RE: *New Bravata 30cc Gasser*
What do you mean "Too bad they don't have those floats any more..."? Their not going to produce the floats for this plane? Jim

RE: *New Bravata 30cc Gasser*
Guys, I was in Denver yesterday, so I stopped by Aeroworks to take a look at the Bravata prototype. This is a very good looking plane! Typical Aeroworks quality. Quick build construction. Wings remove/install very quickly. Good combination of strength vs. weight. They had a DLE 30 mounted on it, and it fit very well. The pitts style muffler pipes stuck out the bottom of the cowl just a little, and made a nice "scale" look. It would be very easy to make a nice cockpit for this plane, and some cockpit accessories will probably be available for it. This plane has a much nicer looking fuselage than the Rascal 110 fuse, in my opinion. I'm looking forward to getting one of these. Jim

RE: Sig Rascal 110
I have found that you get what you pay for most of the time. This holds true for almost everything in life, although there are a few exceptions. A $500 plane will be much better quality than a $300 plane. I will gladly pay the extra money for a better quality plane. It's going to fly better and last longer. Some guys would rather pay less money and get poor quality. To each his own, but don't expect a better quality product for a cheap price. You get what you pay for. Jim

I just heard from an Aeroworks tech this morning. They are still finalizing all the details and expect to have the plane on their website in the next couple of weeks, including the price. We're just going to have to wait...... Jim

This plane looks very nice. I've been wishing Aeroworks would come out with a float plane ever since I moved into a house on a lake this year. Any estimate on when it will be available? Need someone to test one out for you? :-) Jim

Some people have been in contact with Sig and have been told it's coming. There's also an ad on page 102 of the current (Dec) Model Aviation magazine which confirms a new version with flaps. Jim
ORIGINAL: Didg
ORIGINAL: Hammbone Looks like Sig has a new version of the Rascal 110 due out soon.
This is great news, where did you find this out? I had a look

RE: Sig Rascal 110
Thanks mogman, The DLE 30 is lighter, and maybe more powerful than the G26EI? I'm just wondering if the DLE 30 would fit in the cowl well. I thought maybe someone would have tried it on the Rascal and could let me know. I hope they are planing to sell the floats again, along with the new version of the Rascal 110. I moved into a house on a lake earlier this year, and I'd love to have one of these Rascal 110's on floats. I had a Rascal 40 about 15 to 20 years ago, and I could not believe how well it flew! Thanks, Jim

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
I do want to look at all my options as far as a big plane on floats goes, so I appreciate any comparisons. The price of the WM Cub is good, but price isn't my only consideration. I do think I might prefer a 1/3rd scale plane rather than a 40%er. Jim

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
ORIGINAL: airbornrc Built my own with help of a friend. We band sawed white foam to his templates. Then I put a single layer of 6oz glass cloth on with epoxy. Filled and painted them. Built and installed in two weeks. They are only 5lbs complete. Has been a blast and always draws a crowd. Last winter I stripped the covering, Put all the servos inside, added a light system and recovered it with Stits fabric. added a couple of pounds but it still floats like a glider. Mark
I'm hoping to make it a little easier than this. I might use the Balsa USA floats. If anyone knows of a better float to use, please let me know. Thanks, Jim

RE: World Models 1/3 Super Cub
ORIGINAL: glowplug50 Here is an old favorite link to some vintage float instruction. http://www.seminolerc.com/EZ-Float-Design.html This is an old article from the 80's. Chuck Cunningham was a float flying guru back then and his information still pertains. He recomends a float that is 75 to 80 % of the distance from the prop hub to the rudder line. I would recomend the 80 %. Not as pretty but much more functional. The tip of the float must project beyond the prop or you wil experience lots of bad! Anyway, it is a starting point. Just make sure to rebalance the model and keep them as light as possible. Planes with floats do not recover from spins near as well as with out them. Personal experience. Have fun
Thanks for this info. Jim

RE: Float Plane
Thanks for the replies. So far I'm thinking maybe a big Cub or Beaver. There's not a whole lot to choose from though. I'd like an ARF and I'd like the float set up to be designed into the plane. I don't want to have to figure out the installation of the floats. I'd prefer something bigger than 1/4 scale. What big Cubs or Beavers are there in ARF kits? Thanks, Jim

Float Plane
The wife and I have recently purchased a house on a lake. I'm thinking about getting a float plane. There's not a whole lot to choose from though, is there? I want a big plane....... 50cc at least, preferably 100cc. Does anyone know of a good flying, BIG float plane? I'd like to do more than just fly around in circles, take-off, and land. I'd like it to be a good flying, aerobatic plane. Anyone know of such a plane? Thanks, Jim

RE: new boomerang torus
Plus it sounds like the wings are built up, but painted (no more covering); and the fuse and wing center section are molded in one piece. Sounds like it's worth the extra money to me. I just wish I would have known it was coming out. I just recently finished building an XL, but I think I would have prefered one of these Torus's instead. Jim

RE: Boomerang XL II
I spaced mine out, and angled it forward a little. Angling it forward a little allows the wheel to still retract all the way inside the fuse. Jim

RE: This could not have happened at a worse time...
It might interest some of you to know that this R/C pilot was kicked out of our local R/C club earlier this year for repeatedly violating our club's safety rules. The rules that he consistently kept breaking were no hovering over the runway, you must stand in the designated pilot stations while flying, and no flying foamies over or near the pits area. While I believe that the fault for this incident lies with at least 3 different people (the full scale pilot, the airboss, and the R/C pilot), I was not at all surprised to find out that this R/C pilot was involved in an incident like this. RE: Li-Ion Battery Q
Don't know anything about those Li ions, but Li Ion is old technology now. You should consider using a type of battery that is much better suited for our use..... A123's. NoBS batteries ( http://www.hangtimes.com/nobsbatteries.html ) explains it very well: Q: How do A123's compare to Li-Ion and Li-Poly Rx Packs??.. I’ve been using those with pretty good results so far in my big 3D birds. * Aren’t you the lucky one! And, as far as LiPoly goes, I’m convinced that luck has a lot to do with satisfaction and success. At least more of it than I’ve got. The biggest gripe I have against LiPoly is the flame up issue.. closely followed by the dependability issue. The wafer thin plates and cell straps, fragility, vulnerability to vibration alone are enough to keep me away.. add in the need for a regulator and you’ve lost my interest entirely. With LiIon.. high impedance and short longevity and the need for that pesky voltage regulator also keeps them off my table and out of my planes. With Li-Ion, the only way to keep the impedance at a workable level was parallel systems. The weight build up, complexity and short lifesapn (plus the regulators again) leave a lot to be desired. Now we've got something better! Which finally brings us to why I like this cell so much in Giant Scale and IMAC 3D.. it’s robust ability to handle loads, it’s refusal to flame up even when abused, it’s light weight, it’s over-all longevity, it’s seamless transition into aircraft already equipped with conventional LiIon/liPoly or Nicad/NiMH systems. For the LiIon LiPoly guys.. you get to ‘lose’ the regulators, cut the costs in half and at least double or triple the longevity… and get a more dependable system. For the NiCad/NiMH guys, you’ll need a new charger and one new charge port on the plane for each pack.. that’s it. The cost of the charger (about 65 bucks) is offset in the second year.. by not having to replace the packs. Just some friendly advice. Jim

RE: Boomerang XL II
My landing wasn't perfect, but definitely wasn't that bad. It just bounced a little. I understand the concept of the pin bending before causing damage to the airframe, but the pin should not bend that easily. I talked to Todd at Dreamworks this morning, and decided to try the Robart 1/4" Axle / Steering Pin now. It should be a little harder, but still bend when needed. I've got 4 of those coming. If anyone else is using the Dreamworks trailing link landing gear, you might want to try the Robart pin. Here's a link to it: http://dreamworksrc.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1183 I should be back in the air next weekend. [:D] Jim
