RE: Lipo Charger
I really like the Multiplex charger (and I'm sure the ones labeled differently are just as good).... You is it for all your different battery type needs.

I've had bad experiences buying stuff from helihobby (they sent me the wrong stuff, not exactly pleasurable dealing with them on the phone, and they're not exactly quick to send your stuff out, and when they do they only ship via US mail).. I have ahd god experiences with www.HeliProz.com and you might want to chek out www.readyheli.com who are also great to deal with.

I agree....When a charger won't charge a Lipo, it's usually because of a low volt failsafe feature...How many cells is your Lipo and how many volts is it reading now?

RE: Blade CP PRO
my take on blades is this (speaking from experience): Get a CX if you've never flown an rc heli Get a blade CP or PRO if you allready know how to fly helis and want a toy (it's a toy compared to what flys good...ie. a trex, raptor, etc). I couldn't imagine learing with one though (or any 450 or smaller sized electrics for that matter......they're just so much more twitchy and less stable compared to a nitro 30 sized or larger heli), but If you don't mind getting nickled and dimed to death on parts it is a pretty cost effective option. I would not get a blade CP pro with it's sole purpose to fly (or learn) aerobatics and 3d...just get a trex

do a search, you'll find happy and angry people. I bought my se thru them for a great deal, and shipping took about the same as getting something UPS from the east coast to the west coast.

RE: Tail Servo
RCflyer hit the nail on the head about the gyro and distance from the main shaft....and that's always been the case since the inception of the gyro for the RC helicopter..... I'll be it may not be as important now with the advances in technology (both servo and gyro), and the differance may be negateable if you don't have the crazy skills (I sure as hell don't)... I think more concerning would be the proximity of the gyro to the motor and potential interferance. But hey it's RC, and you can do what ever works for you and floats your boat as long as you're havin fun.

RE: Tail Servo
I agree with wcc963... Ken, Just some friendly advice froma fellow modeler, You're not getting full preformance out of that nice 401 where it's mounted, and you've got good potential for glitches with your ESC mounted so close to your RX (and possibly with the gyro so close to the motor and to a much lesser extent the lipo)... Always best to get everything you can going for you in the world of RC aeronautics! SO My advice is eiter buy the little plexiglass upside down gyro mount from the guy on Heli freak or try and fab something to mount it your gyro to (It's plenty well protected all tucked under there, and much closer to the main shaft (which is better for gyro preformance)... Then mount that ESC up front where you had the gyro. FWIW

RE: power supply for LiPo charger
My PS only puts out around 11.7 volts as well.....doesn't seem to bother my charger (allthough I only have 3 cell lipos, so I can't say how it would preform on 4, but It has no problem stepping the voltage up when using the same charger to charge my 12 volt field battery (peaks at 14 volts)... If you've got an ample supply of power supplys, then you should go the route of a 30+ amp 15 volt setup (connect the +5 in serries)

I Pay Pal'd the money to them on a sunday, and had the kit by thursday in California (that's faster than getting stuff from the east coast!) The heli wasn't missing a thing and had the Align factory seal on the box. No compalint from me about them

Here's my setup before I put the deans connectors on it (just for convience).... I'd probably go back and change the pigtail leads on the positive and negative to a thicker wire if I were charging packs with more than 3 cells. The multiplex charger I've got works great and I highly reccomend it for all your different battery charging needs.

RE: power supply for LiPo charger
I went the cheap route with a computer power supply.... I had a 300W one from an old computer just collecting dust (but i'm sure you could get one from a used computer store, or a place that fixes peoples computers for $10-$20. Here's what you do to make it work (most power supplies are switched on thru the mother board so you need to do a little wire jumping work to make it fire up when you thow the switch on the back. First, cut off all the plastic connectors on it so you just have a bundle of wires (with it unpluged of course), You'll do nothing with the orange wires ( you can twist them all together and wire nut and tape them off), You also won't use the white wire, the blue wire, or the grey wire (I just sut them down short and put a piece of shrink tube on each one and pinched the end shut...but don't tie different colors together! ) Now the yellow wires are all +12 volts, the red wires are +5 volts, and the blacks are all the common negative, so you can bundle them all together and pigtail it down to one wire on both the yellows and the blacks (except leave 1 Yellow wire out of the bundle)....this will be where you hook up your charger (yellow = pos and black = neg ..... I had a few deans connectors around so I used those for the connection between the power supply and my charger, and used an additional female deans connector to make a set of wires for the field with alligator clips on the other end (If you use deans connectors use the same logic you use on your heli for what gets the male connector and what gets the female). Now group up all but one red wire and pigtail them together and wire nut and tape them off ( you only use one red wire), So now take the one yellow wire you left out of the bundle, and connect it with the purple wire, pigtail, wire nut, and tape it, and finally connect the one red wire you left out of the big bundle to the only green wire and pigtail it etc. Plug it in and it should fire up, and pat yourself on the back....you just made a 12 volt power supply, that's probably able to put out right around 14 amps with a very clean line voltage for next to nothing in price!! I learned about this little cheap power supply trick from a HAM radio guy who do this for their transmitters or whatever (I'm no HAM guy)...... What they do is buy 3 of them, and use the +5 volt wires (the red ones, which carry nearly twce the amperage as the 12 volt wires) and hook them up in a series so you get an end voltage of 15 volts, and right around 30 amps (or more!!).... Anyhow those are big bucks to buy new, but easily made at a fraction of the price! It's worked great for me! Good luck!

simply put, it won't work.... The mixing for ccpm is done in that little 4 in 1 unit and not in the TX, and even if you could use the 4 in 1 with the trex (which is impossible) it would be crap as there is no adjustibility to throtle and pitch curves (I believe the Blade CP just uses linear throtle and pitch (0 25 50 75 100)

That's not right either....maybe you got a bent TR shaft? I'd also try a different set of blades and see if the problem goes away. It deffintly sounds like yours may have come with some bent parts if it's assembled correctly.

Too many variables for a company to publish a number on how much a model could lift.... But lot's of guys on here put cameras in their trex's....I bet it could lift a fair amount though! If it where me I'd do a little test...find out how much the stuff you want to buy weighs and make yourself a little lead payload and see how it flys.... Just remember to make sure you get it all balanced right!

like mentioned, the worst thing about large electrics (once you bigger than the TREX 450 size range is that the batteries get pretty expensive.... My vote would be for the trex 600 as well if you want a big electric (provided Align makes it as well as they made the 450, which I'm sure they will)....

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear
Howdy all! I don't think I've been to this thread in almost a year... Still haven't flown my Bear after fixing the design flaws (retract mounts and the horizontal stab).... SO It's been since nearly 2004 since I flew my RB (i think I got 4 sucessful flights before the retracts riped out....but thankfully Ace sent me all the parts that got messed up.....even though it took quite a bit of bitchin on my part)... Anyhow I just had to respond to the guy who made the videos, since mine was similarly powered (I had a YS 140 in it back when I flew it the first 4 times, but have since flip floped the 140 with a 180 I had in my Funtana....mostly because I wanted the presurised fuel system for the funtana, and the reliability of the 180 in the RB).....anyhow, I bet the reason your Bear was feeling sluggish in the power department was because you where overheating....There's really not that much air intake for cooling (with the big stock spinner), and what air that does go in, doesn't really even get to flow over the head where most the heat is....So the solution is run a smaller spinner and a 2-bladed prop when you fly it (so you get better prop efficency = better preformance) and save the 3 blade and big spinner for when you want to look at it (the real deal has a 4 blade prop now anyways if you really wanted to get a little picky), or try and devise some kind of louvers on the inside of the cowl to deflect the air that comes in on the opposite side the engine is mounted (the top) so it blows down on the engine (if that makes any sense)m and finally make sure you have an adequate size cut-out in the bottom/rear of the cowl to exhaust that hot air (I think the general rule of thumb is the outlet should be 3x the size of the inlet)... This is deffinatly an issue I've been pondering and wanting to deal with before i re-maiden flight my bear.... Even though I really don't like sacrificing the scale appearnce, I'll probably end up going with the 2 bladed prop, smaller spinner solution, at least so overheating the enigine won't be an issue when I throw this heavy beast back into the air.
