Very general numbers: Exhaust: 85-90° ATDC opening (170-180° duration) Transfer/Boost: 63-64° ATDC opening (126-128° duration) Crank Induction: 30-40° ABDC opening, 60-70° ATDC closing (200-220° duration) Actual values for specific engines will depend on the desired powerband, as well as the intended application (on-road vs off-road).

Roughly 10 gallons over the past 4 years. Would be more if I didn't have to pay over $40/gallon to get the stuff. I bash exclusively, as there is no organized racing in my area.
ORIGINAL: supertib opening 11 degrees earlier actually hurts power...on a Picco your usually best to leave the opening alone and concentrate on the closing............good job by the way, your tune sounds very nice indeed....
In stock form the crankshaft opened at 46°ABDC, which IMO is very conservative for this engine. I set it to open at 35°ABDC, as this number is much closer to the range of figures I've uncovered in my research. It is likely not ideal, but the engine has responded nicely to the changes.

RE: MGT vs Aftershock
The Aftershock is very similar to the original LST1, which was notoriously fragile and poorly designed, so I'd definitely avoid it. The MGT is likely a better bet, but you should probably expand your list of considerations, because there are definitely better trucks available in that price range.

RE: What would it take???
ORIGINAL: sheograth Well if you want strap a rocket too it yeah, but something controllable and throttlable would be expensive.
Hybrid rocket engines are easily throttleable simply by controlling the flow rate of the oxidizer into the combustion chamber. The setup I proposed is much more sophisticated than you assume and still fairly inexpensive, but it will require a good deal of engineering background to be built safely.

A small N2O/paraffin hybrid rocket engine could be built for well under a grand and would probably push a Baja to over 100mph if properly designed. Exactly how ambitious are you feeling?

Non-chlorinated brake cleaner works well. The stuff I use is primarily a mixture of hexane and isopropanol, and it's an excellent, fast evaporating degreaser.

I ran a Losi HT pipe for about a month this summer, and I found that it had good low end and mid range performance, but couldn't touch the 086 in the upper portion of the RPM range. It wouldn't be my first choice for performance, but it's a solid budget pipe.

Just so you guys know, you can pick up the entire assembled bulletproof diffs with outer bulkheads for $30 - $40 per unit on eBay, which is much less expensive than the conversion kit HPI offers. I recently picked up a pair for $70 shipped to Canada after my CEN diffs started to become problematic.

RE: Easiest to maintain???
If you're running a modded Picco, I don't think you'll be any happier with the power of brushless systems. You're already pushing the Savage platform to the limits of driveability and structural integrity with that engine.

RE: Cen diffs gearing?
CEN diffs were a popular modification from 2007 to 2009 when the original HPI 13/43T bevel gears were proving inadequate for handling high powered engines. They use a larger tooth profile as well as a different gear ratio (9/26T), and are much stronger than the original Savage diffs. I ran them for 2 years and only broke one pinion gear and one bearing plate. These days the HPI "

RE: Easiest to maintain???
ORIGINAL: HerrSavage Nitro is NOT more maintenance than the others...
Agreed, this is actually a pretty common misconception. A high powered brushless system will destroy parts at a far higher rate than a nitro engine, so electric owners often spend much more time wrenching than nitro guys. If anyone is considering switching to electric in order to reduce maintenance, they are in for quite a surprise.

That gearing is probably a little high if you're running XL wheels and tires. Switching to 15/49 or 15/52 should help extend the life of your clutch.

RE: Will Savage XL differentials fit on the Savage .25?
The aluminum cups and 4 spider gears have been standard parts on all Savage models since mid 2006, and are used in conjunction with the bulletproof ring/pinion gears on the XL and Flux. These diffs have come a long way since the Savage 25 days (I blew the 2 spider gear setup in my original 25 within a month of owning the truck), and there's no need to upgrade anymore.

$800 when I bought a used 1/5 scale off the owner of a local hobby shop. 2nd would be the purchase of a Savage 25 RTR, back when the value of the Canadian dollar was nothing. Walked out of the shop with the truck, glow plug heater, spare glow plugs, transmitter/receiver batteries, fuel bottle, and a gallon of fuel for $750. Ouch.
