RE: Tank Newbie
I'll second what Jim said about Phil Flueger at RCTankwars. He's great, I bought a PzIII from him, his after sales service is bar none, he organizes numerous IR battles here in Southern Cal for us, and we love to support him.

RE: Tank Newbie
Welcome aboard! If you do get interested in upgrading your Heng Long PzIII, there are numerous excellent options. Here's an excellent thread here where you can see many up close, illustrated with lots of photos, as a PzIII is upgraded, http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9719535/anchors_9719539/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#9719539

RE: Tamiya PZIV overhaul + Brass Schurzen
Thanks Jim and Jeff for the feedback and thoughts on the brass handle constrution. I've got sufficient 1/16" x 1/32" flat brass strip to make 30 handles and I'm going to start to crank out some handles in time for Jeff's visit for soldering. Meanwhile, my airbrush decals arrived from RCTank.de. They do a good job with their products and I'm impressed with the quality

one has computed and scaled the pin spacing from a photo, then it's very simple to put together.

RE: Tamiya PZIV overhaul + Brass Schurzen
Buckeye: Thanks for the kind comments on the paintjob. Today I’m giving it a wash and then I’ll do some minimal chips and weathering w/dust oversprays. Thanks for the tip about Airbrushler! I see him posting here all the time. Next time I need stencils, I’ll contact him DaveBcool: See the pictures below. I’m actually done w/the Modellbau styrene kit. PM me if you want it and I’ll sell it you for a v.good price, or anyone else reading this. I tried to do it from photos originally but I couldn’t figure out the mounting rail. It helped enormously to have the styrene parts to hand and to copy each in brass. Jeff! Great to hear from you! See the pics below. The key failure point will be the epoxied handles on each skirt piece. If they were soldered, I believe the skirts will prove MUCH more viable in battles. My skill level there is only for electrical/lead-based solder but I really believe it needs tin solder. YES! I’d love to take you up on soldering them. I’ll PM you to see when you’re up for it. Maybe Milo and I could take you and Amy on for a 4-person mini-battle as part of that get together….. just a thought. 1Sgt: you are SO right on the slight forwards bias on the skirts. Well spotted! They are about 5mm forwards, which to scale translates to about 2.5’. It was my mistake. I got too excited when I had all the pieces built in brass and I should have paused to better check my lateral alignment. With regard to the handles, have a look at the annotated photos below. I agree that brass handles would be great and I originally tried that but hand-bending each of 30 out of strip brass proved daunting. When I discovered how perfectly the staple gun staples fit the lateral profile (and handle width, too) I figured it was a no-brainer to go that route. Now… the question remains whether Jeff can help me solder these on to brass (I believe they are aluminum). If not, then I’m in to sticking w/my J&B epoxied versions and seeing how they hold up.. Everyone please post me any pix or comments/lessons learned on your approach to schurzen. Or did anyone try simply going, or reinforcing, the original Modellbau kit?? Thanks for reading and for all the comments.

Tamiya PZIV overhaul + Brass Schurzen
when other's saw it! In this mini-thread, I'm going to relay my efforts to overhaul the tank.... I needed a pattern. I bought the Modelbau kit from WelshDragon models back in the UK. It's made... the mounting bracket slots were already there (turn your's over and check it out..., to give them a try. That's all for now - I'm running out of steam. I'll try and post

and from the other side I'd love to hear other's stories and attempts at doing this. I've got to weather this one up more, I've only just finished the cammo pattern, and then I'll post some of it outdoors where the cammo should come into its element!

going to need new tracks and I've got some on order from Bob at ETO Armor. But he's having... that problem? It's $50 or so to replace the part, or is there a cheaper way to fix... Saturday! Harvey & Milo

RE: San Diego / Los Angeles IR Tank Battle Coming March 31
Glad you liked the cammo on my Elefant. It's my creation, fashioned after some pix from Tony Greenland's Osprey "Panzer Modelling". I was experimenting with pre-shading with the Elefant and wanted a cammo pattern that was sparse enough to let the pre-shading work well.... Harvey

Now that it's all done and the model finished, what are your final impressions of the kit? It's clearly expensive but do you think

RE: San Diego IR tank battle & Club meeting
Hello all, I'm sorry I missed this event. I only just found out about it. I live in San Diego and would have come up for it. I took my son Milo to the SCAT meeting last month for the first time and we paraded our new Tamiya Tiger I and HL repainted KV-1 around. I'll track this forum closer from now on to not miss out on the next event. p.s., I was interested to see the PZ IV Shurtzen shown and discussed earlier in this thread. I'm currently building a Tamiya PZ IV and I've decided to try and scratch build the wire mesh Shurtzens that were often on the Auf Js. Has anyone seen any commercial kits at 1/16 for wire mesh shurtzen? I've only seen an Aber kit at 1/35.
