RE: TROY BUILT MODELS
It's a conspiracy! The big oil companies are over-charging for Diesel. What used to be a crap 'by product" of gasoline refining has turned into a huge cash cow for big oil! How in the heck do they get off charging the same price for diesel and premium high octane unleaded? So the Chinese bump the unit price to cover their rising cost of labor, then the ship charges more for the container that gets loaded on which of course burns more expensive bunker fuel. Then it gets off loaded and sent from the port (mostly on the west coast) and shipped via truck to Florida. Then a guy in California wants it, so it gets shipped back across in another truck, then it's trasnferred to a smaller truck to be delivered. So the conspiracy you ask? Simple, make it so darn expensive to get something made in China and shipped in circles that it actually makes sense to make it in the USA! Genious!!!!! [:D]

RE: Why has buying a jet in the classified become so much of a PITA??
Wow indeed...exuses are like colons...everybody's got one. Seems like there was a better way to handle it, and this seller simply chose not to. It takes big brass stones to actually try and defend your position by stating that the wrong thing to do was totally acceptable to you, and should be to everyone else. This applies if you are famous, infamous, or just a regular person. Priorities can often make people make the wrong decision, but character is what seperates the civilized from the rest of the herd. At least it reminds us that popular, respected, or famous individuals are still subject to being judged by their peers - believe me, I work in Hollyweird!

RE: How much do you pay to fly at your club?
Our club dues are $60/ year with an initial $75 field assesment. We require full AMA membership as required by our charter and lease. We pay less than $1500/year for the land, but we also have 650' of asphalt runway, 100' of concrete runway, numerous tables, porty potty and about 5 acres of land we are required to maintain due to our proximity to the local forest and wildfire prone terrain. Being in sunny So. Cal gives us more flying days than other areas, and even though we get taxed out the wazoo to live here, we have a reasonable expectation that our site won't become a strip mall very soon. Sure, there is a free place to fly about 20 miles south of us. Perhaps you've heard of the Sepulveda Basin or "the basin" for short. No AMA of any kind is required, and it's a great field to fly at, but it can also turn in the Wild Freekin West out there on some days. Our members are happy to spend $60 to have a private, controlled, civilized, and safe facility to fly our often expensive aircraft at. Hey, I just wish we had a 40 foot shaded area to go with the few trees we have to hide under!

RE: 2 Stroke V. 4 Stroke
ORIGINAL: Gray Beard
. Another question I just have to ask is what is different between tuning a YS and any other four stroke? I keep seeing people that have never owned a YS state this over and over. I really would like to know what you think is so hard about a YS and maybe I can inform you about the problem. The older YS engines were/are a balancing act between the high end and regulator that some people were never able to figure out. An inquiring mind really wants to know.
In my experience the fuel regulator is what gets most new YS owners in trouble. Since many of them are "supercharged" that fuel reg can be confusing. That being said, the newer ones seem to be set up pretty good from the factory and as long as you don't get overly fiddly with them, aren't much of a problem. I do know my .63 does NOT like to get too hot. Had it in a P-51 and it literally dropped the valve guides into the engine...twice. It will never be in a tighly cowled airframe again. But boy did it ever work awesome when it did! My fuel of choice on all my 4 bangers is Powermaster YS/Saito 20/20. Sure glad I hoarded me a supply before they went away for a while...

RE: All the hot women in this hobby ...
OK, check this...my girlfriend got all hot AND bothered when I sheepishly told her I'm the prez of my local airplane club...for RC models that is. She told me she used to go to the local field when she was younger and just sit and watch hoping that one day she could learn to fly them. That was after she came over to check out the motorcycle I was selling by the way. We're talkin 6 feet of hot Norwegian blondie with the biggest.....eyes and most luscious.....personality. I just get worried that when we go to the field to fly that she might distract somebody and cause a crash or a prop bite. Oh, and did I mention she's a builder?

RE: 2 Stroke V. 4 Stroke
Just go for it! If you can confidently tune a 2 stroke, then give a thumper a try. I've had OS and YS and tinkered with friend's Saitos and believe what people say in terms of reliability. The Saito and OS are 1,2 respectivley. The YS engines provide incredible power, but at the tradeoff of finicky tuning. Once you get one dialed though...they are knida bad to the bone! OS has a really cool vavle adjustment tool kit that works on most engines and is worth every penny. As long as you don't try and run too much nitro or get them too hot, you'll find nothing more that a quick check of clearance is all that is required for the valve train. One other thing that I don't think I read was the fact that a 4 stroke is much easier to make scale or custom exhaust systems for since they don't require an expansion chamber like a 2 stroke.

RE: E Flite AT-6 Texan Convert to GLOW!
Good call on the strut covers. I went through a few cutting wheels on the dremel hacking up a set of VQ knock-off robo struts to make them look right with the correct length and proper sag on my Great Planes T-6 ARF. They do actually move...a little, but not much better really than hard wire in terms of soaking up a lousy landing. You can place her next to the Wedell Williams in the static area at the Canyon Crosswinds Scale Fun Fly for protection if you want [;)] Probably fits right under the wing!

Dual receiver set-up Optima 9
Sorry if this has been addressed, but I was thinking of trying a fully redundant second receiver for a giant scale set up. Anybody tried it yet with any of the HItec 2.4 Rx's especially the Optima 9 2.4Ghz unit? Any tips or tricks other than what one would do with 72Mhz dual Rx's? Any problems with intermixing between Rx's causing lockouts? Thanx

RE: Getting Out Of The Hobby
The dollar is weak as hell and we don't hardly make a darn thing here anymore. The jet stuff that is made here is pricey. Now they every right to charge what they want based on the cost of having a domestic enterprise, especially when it is of higher quality most of the time. The FAA can and will do whatever they want...remember their slogan..."We're not happy until you're not happy" My opinion is that if our government can't keep foreign drug lords from literally taking over hundreds of square miles of US territory with little intervention other than posting signs to stay out, then how the heck are they going to stop a bunch of guys burning some kero in the desert? People are gonna do what they want, even if the goverment burns the whole bill of rights!

No other plane got more Rising Suns on the side that the F6F Hellcat. The very best of WWII, but not as purdy as a Corsair. I'm sure if the F4U could have joined the effort sooner it would have given the Hellcat a real run for her money. In Europe the Spit, Mustang, and later variants of the BF/ME 109 were pretty darn impressive. The other one I don't see much mention of is the B-25. The Doolittle Raid was just what the US needed to get morale and enlistment up to par.
ORIGINAL: Zor HellcatAce, Please look up the word ''modulation'' in a good dictionary. An oscillation of constant amplitude and non-varying frequency or phase is a carrier and does not transmit any intelligence. It has to be interrupted such as when transmitting Morse code or other codes or it has to be varying in amplitude or in frequency or in phase to carry

"Yes MY microwave is operating on a frequency of 2450 Mhz. See posted picture. To answer your question "what modulation is it?" I do not think it is modulated. All we have in there is a magnetron tube in an oscillating circuit tuned to this approximate frequency and spending its UHF energy in a cavity which is the area where we place the stuff to be heated. RE: 2.4 - Why Are They Failing?
The big problem with 2.4 is just that....the part of the spectrum in use. 2.4 Ghz is indeed in the part of the radio spectrum called microwaves, but is is under the FCC part 15 rules for unlicensed devies which included millions of wireless home phones, wi fi routers, garage door openers, etc. The specific rules for part 15 state that the device must accept interference from any outside source. It boils down to the fact that by using 2.4 you are playing in THE MOST CONGESTED PART OF THE SPECTRUM...PERIOD! The military has been using spread spectrum on a number of different freqs. for over 30 years...you think they rely on 2.4 for anything important? Great technology, lousy place on the band to run it. At least the ENG frequencies used by TV news are all digital now. Imagine a hot wide band analog signal stepping all over your 2.4 link! [:@]
