me if I'm wrong!!

RE: Dusting Off The Cobwebs ....
Not sure if this is the best advice, nobs/hangtime hobbies website is very good, anyhow I would; Lipos; Assuming you stored them at storage voltage I would simply charge at 1C. When you start the charge look to see if the cells are well balanced just to see how storage has effected them. If you want to be really cautious you could cycel them once? Nimh; Check their voltage- cycle them once or twice. If mah is less than 80% of stated capacity bin them. I am sure more will have something to say.....

RE: bad idea???
I think it would be fine- just make sure the cg is the same. You could try with 60z less fuel in the tank unless that would make it empty?!

RE: Where is the Best Lipo Charger Thread?
You will need 20amps and 250watts of charger. There are plenty of 250watts chargers, cheap enough. The expense will be 20amps and a power supply. Cellpro and icharger and the brands. Hobbyking have budget versions. All the best

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think
Would up elevons at take off reduce the high pressure build up under the wings caused by ground effect (water effecti n this case) and there for decrease lift? I would be interested to hear the effect of decoupling the elevator and ailerons for take off has. Water handling might suffer but if you get up on step quicker it might be acceptable?!

RE: Northstar mods - Tell me what you think
Good thinking Lionel- elevons at take off would limit the cushining of ground effect (or water effect).

RE: help with a crashed battery
The starter is not critical regarding keeping something in the air. The danger is burning your house and family down etc. Store and charge it outside. Keeping a well kept lipo next to any fuel (nitro let alone wood etc) is dangerous e. Also balance charge it outside. Balance it because if a cell is bad and you charge as a 6cell it may over charge and go pop. Do not keep this battery inside, even/especially a shed unless you have it in an old oven or concrete lined bunker etc. Alternatively charge it up, get your camera ready short it and lost the video!!!
