RE: Horizon and Warranty Policies
ORIGINAL: flycatch I recently purchased a H9 ARF from a distributor and the fuselage was warped. The company was contacted by email and they told me to contact Horizon. I did that and they said they were not responsible since I did not purchase the ARF through them. Buyer beware when dealing with vendors selling Horizon products.
Which brand and model? what's the distributor's name? Click on the dealer locator link: http://www.hangar-9.com/StoreLocator/ If your "distributor" is not on that list, then they are not a Horizon dealer and are responsible for the ARF on their own. From personal experience with Horizon, they put 200% effort into making things right, IF you bought them from an actual Horizon dealer.

You can download a free trial of Corel Draw, which has a tile print function in it if I remember correctly. Alternatively, you could save or print to a PDF at 100% scale, if they are at 1:1 scale and then poster (tile) print from Adobe Reader X. Manufacturers usually used unique color schemes, so even if the name is not legible, someone should be able to identify it. Is there a slogan ont he box or a portion of an address? Take some of the major die cut parts out and take a picture of those as well. Again, unique patterns in the die-cutting might trigger memories...

RE: Need help with RC products
First thing you need to do is take some pics of each car and have your friend write down what they are and what parts are in them, then you can research here on RCU or on eBay or other sites the typical selling price of those particular items. Keep in mind that price can vary widely depending upon condition and age. Take some time to educate yourself on what you are selling and only then list them for sale. I've seen plenty of the "I don't know anything" ads get sold for pennies on the dollar. In my experience, RC cars take a huge beating on value. It's not hard to imagine, say a top of the line Serpent 1/8 scale road car with $3k into it, but you'll never get near that back out. For the best return, you'll need to sell on eBay. Most RC forums sell well below eBay prices, even after their fees. New parts need to be sold individually, or grouped in small lots. Used parts can be grouped by car model, etc. Cars could be sold RTR with matching radio, but expect to discount it heavily to sell that way. It would also be wise to get one of your friends RC buddies over to help out with this, you should really run the cars and make sure they are 100% as described, or you're asking for problems and Paypal claims. I wish you best of luck on this, it's huge undertaking, or your friend should be willing to take a bath on them if you have one person buy the lot.

RE: P-40E Warhawk - Advice
If this is the Top Flite P-40E, then you most likely won't need to concern yourself with a pump. The tank on that model appears to be close enough to the needle valve level that it won't cause issues, check you plans to be sure. Pumped engines are less sensitive to tank location and provide a more consistent and reliable fuel flow. Monokote vs Glass is a personal preference. I prefer glass as it's much easier to do detail work on. If this is your first covering job, then Monokote will do the job nicely and takes less time and effort than glass.

RE: LHS Rant!
ORIGINAL: Lamoilleriver My obligation when it comes to spending money is to maximize its exchange to my benefit. The argument of paying more for an item because the local LHS owner is a nice guy and we want to keep him/her in business is not relavent. Maybe the LHS owner should sell his product for less because he/she wishes to see his customer have more money left over to feed their family?
That's a very short-sighted view. I'm all for saving a buck, but did you ever consider where your money goes after it's spent? If you buy from HK, it's going straight to China's economy. If you spend it at the LHS, it benefits the owner, the community around him, the distributor he buys from and the employees and community there, and then on to the manufacturer of the product (wherever they may be) and their employees, etc etc etc. The LHS is not always more expensive than the online stores, most items are now street priced so that online and the LHS have a relatively level playing field. GP/Hobbico/Tower still loves to stick it to their dealers with their coupons, but Horizon is pretty good about not messing around. FWIW, you've got it completely backwards, the customer should be taking care of his family and other obligations first. If it's the other way around, he deserves whatever happens to him.

RE: LHS Rant!
The primary goal of any business is to make a profit, pure and simple. If you stray from that focus, you won't be in business for long. Hobby shops are no different than the auto dealership or the grocery store, profit is the goal. How much of a profit and how it's made, is what makes the difference in a good shop vs a bad one. Stores have to stock what sells and to a hobby shop, that is even more imperative due to the rapidly changing technology, product mix and customer base. You have to know your customers and what they're going to buy. What was hot last month is collecting dust on your shelves today and next month it will be something else. RC Cars and BNF/PNP foamie electrics are hot now, so the owner is going to stock what sells quickly and allows them to restock and get in the newest releases. This hobby is rife with guys with the "gotta have the latest and greatest" syndrome and if you don't sell it to them while they are in the store, they'll buy it from your competitor or just go online. Like it or not, impulse buys are a large component of retail hobby sales and the reason many only allow returns for store credit. As noted above, hobby shops are not philanthropic organizations or museums. If you feel that you know the magic formula for the "perfect" hobby shop, then by all means invest your time and money into that dream. I am a builder myself, but right now, spending time with my 3 year old is far more important than carving balsa and ply. She's only going to be a child once and the wood airplane kits can wait. For now, it's ARFs, foamies and the occasional RTF bought from CL or the classifieds.

RE: help me deal with this guy!!!
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner Its odd that this thread turned into a ''ebay bashing'' thread. I had no complaints about ebay. I was just ticked about the unreasonableness of the buyer. I just needed to vent, so I could calm down and not end up sending him a message I would later regret. I dont sell anywhere near the volume that Taz does, but I feel that overall ebay does a good job. Sure, I ''wish'' the fees were less, but I understand that it cost them alot to maintain the site...and naturally ebay is there to make money as well. If you cant deal with ebay as a middleman, then dont use them. Good luck trying to sell on Clist or other local sites. You will get a fraction the views you would on ebay.
Agreed, CL is the biggest PITA to sell RC stuff on. I get all sorts of wicked lowball offers, like $75 for a U can Do 3D 60 RTF I had advertised for $250, etc. Add in the buyers not showing up as stated, the gabby callers, etc and I'd rather sell on eBay any day and gladly pay their fees. Sure, I'd "like" to pay less, but it is what it is and that's what it costs. To the OP, I'd take the high road and let this crumb fade away. I would simply let it go, maybe apologize for shipping late and let it be. Leave him positive feedback for paying on time and move on.
