RE: Ultra Flash ground handling
I had the same problem with my regular Flash with stock Intairco wheels. Ground handling was like being on ice and expo, toe, etc. didn't help. A gyro on steering did the trick though! Never had a problem since! Highly recommend it.

Guys, I think I have the definitive answer! I simply asked my wife because she's known for her objective opinion in these matters. She told me she equally hates EDF and turbine. Now I finally understand why she doesn't fly either [:D] Now that we agree they both suck, why don't we just all move into FPV Hexacopters? [:)]

Hey Dantley, I could swear that I saw you put more flights on your E-Flite MIG15 EDF foamie last weekend than you put on your ultra bandit. Now talk yourself out of that one!?!? [:D] My perspective: EDF is great fun (as long as they're not foamies). Turbines are more great fun [:)]. Comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges. Sometimes I like one, other times the other...
ORIGINAL: CARS II Gra55hopper What you need is two units there, problem solved.
Not sure how that would work? Which of the two would I put the sequencer's retract input to? The retract sequence would need to be initiated if either the gear *or* the door system would fall below the set pressure.

Once pressure drops, it will allow the doors to open and gear to come down. KISS. [/quote

RE: Tips n tricks for lighting kit install?
Thanks FenderBean. Are you planning to use Canapoy glue, CA or something else? Will the same glue work for glueing the lens into the fuse/wing as the glue for glueing the fixture to the lens? BTW: following your F-14 and F-15 build threads. Very cool!

RE: Tips n tricks for lighting kit install?
Thanks Kevin. Must have been confusing the lighting controller with the afterburner ring controller, which can be powered from a 2-cell Lipo. Either way, I'll probably power both of them from a A123 battery. Any other takers for tips/tricks? Any pointers to installations? I think I saw a post where somebody recommended to "chisel out" the lenses with a Dremel for more brightness. Any opinions on this? Hans.

Tips n tricks for lighting kit install?
Got a details4scale lighting kit. Was looking for (pointers to) tips and tricks for installing it. E.g. on: - What's the best glue to use for the fixtures? - How to get the light fixtures into places you can't reach from the outside? - A123 or Lipo to power it? I understand the controller may get warmer when powering it from a Lipo? - Other learnings I can apply? Thanks in advance! Hans.

RE: Spektrum DX18
That particular example will not happen anymore with any of the modern 2.4 radios, I think. However, without MM all planes you own will listen to one and the Tx. At my local club someone accidentally had is EDF which was parked in the pits start accelerating at full throttle as he'd forgotten to turn the Rx off while he was starting up the turbine in one of his other planes. I think MM is a nice feature and consider it insurance just for the extremely remote [;)] case I would ever forget to follow a procedure or would ever miss to execute a check one of my extensive checklists. [:D] I'm guessing the only reason other radios do not offer it is because it's probably patented by Spektrum (?). I think this new radio announcement is another step forward and am excited about it. I hope JR will follow suit with a new version of its high-end radio. The 12X is definitely getting outdated.

RE: A123 & Life Po4's
JR has a little voltage regulator you could consider for cheaper servs which may not like the higher A123 Voltage. I wouldn't use this on critical high amp-draw servos (aileron, elevator, rudder) but in my opinion it's fine for servos operating sequencers and servos driving air valves. See: http://www.jrradios.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRPVR5203 I've been using A123s on JR servos like the 8611, 8411, 9411 and 3421 and have never had a problem. Not sure about cheaper Hitec or other servos though. I'm using the JR 1222 Rx to handle the current. -Hans
ORIGINAL: ron Sweeney hi Hans, my f22 is tucked away in a spare bedroom un-flown. Re main gear, I will check for linkage clearance. I know that even when I had them working successfully on the bench I had to shim them when mounted in the airframe. Ron.
K. Specifically check for the clearance between the air cylinder and the mounting plate half way through the cycle. That's what caused my problems. Curious to learn whether yours have the same thing.

RE: JL F-22 Assembly, Winter 2011
ORIGINAL: ron Sweeney Hi, I am very interested in the F22 assembly. I did one last year, still unflown. I look forward to the electrification of the main gear. Be aware that unless the gear is accurately assembled and aligned in the airframe, the geometry of the retract linkage imposes quite a load on the operating mechanism. sufficient in my example to cause blow by of one of the piston seals because of the extreme pressure required. Jeff Sewell the UK rep was a great help with this. I look forward to your progress. Ron.
Ron, After installing mine, I noticed that during retraction, the air cylinder can move a few mm and midway through the retraction can come into contact with the wooden plate the gear is mounted against. Filing away a bit of the wood next to the cylinder completely solved that problem. After that, my gear seems to operate just fine, even at lower psi. Have you noticed the same on yours? It's best to try by moving the gear by hand (without air pressure) and make sure the gear doesn't come into contact with the plate midway during the cycle. -Hans.

RE: No more EDF for me!
Getting a turbine powered plane to perform well is easy. Getting a large EDF jet to fly well is hard! It's the challenge! It's the fun to see the incredible progress which battery/fan/motor technology is making. You'll see large EDF powered jets fly today which one could only dream about ~2 years ago. Think of what it'll look like ~2 years from now... I'm the first to agree large EDF is not yet at the performance levels the turbines are. It's not that attractive price-wise (that'll change over the next few years though). Flight times are still (too) short. It doesn't quite sound right. Etc, etc. I'm currently flying a Jetlegend F-22 with twin TJ100 on 12S 5000mah at 28.2lbs dry and 28.2lbs wet (these electrons don't weigh much... [:)]). It's got 2 flights on it so far. Still working to get the bugs out (motor problems), but that's part of the challenge. Does it perform like a P160 turbine powered version would? I wish! [;)] Give us EDF nuts some more time... [:D] For the record: I fly both EDF and turbine and I hate foamies (though I'm the first to admit they perform well).

RE: Horizon Hobbies Spectrum DX6I Malfunction that destroyed my aircraft
ORIGINAL: sawooten and the way I look at it is if you cannot build and distirbute a product and stand behind it when you have it malfunctions then you shouldn't be in business in the first place.....
I agree. HH should check the radio out and replace it under warranty with a new one if found defective. The planes are unfortunately your loss though. Believe me, I *do* feel very sorry for you, but if vendors would have to pay for consequential damages, they'd have to significantly raise their prices which would then drive many people out of the hobby which in its turn would drive vendors out of the business... It's commonly known that in flying a plane, you're taking a risk as a single point of component failure can result in a crash. Can you imagine a vendor having to replace a $7500 turbine jet because their $1 part (let's say a servo connector) failed?

For all we know, it could well be that the owner of the extinguisher was not nearby during the whole incident. This is not unlikely as someone smart enough to bring an extinguisher is probably also smart enough to think about the possibility to use it if there are flames around.
