RE: Airtronics RDS8000 Lipo
You should take it out and charge it with a good lipo compatable balance charger. I would never use the standard NiCad wall wart charger for a lipo. The voltage is wrong and it could cause damage. Aways be very cautious with lipo batteries.

RE: landing technique
ORIGINAL: jetmech05 ground speed is ground speed and air speed is air speed...the two have nothing to do with one another....look at it this way...if you bring an aircraft into the wind strong enough that the airplane comes to a stop....ground speed is zero....but airspeed is what it is to remain airborne ...now turn the airplane down wind...don't increase power and your airspeed remained the same, but ground speed increased and you see the airplane rocket across the field... last year I came out of Memphis heading for Boston in a 727 made a turn to the east and ground speed shot up to over 600 MPH..airspeed remained the same....an airplane on approach will stall due to a lack of airspeed...not ground speed
That was my point. You can't judge by ground speed. If you landing with no head wind, your ground speed needs be higher to maintain the same airspeed you would have when you land with wind.

RE: landing technique
There's lots of good advice for you here, but many beginners also forget to factor in the wind speed. Remember, you plane needs to stay above a certain AIR speed to continue flying so this means landing with little to no head wind will require a faster GROUND speed. Like someone else here said, you need to watch your plane closely when flying slow to see the cues of an impending stall situation. Don't worry about it too much. After awhile you will get the "feel" for it and it"ll become more natural.[;)]

Heavier than nylon for sure, but not a problem in my case as I still needed to add 3 oz of lead to my firewall to balance the edge.

Or you could buy a Saito engine mount. A bit pricey, but nice, aluminum, drilled and tapped. It also acts as heat sink to reduce engine temps. I had to do this to mount a 125 into my Seagull edge. good luck!

RE: New Seagull Edge 540
dmurf, Glad to hear the news! Sorry I didn't reply back before. I did not get to fly mine for a couple weeks after that photo was taken. My maiden flight was very interresting. The plane handled great and I was immediately comfortable with it. I made a touch-and-go.. no problem. Went inverted.. and engine failure. [X(] Luckily, I was near the downwind side of the runway and was able to bring her in nice and smooth. Like I'd been flying her for months.[;)] Problem was caused by having the fill and supply lines swapped. My goof.[8|] My only issue now is the 10 oz fuel tank is only good for about 8 minutes. I know the 120AX is even thirstier than my Saito, so hope your tank is bigger. I have a new 120AX too that I was originally going to use in the Seagull. Now I need find it new home. I hear they're a great engine with more power than the Saito 125 I'm using, so your edge must be a rocket!
ORIGINAL: R/C Foolish Balance point is 90mm not the 100mm stated in the manual. If you go to 90mm, I believe you could take out that lead in the nose. R/C Foolish
I think you've got this backwards. For him to move from 100 to 90 will require even more weight, not less.[;)] He'll probably need to move some equipment around. Mine's close to 95 with about 3 oz on the firewall, also using the Saito 125. Have not flown it yet though. I'll report back. Jeff

RE: Seagull Edge 540 - 68" (60-90) ARF New v2- Building
ORIGINAL: Fade2Black1 Hopefully I will be able to madien the plane this weekend and give a round about and possibly a vid regarding the 125 on this plane. The 125 is new, so the power will be substantially less that if it was fully broken in. I plan on running a 16*6, but will put 2-3 tanks through it before I put it in the air. I als plan to fly it aswith no cowl and spinner since I may need to make adjustments for the first 15+ flights.
Good luck with the maiden. I'm running the same setup so I'm anxious to see it. Mine is also a new engine with just a half gallon run through on test stand. It already idles great. I almost flew it for the 1st time last Sunday, but the throttle linkage broke at the carb prior to take off... thank God![8|] I did get to maiden the little 3DHS 40" edge in the picture. It flew great. Going to have lots of fun with it.

It's slightly smaller than this one which never was a 60 size. Mine comes up to almost 10lbs with a Saito 125 in it.

I just received one. It seems to work very well. It doesn't come with a balance board. All the balance connectors on the side are the JST type (most common). There is a balance expansion board and interface cable available as an option.

RE: New Seagull Edge 540 "68
Good thread everyone - thanks for the info. I just picked up one of these from my LHS the other day, but I have a question before I start building. Would Futaba S3151 servos work for aileron and elevator on this plane. I have 4 that came with my 9C Super and I'd like to use them if possible. This is my 1st 60 size plane, so I asked the experienced guy at the shop. He said (using 6 volts) they'd be okay for everything but rudder. He sold me a Hitec HS-645MG for that. What do you all think? Is it safe to use the 3151's anywhere on this plane? They're supposed to produce 54 oz. of torque at 6 volts. Enough??[sm=confused.gif]

I wonder how well the wing fixation works on these. I think they use some kind of rubber band arrangement. That would worry me on this type plane. [X(]

RE: Goldberg <span class=
Had my maiden flights this morning. Flew great with current set up. Flip to high rates after just a couple minutes of flying. Not touchy at all. Harriers are a bit shakey, but I think it can do better with practice. Hovers with less than half throttle. Punch out could be better, but I'm still breaking in the Saito. Great rudder authority. Landings easy. Floats right in with a bit of nose up attitude all the way to touch down. I'm very happy with the purchase. I think "Fun Plane" describes it well.[;)]

I have one of these Goldberg's too and have not flown yet. What's the concensus on the neutral aileron positions? Level, slightly up (spoileron), or slightly down? From what I've been able to gather thus far, most are saying slightly up. Mine are set so that they are nearly straight with the bottom edge of the wing. Is that up too much?? Don't matter? Jeff

RE: Goldberg <span class=
I just bought one here at a local shop in the Dallas / Ft Worth area for $99. Have not flown yet. Just completed build this morning. CG is at about 5.25". Going to go with +- 1/2 inch throws on elevator and ailerons for low rates until it's sorted out. Using a Saito 72. Weight comes in at 4lb/14ozs. This will be my first glow 3D-er, so looking for some fun with this one![:D] I know they're not the best profile choice now, but for 100 bucks, I thought what the hell. RE: OS 46 Ax engine
Tom, I'm running an OS 46AX in my Venus 40, no problems starting or running, but I do get some fuel dripping out of the carb some times prior to starting. I think this is due to the location of the fuel tank in the Venus. It sets pretty high in relation to the carb. BTW.. this is my 1st glow plane (been flying e-planes 2 yrs) and I just love the Venus![:D] Really makes me want to learn more aerobatic maneuvers. Jeff

Many use FRAPS I think. It's primarilly a utility for measuring FPS in games. Also is a video recorder and frame grabber. The free (unregistered) version will allow you to record only 30 seconds, but you can see if you like it. Reg version is $37.00. Jeff
