RE: changing shock oil?
fg offer up to 10,000wt, my onroad uses 4000 and 8000 wt, also there are a greater variety of springs rates and sizes from long shocks to short available for onroad, haven't seen a big variety offered for offroad

RE: Smartech whats going on with the Thuderbolt reviews
sorry you took offence at that , wasn't entirely directed at you, but examining the internals of the buggy , yes this would draw similar comment, I was expecting more comment in the drivability and how the buggy handled jumps and general bashing any weakness or strengths and again I can't imagine everyone comming up with the same thing, even your post above states a difference to what foxy found with his Thunderbolt ,as for arogance..fine , if thats how you see it , I'm ok with that coz I dont believe in being backward in comming forward so I respect that If its made out as if I have issues I will defend that, and I'll state this for a third time now , I wasn't even going to do the review myself as for the ground test , but I was going to write it up.. at this stage unless there is a consenses at the off road club to go ahead, I will be looking at organising a 4wd racing class..I've got bigger things on my plate than a simple review or getting a buggy, I thought the offer was a bit generous to begin with and have conceded that they over quoted themselves, ..no problem for me I realise mistakes happen , my issue was poor communications , and anybody with any sense knows things can't get fixed up overnight, but I am pleased that Smartech are looking into this issue of communication, I appreciate that they have had internal problems which Chris is handling at the moment..it's going to take a little bit of time to recover what reputation was lost but as the saying goes time heals all wounds and I can see positive steps to improve the company . we are getting alot more positive responses so thats pretty good in my book. well hellya congrates on all the 4wd, nice little collection you have there, that I wasn't aware of , but I stand by what I said , I believe Smartech wanted a review of their RTR vehicle which you did post a video about ,its just hard to gauge exactly what you thoughts are if we just watch a video off it running around, maybe it was my expection of a write up, which is what I think a review is rather than a few seperate posts..I guess thats personal intrepretation and I was expecting a full write up

RE: Smartech whats going on with the Thuderbolt reviews
ORIGINAL: hellya but since some people have issues......
In case I misunderstood what you mean here, can you elaborate on this? If your reference is to me and/or gas jockey...the objective was to get this out into the forum because PM's weren't being responded to. I'm not going to sit around and wonder..I get to point and find out whats going on ..either way we wanted to know, at least Gas jockey made enquiries when he did, cause Nelsons email is now full and any more are bouncing back more people than intended were notified that they were chosen..fine, shit happens I can except that as stated in my earlier post, Gas jockey has told his son & my son is dissapointed to that no buggy will turn up, more so in my case I was going to give it to the boys at the club to review..yeah their dissapointed to ..the main focus of this thread(from my perspective) was to see the intergity of the company and again as stated earlier at this I am quite satisfied with how smartech are handling this. There seems to be a focus on getting back on track as for the excuses given about the reviews and not wanting to sound exactly like Foxy..well sorry guys this all sounds piss weak to me unless you intended to copy what foxy wrote, ..having three people at different locations come up with the same thing is highly unlikley and also considering you had differing troubles to Foxy..I just dont buy it..further more it was not suppose to be a comparision review and what other 4wd do you have to compare it with, you started modifing yours almost immediately. I was under the impression that it was to be a review of a RTR Thunderbolt, correct me if I'm wrong to close off, I wonder how or what you would say if you got chosen and then not recieved one ,do you think you might have an issue then..hmmm

RE: Smartech whats going on with the Thuderbolt reviews
Well from what I see, Smartech is trying to do alot more than previously about the lack of communication. The last few days Chris Cheng has been responding quickly to all my correspondence, not only about this but other issues I am talking to Smartech about, from the information provided to me , it seems there are internal changes being made within Smartech, so while they have sustained some damage to their reputation, it's looking like this will be sorted out and maybe things will start getting better for all concerned I dont think they will be sending a Thunderbolt so I can give it to the off road club to review , but then again I think the offer was a bit over board to begin with..a bit of a gimmick to get a good name up buy giving away a couple of freebies to guys , as I see it there was only one proper review done..and I'll leave it there. I'm not sore about the situation as even though I got an email saying one would be sent , I always look at it like that there are no guarentees in life and nothing is owed to me, even though the guys at the club are dissappointed about not doing the review the situation is what it is I raised this thread to see what Smartech had to say since pm's weren't getting answered , whats transpired over the last couple of days, it has served it's purpose ..

if you check this again you should see where I was notified as the third, not cal torque he came back saying that he didn't recieve an email whereas I did when I get my other pc back online after the XP update problem I will cut and paste your reply with date, you can then go back and see who got what who posted what comment I guess in the end it now doesn't matter, two guys got them for reviews and two guys missed out

RE: front hydr`s are in yay
I found the same issue as you raise mojave, I have the hydros on the front of my FG onroad but re-installed cables to the rear..most will say that hydros are good all round , but I use the cabled rear , because of the adjustment advantage so if I hit the brake really hard I can flick the rear around on a tight hair pin . whilst I can handle the corners fine with full hydros, I like how the back end slides into it and flicks around the corner [8D]

RE: Smartech whats going on with the Thuderbolt reviews
Hi Gas jockey, I raised this thread because I am in the same boat as you so this is for both our benefits I hope, I knew you got nominated aswell Ffirst Smartech said they would send one but charge freight only, then I got another pm saying they would charge for freight and the buggy but send a free box of spares.. like you I am waiting and waiting....I was going to take it my my club that races the Travellers and let those guys do the reviews..they would have had at least 20 opinions from various members..I staying focused on my on-road racing and getting my FG EVO8, but none the less I might have tried to take it further and develope a new class of 4wd racing if the interest was there. I have had communications with Chris from Smartech....as I have some other issues that need sorting out aswell..communication as we all know has not been so forth comming..but I can see that Chris is trying to make an effort, he will chase up the relevant department/people to addressthe issues..this, at least ,is a good sign... so now we wait some more cheers HB

I found it cheaper to go to a bike shop and buy shimano mineral brake fluid thats used in push bikes. it's much easier to see the bubbles when bleeding the brakes and I got more than 5 oz for $5.00.

Smartech whats going on with the Thuderbolt reviews
since the other thread (Question for Smartech)has been locked by Foxy, I just wanted to know from Smartech whats going on with the reviews for the Thunderbolt I know Foxy has done a review Hellya just modded the one sent to him as far as I remember Smartech announced a prototype body and some different wheels so where are we up to with the other reviews and the final outcome of the Thunderbolt?????

there are several versions available, last time I checked for an older version was $135.00..maybe not cheap(relative to what you consider cheap)..but it records more than just rpm http://www.eagletreesystems.com/Car/car.html older version (maybe this one to) uses optical tachometer...is usable on a petrol engine

RE: Smartech Thunderbolt review video...
the engine is a larger bore engine which is moderately under ported with restrictive breathing both in and out, while gains are availble to help it unwind a bit the immediate problem arises in balancing the distribution between the front and rear drive.. maybe what foxy suggested for the diffs might do the trick(a make shift viscous solution?).probably will help to an extent.. The fact that you are on a loose surface makes the performance of the engine even less attractive because if its loosing grip and neither diff is locking than the engine should be free to rev or at least alleviate the larbouring by unloading to the free wheel, at least a little...it didn't seem to this at all its almost like it peaks power(under ported for capacity)and then flat lines which I believe is indicatative of engine thats stiffled and wants to breathe **The motor issue isn't a big headache.. you can get reasonable performance from the base unit without having to go to another engine**..but I would like to get the buggy to sort that one out..comeon smartech where is it!!!! I got a couple of idea on the diff bias..but I'll save that for later[;)]

RE: Smartech Thunderbolt review video...
I hate the jingling too, that makes it sound cheap but even more so I dont know if its just me , but that engine seemed to be labouring with the 4WD..seems like it needs to be opened up to suck some air and then a good pipe to let it unwind To me it seemed to be a bit better in hellya's video when it was retuned, but then again I think hellya modified things a bit, like de stuffing the exhaust box and I dont remember if he did anything further(+ I'm to lazy at the moment to go back over that thread..I'll do that later)

one other thing , dont know what the others will say.. even though the chrome wheels look good , what about those rims you have on the truggy which you are polling for body colour..they dont seem to have the wide lip that you coloured in the last photo

RE: <Draft> Smartech Thunderbolt Review is up...
making a new wheel and with a different width is going to eat into costs..and its a bit late late unless they have something off the shelf from a pre existing model..the wheel doesnt look like a bead lock rim, they actually look molding pattern for asthetics when I look at it..hopefully I am wrong but if those rims are availble thet are good as is..although I dont mind the dress ring..if its just a colour change around the lip ..fine I might agree with foxy ..leave it off ..but definitley an improvement over the supplied wheel thus far ps I actually have to admit when I first looked, even though I saw the different style rim, it didn't register and I got hung up on the old rims with a colour to the lip.. I got to stop having vodkas when I get home from work on a monday's[8|]

now that a simple design that adds very nice touch, if it's as simple as it looks , a plastic or alloy ring, that could be bolted on( it looks like its secured with a small diameter fastner) ..you might be able to offer those in a variety of colours ..but I think that red rim plate adds a nice contrast to the body[sm=thumbup.gif] Now why didn't you guys just do this in the first place..I think you might have had more people queuing up to order one, especially with that body...and like the others have mentioned ..offer the current body as the option and use the prototype as the one that comes with the buggy one other thing you guys seem to be missing..it might help more to offer clear lexan ..most like to do their own design..I think even those that dont like painting so much ...it helps everyone individualise their own cars or is that you are making these out of polycarbonite white like the traveller..and then painting them???.. I must admit it looks more like lexan to me...surely it must be cheaper for you guys to keep them clear[;)]

ah that explains the problem better, i understood it to mean at low speed it turns ok but powering you dont have enough..now that shouldn't happen..what servo are you using for steering, what brand and whats the rating in kg's as for my pic..that charger is my chargers identicle twin, except the pic is a '70 with a hemi, mine was a '69 with blown 440 running Hilborn injection..if you make a good charger body..be prepared to make another coz I would love to buy one[;)] I was in the process of converting my Traveller to have a '34 Ford 3 window coupe body along with a dummy hemi blown engine to cover the radio box, even had plans on running a small dc motor in the dummy engine turning the pullies..to bad I got side tracked..sort of got the mold ready ..but needs finishing..I also sold my Traveller which didn't help the finishing process[:)]..even got extra wide slicks for the back..I need another buggy!!!! cheers HB

haven't had a chance to look at a baja but if it's not because of lack of servo travel and considering on road application, might have something to do with a lack of Ackerman geometry, I dont think they use this set up..haven't really seen it on to many buggies,so it might not be the servo, the only other thing if the steering still has room to steer, maybe a longer servo arm
