RE: lead acid charged like nimh?
You guys are getting way too complicated. Just make a 10 ft cable from an old extension cord, but a cigarette lighter plug on one end, and on the other end put whatever plugs you connect your 12 v. starter to your control panel with. Then on your way to and from the field, just plug the two ends in and your cars alternator will charge/top off the 12 v battery to the proper level through the control panel starter ports!!! :) Much less complicated, failsafe (your car electrical system won't over charge it), and saves buying another charger to keep up with. I gave up on gel cells long age, and got a WallyWorld garden tractor battery and just charge it this way. Works great ---- plus it is a great example of SPAD-type problem solving.

Firebird Scout??
Does anyone fly the Scout? I bought one for my son, but I can't seem to fly it. Maybe I have bad habits from flying my Fourstar 40. THe Scout takes a whole football field to do a 180!! Just seems way too weak and unresponsive. I bought a spare batery, and it flys the same on either of them. I set it up by the instructions, but it just seems hopeless.
