RE: X series Cat
What moor you plan on running. We are now laying up our cat at 2.1kg including engine rails, transom plate and bulkhead. 1.8kg for 38" boat is a bit heavy but then again it is the first one. You will quickly see how to reduce weight. most of the weight is sitting in the resin. Now get it on the water so we can see how it runs. And don't hold back show every run no matter how it looks. I want to see if I i'm going to be your first customer. Cobus

RE: Any Gas Outboards???
Wade has made a beautiful leg but we are still to see it running on a boat at speed. My 2 cents on the inboard outboard question is what makes a F1 an F1. To me it is the fact that the thrust and turning is done with the prop where a cat (even one that looks like an F1) has thrust by prop but steering by rudder. The caudwell motor and drive system (developed in Cape Town RSA[;)]) has the motor inboard but the steering system is still by means of prop thrust. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4buTnduRJXc Cobus

RE: New F1 project building plug and moulds
Don't waste your time with carbon fiber unless you using epoxy and vacuum bagging the mold. There are no weight gains as 10oz cloth is 10oz cloth weather it is made of carbon of gold. The weight loss is in using epoxy instead of polyester resin. epoxy is lighter and you use much less per oz of cloth than polyester resin. Cobus

RE: X series Cat
160mm is tight. That is only 10mm wider than a thundercat and it turns like a pig unless you run a huge rudder like I used too. My 7.5cc F1 is 36" long and 200mm tunnel width and that is just enough. An avenger has a 225mm tunnel width. Take an avenger which turns on a dime when setup right. Avenger (44") 1118 x tunnel 225 = 4.96-1 TC31 (31") 787 x tunnel 150 = 5.25 - 1 Your cat (38") 965 x tunnel 160 = 6.03 - 1 Just some observation. Cobus

RE: X series Cat
Hi, When you say class-A in what series is this? And how light is the boat. We run the Go .28 motor in our Proboat thundercats and they are way over powered for the m-style course we run. I might have to see if I can buy a hull from you as a 38" hull sounds more like the size I need. What width is the tunnel part? Cobus

RE: Thunder Cat 31
When you remove the stuffing tube replace it like the gas guys do. Only glass inside the boat. None of the support piece between the hull and stuffing tube. This frees up the tube to be moved up and down. that said once you have the ideal setting for the boat you very seldom have to move the strut up and down. Cobus

RE: Simple Rico
Very neat build. Don't you find that the aly servo horns wear oval very quickly? Used to use them but 2 race days and they were worn and caused slop in the servo rod movement. Went back to plastic and all is fine. Like the red anodizing. Cobus

RE: Home made 6
That is the standard HOR rudder block and blade. Steve S's one was the inspiration but I did not like the wide part in the middle where the feeder holes sit so I angled the 2 water nipples at a 1.36 degree angle into it. This allowed me to still keep the stand off 12mm thick. Already working on the next one which will have the 2 inlets sitting at an angle so the silicone tubing makes less of a loop. should be finished this week. And the finish is because the whole thing is made in 7075T6. Cobus

RE: HOR AND EXPRESSCRAFT, GREAT MATCH
We've been using Johnny's parts now for about 4 years and it has improved in quality and finish. Things that bug is the stainless bolts they use are not high quality and tend to strip very easily. We replace them as we get the parts. The bolt slot on the skeg strut is cut to high and does not allow descent adjusting on some cat hulls. The stinger drive with the threaded insert has the thread cut to deep in relation to the whole drilled into it and thus it breaks on the thread. So we just machine new ones up when they break. The cowl lock o-rings are very soft and break fairly easy when stretched a bit to much but work fine with new o-rings. Always check the little grub screw holding the swivel pin for the rudder block. They are always loose and (palm on face) I have lost 2 on boats i help built and forgot to tighten. The black clamps on the tune pipes stretch from the heat. But even with all these little niggles it is still best bang for your buck parts. Yes maybe not of the high standard as some of the other suppliers but man the price and service can not be beaten.

Yip Flysky is great for the costs. I don't know how electronic inclined you are but there is some great hacks for the flysky. For one turning the LCD screen around (delicate job) gives you much clearer screen. Second is a software update that for one makes the D/R real dual rate and not just trim as it is now. Cobus

RE: 46
Use the shank part of a drill bit the size of the hole in the bushing. Cut the flutes off and make a flat where the grub screw goes. Remember to lube it or is will rust. If there is space put a short grub screw in with another behind it. Then that sucker wont come out. You need to open the beast up running such low RPM and labour with so much boat in the water you making the motor lazy. And for goodness sake get a neck strap for your transmitter. I nearly crap-ped my pants watching you nearly drop the boat at the beginning of the clip. Cobus
