RE: What parts did you use to build your CMP P-51 140? (Build thread)
man i hate that, when you have just written a big post and it disapears during a photo upload. .. anyway take two, A6TEXAN how is the mustang going? also can you tell me more about the monocote gear doors? it sounds interesting. i have still to finnish the radio install and neaten all the wiring, i have run the motor up and it has so much thrust. it wants to really pull out of my hands when i hold it verticaly, it should be fun to fly, im still very busy with work so im hoping to get her all finnished over the xmas break and do the maiden in early january if not sooner. what was your all up weight? and how soon untill you will be maidening? cheers Greg

RE: Magnum 70 Four Stroke.
when i first set mine up i had to resurface the intake manafold flange with some 600wet and dry paper used wet with some light oil on a flat surface, this was due to the 2 cap head screws being to tight and slightly warping the flange when tight on the gasket and causing a slight leak. also the gasket needed slight trimming on the inside for better gas flow. on reassembly make sure the carby oring is in good condition and will align nicely on the manafold as you tighten the 2 cap head screws. mine is currently turning 10k slightly rich on a ram 13x6 Cheers Greg

RE: Magnum 70 Four Stroke.
i have the mag 70 in an esm katana 40 and the performance is quite good, it will hover at about 50 to 60% and pull out great. i like a mas 13x6 prop or a ram 13 x 6 best, just a hair over 10k rpm, i have put a new ring in after a lot of run time and it is like new now .Cheers Greg

maybe it is because a propellor has a sharp leading edge when turned backwards and just feels like there is more compression than when turned normaly. Greg

os 61vr fsr prop recomendations?
Hi all, i have just picked up from ebay a nib os61vr, I want to put it in a bobcat52 as a pusher, can i rotate the rear carb housing to achieve reverse running so i can use a normal tractor prop , i was thinking a 11x7apc would be good but ive read in the pattern forum they like bigger props like 12x10 etc. any suggestions would be great, i will also be using a macs muffled pipe. regards greg

this thread is a bit old but it has a lot of great info, ive just bought this mustang and im very impressed with the quality of it, im leaning towards the century jet retracts and 4" wheels, i have a gear sequencer for proper door operation, i will be using a os108bx1 for power, i will be making my own inverted pitts muffler. does any one know how this motor will perform in this plane? I will post some pics as i progress with the build, Greg

RE: os 1.08fsr vs os ax120?
Thanks guys for your replies, everything i read on the 108 is very positive and there doesn't seem any negatives for the ax120 so i think i will try both, also over here in Australia my LHS still has new stocks of the os108fsr's listed http://www.rojshobbies.com/Engines.html a bit pricey tho. os 1.08fsr vs os ax120?
Im in a quandary, im tossing up between these two engines one of which will find its way into a 72" warbird at about 12lbs, everything i read about the 108 sounds positive, is there a big difference between the two of them? the 120 would be new and the 108 used but only just, i would love to hear some pros and cons. thanks Greg

RE: wing tip vortices trails
I havent heard about the tip vortices, but i did read about this type of thing a while back and i think it was in the jets forum, there was talk about the fog seen over wings during hi g manouvers it was in florida i think and it was a large heavy jet flying in very humid conditions. you could try asking over there. RE: DC/Juno F-20 Build Progress
Thats bad luck about the tendons, i strained the tendons in my wrist a few years ago and it wasnt a good experience.i wish you a speedy recovery. im just about to order the juno f20 and am following this thread now, its coming into winter over here and i need somthing to do on the weekends. how did you find the quality of the parts? and the instructions? ive only done a few scratch builds, is it a difficult build or straight forward. i like the swiss f5 scheme. I have a spare set of spring air gear and an asp52 motor and pipe that i will use, i keep reading about these jett motors but im just not sure! maybe ill see how the asp goes and then rethink the jett. regards Greg

RE: SK ENGINES
Thanks guys for the replies, but im not after a pitts style of muffler, im interested in the dimentions of the stock muffler that comes with the sk90. it looks like the lower one in the first photo, i think with a bit of experimenting it could be modified into somthing like a jett or ultra thrust muffler by adding a tube inside, like the second photo. (this photo was lifted from a post by ed moorman) regards Greg

Hi, can any one with a sk90 tell me what the muffler dimentions are? the over all length from where the through bolt nuts seat, and the diameter? im wondering if this could be modified into somthing like an ultra thrust muffler with the extra tube jb welded /glued inside? thanks Greg

Hi, im not sure about the micronox, but i have the benzomatic oxy set, the only place that i have found the carry the oxygen bottles is "total tools" in Moorabbin Melbourne, (not sure if they are in NSW). its a great set but the Oxy doesnt last long, i have rejetted the tip so the flame is about 1/4 the origional size. lasts much longer now and most hobby work is easily done. RE: 1/2a line length?
Thanks again for the replies, i could only get a MA 6x3 prop which seems to fly the plane well, we have had a very succesfull outing with my son having his first proper flights, he managed to fly a full tank of fuel a number of times on the day (he loves it) i even managed to have a go! yes i loved it to! anyway the cofg is definatly wrong and i will be trying a more rearward position this weekend. i found that level flight requires about 10deg of up elevator and the responce is very sluggish/poor. cheers Greg

RE: 1/2a line length?
an update, we did the maiden today, the conditions were not good with a stiff breeze blowing but my son would not take no for an answer, so i had a friend help with a hand launch and all went well for the maiden i did have to watch the line tention when flying into and accross the wind, my son was next and he didnt know to step back to keep the lines tight and it nosed in on the first curcuit and broke the prop[X(] he was a bit upset but realized the wind was the problem so we will try again as soon as i get a new prop. any sugestions on what size? i think it had a 6x3 is this ok? the writing has worn off. cheers Greg ps the line lenghth was right, thanks

RE: 1/2a line length?
thanks again for all the info in your replies, at the moment the balance is right on the leading edge, im not sure if it should be further back as i have covered the pane with solarfilm and this may be lighter than the manufacture had designed it to be when painted. but it is intended as a beginner plane, i will fly it this week as is and see how it performs. regards Greg
